I'm just obsessed with this show but none of my friends are into it so I can't talk about it with them. I've watched the entire series like 4 times over. Ha ha. If there are any other GG enthusiasts let's talk!

I'm watching it right now! I hate almost everyone in it (though Paris and Emily are actually pretty admirable and, as someone points out upthread, Mrs Kim really shows a relatable side as well) but I often rewatch it because somehow I find it comforting. Except the revival.

ranoutofquinoaandprosecco · 08/05/2020 21:25

I've watched all of them numerous times. Introduced my DD to it a couple of years ago aged 7. Bit young but I was recovering from breast cancer and we used to snuggle up in bed and watch it together. We've finally got my DH into it and watched the last of the episode today with him. We'll start on the 4 newer ones next week.

@theseboots Ah Bunheads. I miss it so much!!
Also a big GG fan obviously!

It is comforting. But I think it's the setting- the village and the seasonal rituals and how all the neighbours look out for each other and everything is close by, no-one has to commute to the horrible city every day. That's why it's comforting. I want to work in the bookshop. That would be my dream, to live in Stars Hollow and work in the bookshop.

Dozer · 08/05/2020 21:48

Would love to have coffee in Luke’s!

catlover101 · 08/05/2020 21:57

I LOVE it! It’s one of my fav go-to series when I need a bit of a pick me up. Also, being a coffee addict helps Grin

Geometricprince · 08/05/2020 22:08

I do love it and it's something that's easy to rewatch but as I've got older I've really taken against lorelai. She's such a bitch to her parents and I'm not sure she would have reacted much better if Rory had got pregnant at 16. I do love stars hollow though and there are some great characters, Lane, jess, kirk, Emily, Paris. Just not lorelai, she's a self absorbed cow.

Quarantimespringclean · 09/05/2020 05:24

There is a town in `Canada, called Niagara-on-the-Lake that is exactly like Stars Hollow. It’s small and flat and very pretty with chipmunks scampering around. When we were there they were in the middle of the annual theatre festival and it even has a Ye Olde Worlde Ice Cream Parlour. Sadly I didn’t get to meet the Canadian Kirk.

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 09/05/2020 10:23

Fun fact-the actress who played Lane was 27 when she was playing Lane at 16!!

CHARLonodn90 · 09/05/2020 21:45

Ah God, I'm on the series where Christopher reaches out to Lorelai to help with Gigi and Rory gives him what for. Harsh! It's not like he ever took the piss?! He actually want to Marry Lorelai all those years ago... and he wanted to be with her back in series 2 but Sherry got pregnant and he was just doing the right thing. I agree with other comments about Rory being portrayed as this holier than thou sweet girl, but I think this was too much. When Chris met Lorelai at the Inn and rorty was so cold to him... and then also when he showed up at Yale she was such a bitch. I know she loves her mum and she's trying to protect her but I just don't think Chris deserved that treatment.

OP posts:
TheseBootsAreMadeForStalking · 09/05/2020 22:14

Hmm, to be fair I get the impression that Christopher had been largely absent throughout the whole of Rory's life, physically, financially and emotionally, only showing up occasionally and making grand promises followed by let downs (dictionary fail being the least of it!)

So I think Rory's entitled to a) be touchy about any sign of him trying to palm off parenting to her mum again and b) really hurt about him now parenting a different little girl after essentially abandoning her. I'm not sure the latter is really explored much in the show but must be there!

LinManWellWellWell · 09/05/2020 22:27

Oh yes! #teamjess although I think he outgrows Rory so better for him...I read that Amy Sherman-Palladio always had the last 4 words of the show in mind right from the beginning- so I guess she had a kind of full circle thing in mind. Logan was always Rory’s Christopher I suppose. I’m definitely more critical of the characters now than when I first watched it when I was pregnant! Both Rory and Lorelai can behave really badly - all part of life’s rich tapestry I suppose!

Also I love the idea of living in Stars Hollow but in reality they’d probably be gun wielding Trump voters!

GlummyMcGlummerson · 09/05/2020 22:29

Love the show but HATE Lorelai and Rory. Spoiled selfish pair of children. Always falling out with each other - who doesn't speak to their 19yo DD for months in end because she wanted to drop out of college? And Lorelai was awful to her parents. I loved Emily though, she was fantastic.

GlummyMcGlummerson · 09/05/2020 22:30

I also hated Luke and really shipped Lorelai and Christopher. I didn't get the appeal with Luke at all. Unattractive, boring, stuck in the past and a bit of a misogynist

GlummyMcGlummerson · 09/05/2020 22:31

Noooo not Jess remember when he screamed at Rory because she wasn't very happy about him sexually assaulting her Hmm she had some right dickhead boyfriends didn't she

DragonflyInn · 09/05/2020 22:55

Ooh yes! GG is my happy place! I just have it on Netflix going round on repeat and watch it whenever I need some calm relaxation. Agree with pp that Emily is the best character!

NerdImmunity · 09/05/2020 23:52

I love Gilmore Girls! Used to watch it when I was younger at uni and have rewatched the entire thing multiple times over since then!

Notanalien · 10/05/2020 00:41

Love it. Teen DD and I are rewatching the series now for the 4th time although we usually skip Year In The Life as it just doesn't have the same feel, but the main series is our go-to old-friend kind of programme for when we want a bit of cosy comfort. We love Stars Hollow, and we're starting to build a 1:12 scale miniature replica Luke's Diner during lockdown.

WitchWife · 10/05/2020 12:40

I have a guilty crush on Christopher. I know he’s flaky as fuck, but I’m afraid I still would.

TheRainbowCollection · 10/05/2020 14:25

WitchWife I feel the same way about Logan. Those charming, spoilt little rich boys...

Andylion · 10/05/2020 18:01

Years ago I bought the box set. The case it came in reminded me of my Barbie case from the early 70s.

Christopher was a shit father.

Gallacia · 11/05/2020 17:45

@Dozer I agree. He's good looking though!

DragonflyInn · 11/05/2020 22:05

Notanalien loving the sound of the replica diner! Will it have Taylor’s car smashed through the front window?!

Notanalien · 13/05/2020 00:16

Ha ha depending on how it turns out, it might yet benefit from having a car go into it!
