What do you think Boris’ announcement will be on Sunday?

So Boris is to make his lockdown review announcement on Sunday as per the three week schedule.

I’ve heard reports that he may possibly relax restrictions - possibly even starting as early as next Monday.

Does anyone think this is just the media saying that or does anyone think the rules will stay the same or perhaps be made stricter?

Year 6,11,13 to be allowed to school leaving activities in small groups

Years 11 and 13 are finished. Pointless them coming back, unless Year 11s are coming to do transition for Year 12. We’re far more likely to have Year 10 and 12 in so they can do a catch up half term.

Mawbags · 07/05/2020 00:11

I think schools will only admit children with two working parents initially. Can’t see it being any further on than that

Diversion · 07/05/2020 00:23

He may as well have announced any lifting measures 2/3 weeks ago. The roads around here are so busy, so many businesses appear to be going back to work and so many more shops/takeaways are opening. If he announces the whole social bubble thing I will be fuming, some of us are at risk enough at work. Potentially if my colleagues and face to face clients are able to meet 10 people within their social bubble, then I will effectively be in touch with 160 people and I am not an NHS worker. I am also not a care worker, but apparently as of recently this is what I am now classed as.

I literally can’t wait for garden centres to reopen.
Will I be going there when they do - No way Jose.

HyacynthBucket · 07/05/2020 00:35

Who knows what he will do? He will probably be making it up on the back of a beermat on Sunday morning, winging it as usual. I detest the way he 'governs' .

Same @Mawbags. I think if both parents have to work outside the home then their child(ren) will be allowed to attend if necessary but any children with parents who are WFH or have a SAHP will have to remain at home unless vulnerable.

Scottish schools finish for the summer holidays on the 24th June so not a chance they’ll be back by then. As you were little England

The thread is about Boris Johnson's announcement on Sunday which is why it's been focussed upon England, the other countries in the UK have their own rules and reviews.

I wonder will we ever go back to normal as we knew it?

OP posts:
fourpeasinapod · 07/05/2020 01:03

Apparently we might be able to have picnics. I hate picnics so I hope it's not compulsory.

😂😂 enforced picnics!

I always like the idea of picnic food but it's always shut. Bugs in the blanket, nowhere to put rubbish and windy weather are almost a guarantee

ineedaholidaynow · 07/05/2020 01:05

Not for sometime @fourpeasinapod

peoplepleaser1 · 07/05/2020 01:59

A few thoughts:

If only some children go back to school it will be tough for teachers to facilitate both online and in school learning. I can see it working if selected entire years go back, but not if it's split by having two working parents, so some kids in each year are in school and some stay at home. Also many kids live win single parent households.

Will anyone actually visit non essential
Shops if they open?

Will people actually visit older parents and relatives if this is allowed? I miss mine dreadfully but they are in their seventies and I worry about increasing their risk.

Fairylillie · 07/05/2020 02:06

I think he will announce his plan to get businesses re-opening and people back to work.

Anybody thinking that they'll be able to go and visit friends and family is seriously deluded. I think the lockdown will be extended tomorrow as the current one was until May 7 and has to be reviewed tomorrow.

Sparklingbrook · 07/05/2020 03:10

Golf, tennis and angling might be allowed soon as well apparently. I don’t fancy any of them so don’t know what to try. 😬

HeechulOppa · 07/05/2020 03:15

I wonder if he’s doing this because people are starting to rebel against lockdown - so many people out and about this past week as I can see from my house - nothing like the first few weeks. So the thinking is ‘fuck it, may as well!’

Still not sure how parents will really be able to go to work if the schools aren’t fully open. And the summer holidays will absolutely not be as they are normally as how many people rely on sitters/ grandparents that can now no longer help out, and still can’t take kids many places so boredom factor won’t be much better. And if parents do go back to work they’ll probably piss employers off if they then book holiday, so may be very reluctant to do so.

And if workers are returning to work, what about the furloughed? Just yesterday I was told my furlough was being extended until end of June - obviously before any official change in stance has been announced. Will that be rescinded I wonder, or will employers use it as an opportunity to financially get back on their feet a bit more?

Fedup21 · 07/05/2020 04:08

Relaxing our lockdown when we have just hit the highest death toll in Europe, is crazy. How many new cases were there yesterday?!

Elmerrrrrrrr · 07/05/2020 06:40

Tbh ill be doing it anyway if it isn't allowed soon

Ginger1982 · 07/05/2020 07:19

It may well follow the Ireland proposal that was widely circulated. I would like some sort of 'bubble' as to who we can interest with. I want to see my mum and she wants to see us and DS. Plus, selfishly, it would really help if she was able to look after him for a bit for us. I'm not fussed about seeing anyone else right now.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 07/05/2020 07:26

I can’t wait for any sort of going back to normal. Anything will do.

Standrewsschool · 07/05/2020 07:59

I speculate that more shops will be allowed to open and schools will return after half term.

However, I don’t know if all pupils will be full time - they may have certain years on certain days, or do either mornings or afternoons, to reduce the number of kids in school, and so they can spread them out ( but a time-tabling nightmare). However, kids won’t socially distance too and from school.

However, there may be a proviso that if numbers increase, lockdown will be introduced again.

HouseOfSticks · 07/05/2020 08:01

I just can’t wait to see my mum and sister and niece. I hope we can go for walks together. Even if that’s all it is it will make such a huge difference to us.

PilatesPeach · 07/05/2020 08:01

Have to say the queuing for supermarkets is one thing but I am not queuing for non-essential shops - great that they are likely to re-open for those who want them of course. Also clothes shops, probably have to shop alone and not try anything on after queuing so might as well do it online.

My personal concern though is that the furlough & SE schemes will almost certainly start winding down but some businesses not be permitted to re-open until Autumn eg gyms for example and only then if death numbers do not start to rise. So no work & no help possibly.

Mightymurphy · 07/05/2020 08:06

giggly not all schools in Scotland finish on 24th. We don’t finish until 1st July and there has been no decision on schools and when they will go back. Some may well go back before the holidays.

TeenPlusTwenties · 07/05/2020 08:17

Pilates From reading the papers I think furloughing will be dealt with on a sector by sector basis. So if eg gyms can't re-open they will continue to have paid for furlough.

The difficulty will be where businesses are allowed to open but there is less demand or throughput has to be massively reduced. If they can't furlough but aren't getting enough trade either...

greathat · 07/05/2020 08:52

I'd prefer they prioritised getting the "none urgent" hospital appointments again over anything else

danni0509 · 07/05/2020 09:59

Exercise more than once per day and picnics on the park are what everyone here is doing anyway. Nothing new.
