What do you think Boris’ announcement will be on Sunday?

So Boris is to make his lockdown review announcement on Sunday as per the three week schedule.

I’ve heard reports that he may possibly relax restrictions - possibly even starting as early as next Monday.

Does anyone think this is just the media saying that or does anyone think the rules will stay the same or perhaps be made stricter?

@fourpeasinapod I'll join you in a lockdown snooze Grin

SpookyNoise · 08/05/2020 12:27

I think it’s not as simple as just being sacked. The unions are hard at work at the moment.

KKSlider · 08/05/2020 12:29

A study has come out of the University of East Anglia stating that the three measures with the biggest impact on reducing infection numbers are restricting mass gatherings, closing non-essential business, and closing schools. It hasn't been peer reviewed yet and the full study information isn't available yet (or wasnt last time I looked) but I'd be interested in the final findings.

I won’t be very happy if i’m permitted to go to a bloody garden centre but can’t go visit my low risk parents. I’ve had enough now.

Fedup21 · 08/05/2020 12:48

@SpookyNoise

I think you are right. This is very interesting.

All I think will be announced is that unlimited outside exercise will be permitted. I really can't see much else changing for the next few weeks.

I'm not planning on sending ds(12) back to school until September. Dd will be going in to 2nd year at Imperial so she is planning on returning to London in Sept however no announcement yet on whether it will still be online lectures only.

I think opening schools before the summer hols is a very bad idea.

LilacTree1 · 08/05/2020 12:56

Does anyone know, is it live? I assume not....

terrigrey · 08/05/2020 13:06

The government have been very pathetic.
That is why we have the highest death rate in Europe
👏
Boris only cares about himself and his legacy....well it's not looking good. The rest of the world think he is a mini Trump.

I like the look of Eire's plan for easing lockdown.

The economy will come back, but I assume Boris & his cronies will be more worried about getting Brexit done at any cost....they can bury it with Corona, blaming the shitstorm on that too.

Plus it's all our fault for dying, we're not wealthy enough, we're too fat, we're too brown etc.

fourpeasinapod · 08/05/2020 13:22

It’s just a horrific mess. They should have done more. This was all preventable

I’m not saying this to defend the government’s strategy but I do think it’s important to point out that we don’t have the highest “death rate” in Europe. We have the highest number of deaths- those two things are quite different. “Death rate” doesn’t even mean one single thing- it can mean “case fatality” as in number of people who get the virus who die, which relies heavily on finding all or most of the cases or it could mean the number of deaths per head of population. We’re second in Europe for the first one (though we know those numbers aren’t right because we’ve not done anywhere near enough testing to find all the cases) and fourth in Europe on the second measure.

As I say, this isn’t an argument for or against anything, or an attempt to minimise the number of deaths, but I do think it’s important to understand what the figures we are reading mean as much as we can. In reality we won’t know what those figures mean for at least a couple of years.

SpookyNoise · 08/05/2020 13:52

What was it Boris said about some of us losing loved ones? It was very flippant.

Then he got ill and things got serious.

Now he’s well again and I hope it doesn’t turn into a case of ‘I’m alright, Jack’.

LilacTree1 · 08/05/2020 13:57

“The rest of the world think he is a mini Trump.“

Er, no, Trump is trying to save the economy.

fourpeasinapod · 08/05/2020 13:57

I know @Spookynoise - I know he really put the frighteners on us at the beginning!

Trump is trying to get reelected.

Trump is another massive knobhead that shouldn’t be in charge of a country!

Unless your parents are under 40 and both women, they are not exactly low risk.

And you can visit them, I'm sure. Ensure distancing or personal protection. Unless they have armed guards outside.

LilacTree1 · 08/05/2020 14:26

“ Trump is trying to get reelected.”

Any port in a storm.

Mawbags · 08/05/2020 14:31

They won’t be opening schools..., wales have announced that they’re closed TIL September... it will need to be the same here

Bluntness100 · 08/05/2020 15:21

They won’t be opening schools..., wales have announced that they’re closed TIL September

And companies are opening in the next week or two

So what are all working parents of kids in primary or below going to do whe they can’t work from home. They ain’t getting furlough. That’s an employers decision that they shut down when the business is back up and running. It’s not an entitlement.

So these people will loose their jobs whilst others are found to replace them. Because the work needs doing. And with younger kids, these working parents who need to work simple can’t do it.

Mawbags · 08/05/2020 15:23

I don’t know, I’m pretty shocked that schools aren’t opening. I live on the border and there are plenty people who cross into England from wales daily

Sostenueto · 08/05/2020 15:25

He'll announce a lot of bluster, lies and plenty of spin.

Sillyscrabblegames · 08/05/2020 15:28

Piles of people out and about today and lots of traffic too. I'm in london

Sostenueto · 08/05/2020 15:30

Trump can't save the economy if half the workers are dropping dead of covid. The only thing Trump wants to save is his job! And the Americans are prattish enough to vote in the racist mysoginist devil again.

Sostenueto · 08/05/2020 15:33

In our town yesterday they opened KFC there were 300 cars queuing for it which bought the whole town to a standstill and the police had to shut it down again. Fancy queuing for hours for a piece of barely fit for human consumption chicken from Thailand for hours on end!
