What do you think Boris’ announcement will be on Sunday?

fourpeasinapod · 06/05/2020 21:42

So Boris is to make his lockdown review announcement on Sunday as per the three week schedule.

I’ve heard reports that he may possibly relax restrictions - possibly even starting as early as next Monday.

Does anyone think this is just the media saying that or does anyone think the rules will stay the same or perhaps be made stricter?

Sparkling yes, a trim in the garden would work, masks on..

LudaMusser · 06/05/2020 22:21

To even call our lockdown a lockdown is insulting to people like those that live in France, Spain and Italy.

In Italy they needed a permit to go out of the house for food, only surnames beginning with a certain letter could get food on the appointed day

Our "lockdown" has been an embarrassment and our death toll reflects this

And this is where I'm starting to truly hate the fact I'm a teacher (which is sad as I love my job)

I think opening schools is such a bad idea.
Children will not socially distance.
They just won't.

I really don't want to be exposed to lots of kids and their germs right now and I definitely don't want my children going back to school yet.

If you read the news from other countries where they're reporting on the UK, it's showing a much starker picture than the sanitised version our media are giving us.

We're not past the peak.
It's really not safe yet.

P1nkHeartLovesCake · 06/05/2020 22:32

I think non essential shops will be allowed to open ( we need business to make money for the economy and so people can keep jobs, instead of ending up unemployed!) & possibly be allowed to meet family outside IF you have no symptoms and you aren’t in the shielding group.

And a plan for everyone to be back to work by July as he ain’t paying your wage after that........

copycopypaste · 06/05/2020 22:35

A lot of people will struggle to get back to work without the schools reopening. But our economy needs to get going again. So I think staggered schooling, possibly shift for kids inc weekends etc. Still 5 days a week, just over a 7 day period depending on age etc.

Keep working from home if you can do so and some none essential business to open.

I think pubs, clubs, restaurants etc will remain shut. Go out twice a day obeying social distancing guidelines, no mass gatherings such as concerts etc for a fair old time yet. No none essential travel wherever possible but with some restrictions. The trouble with saying to can see close family is that some people will use that as an excuse. My Dad lives in wales, by the sea, but that's 300 miles away, with a rule such as 'close family' does that mean I can then take a road trip with my dc to spend the weekend with him? Probably not.

But that's my prediction

Foreign travel/holidays a no no

TheGinGenie · 06/05/2020 23:09

@Sparklingbrook I am enjoying the thought of compulsory picnics for all Grin

Sparklingbrook · 06/05/2020 23:12

Nooo @TheGinGenie, you can't make me! So much faff for so little reward. Plus wasps. Sad

TheGinGenie · 06/05/2020 23:13

You know, I had forgotten wasps even existed!

The uk numbers aren't improving. Not sure there's actual good reasons for relaxing.

tinytemper66 · 06/05/2020 23:18

That we are really successful and that 35000 deaths is a success.

Desperately hoping we can meet close family even if outside.

Zoey92 · 06/05/2020 23:27

I would love to be able to open my salon again.
Ive masks. Bought visors. Ive been stocking little by little for the last 4weeks.
Also bought a hand sanitizer dispenser to install within the main salon floor area.
I will be running a strict appointment only schedule when and if we get the go ahead. This is obv doable for me as i run the salon on my own single handedly.
I will only return if we get the go ahead though.

marblesgoing · 06/05/2020 23:35

After today's figures I don't think we've locked down enough to be honest.
The amount of traffic on the road shows people are out and about more and the figures this week will keep going up and up again Hmm

I work in the hair industry and I can tell you we are face to face and in very close proximity. When we are shampooing and rinsing colour we are way less than half a metre away from clients and facing each other.

It's impossible to keep the social distance rule in a small business like ours. Our staff room isn't even two metres wide.

Chairs and basins aren't two metres apart and if it's one in one out it really isn't viable.

BlackeyedSusan · 06/05/2020 23:37

Some shops open with social distancing.
Takeaways open, serve at door.

Maybe pubs open outside eating and drinking. ( Or phase 2 in three weeks)

Maybe allowed to make two household units so that single people can mix. ( We have a few single person households in our flats)

Year 6,11,13 to be allowed to school leaving activities in small groups.

Keep WFH for those that can.
Keep restaurants closed
No visiting care homes.
Still shielding the extremely vulnerable.

God knows what they are going to do about the middle group of vulnerable people.

More operations, and appointments at hospital.

Elmerrrrrrrr · 06/05/2020 23:40

Takeaways are already open

Sparklingbrook · 06/05/2020 23:41

Takeaways are already open

Yes I had a chippy tea tonight. Smile

BlackeyedSusan · 06/05/2020 23:43

Last time I went past ours it was closed.

KKSlider · 06/05/2020 23:46

I think outpatient services will resume, DS received a rescheduled appointment today for the end of this month in place of one that was cancelled at the start of lockdown.

I also think opticians services will be allowed to presume with a limited number of patients in at any one time, masks and visors for the optician (presuming they're available), and masks for patients. Dentistry possibly to resume too with masks and visors for the staff.

Socialising allowed with immediate relatives in outdoors spaces, specifically gardens if you have one available but public outdoor spaces if you do not (social distancing to be observed).

Schools to start reopening from June but I think it will be an expansion of the current allowed children rather than a free for all and because lots of people are saying they won't send their DC and children could potentially be frequently absent for 7-14 days based on current quarantine rules, attendance will be voluntary until September when it'll become compulsory again.

WFH will still be encouraged wherever possible.

The new guidelines will be suitably vague and open to interpretation so that several clarifications need to be announced over the following weeks and in the meantime people will put their own twist on them, will attempt to police their neighbours, and will complain that everyone except them is doing it wrong.

MrsCobbit · 06/05/2020 23:57

Social bubbles and garden centres as the first test

Viviennemary · 07/05/2020 00:02

From what I've read tonight. You can exercise more than once a day, sit on a park bench, go for a picnic. Wow can't wait for Monday.

BirdieFriendReturns · 07/05/2020 00:03

I’m a bit confused as to why people think numbers aren’t improving.

Okay this is just Hospital deaths in England but a clear improvement from the peak: www.england.nhs.uk/statistics/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2020/05/COVID-19-total-announced-deaths-6-May-2020.xlsx

giggly · 07/05/2020 00:05

Do people really have no idea or really don’t care that the 4 countries within the UK all have different school termsHmm
Scottish schools finish for the summer holidays on the 24th June so not a chance they’ll be back by then.
As you were little EnglandBiscuit
