Normal, inoffensive, bit cold when you first sit down, show up the cat scratches, wipe-clean I suppose. I have one in the kitchen. It sort of fades into the background, nondescript.

Surely if you like it, and it fits your room, that's all that matters?

Bluntness100 · 03/05/2020 07:50

The really dark brown shiny ones I don’t like so much, they are quite eighties and ubiquitous. The ones with the stained matt leather and the graduations in colour are much better, but there are so many choices out there, I think you could find something better,

KatherineJaneway · 03/05/2020 07:53

Sticky on legs in the summer.

ThatsWhatHeroesDo · 03/05/2020 07:54

I love mine. Soft, comfortable, wipe clean. Don't need to worry about cat scratches because I don't have a cat Smile bought it from John Lewis 7 years ago and still looks great.

Toilenstripes · 03/05/2020 07:54

Dated. Unappealing.

JonHammIsMyJamm · 03/05/2020 07:56

It depends on the shape. I have brown leather chesterfield shaped sofas and they are a classic. The big flumpy, elephant scrotum ones, not so much.

BovaryX · 03/05/2020 07:57

I think they are vile. Velvet sofas in a jewel colour, like purple or green. Or a lighter colour like stone or pale green. Brown? Never.

AWryGiraffe · 03/05/2020 08:00

I am on a neverending search for a worn in looking, comfy, non shiny looking brown leather sofa. Not found it yet. If you see any please share!

PomeloPill · 03/05/2020 08:04

I have one. It was a freebie off gumtree, the lady who gave it to me had it for about ten years. It's very comfortable and other than some scratches on the sides from her pets it has aged very well.

She was in a very well-off area so I assume this is very good quality which is why it still looks so well.

I wouldn't go cheap and shiny.

TanginaBarrons · 03/05/2020 08:04

I've just bought a blonde leather mid century sofa from ebay, nicely stained to a beautiful patina. It's very hit and miss - agree shiny dark brown not great but, for example, a pale Balzac is gorgeous. I also have a buttery soft Days Forum which is lovely.

GetUpAgain · 03/05/2020 08:06

Cold and slippy!

whiteroseredrose · 03/05/2020 08:10

Very fashionable a few years ago so probably dated now.

Very hard wearing though. Friends' leather sofa is over 20 years old and still looks fine.

HeartyGreenSalad · 03/05/2020 08:12

Dislike dark brown ones

Maybelatte · 03/05/2020 08:13

Fashionable a few years ago as a PP said, we had some but got rid about five years ago I’d say. They’re easy to clean which is good especially if you have young children but they’re cold in the winter and sticky in the summer.

fodderbeet · 03/05/2020 08:17

Easy to clean, not offensive - as in you only notice things you hate and there's nothing to hate as they're so non-descript. Get a classic shape of sofa regardless of colour/fabric and you'll be fine. None of this corner sofa big loose cushioned nonsense.

Carolduckingbaskin · 03/05/2020 08:18

We have one it’s a Matt type leather so not sticky nor cold. Tbh I’d say it’s a little boring and would love something more exciting but we have a dog so it’s easy to keep clean. Also it’s moved with us several times and matches almost any neutral decor/other furniture

poppym12 · 03/05/2020 08:20

Horrible

Lardlizard · 03/05/2020 08:22

I don’t like them either bit was interested in your views as someone bossy tried to tell me that’s what I should be getting

Wonderbag · 03/05/2020 08:22

We used to have one when the kids were small - (wipe clean)
And was glad when they were old enough to get something softer as I didn’t really like it

leafygarden · 03/05/2020 08:25

Yuck - not keen on leather sofas full stop, but brown is especially yuck to me anyway

CheriLittlebottom · 03/05/2020 08:26

The soft matt ones I like (and have!). They aren't cold and slippery or sweaty & sticky in the heat which is what I've always disliked about leather sofas. We have had them for six years and they are standing up well to kids, hoping they'll last another four or five until the youngest is more trustworthy. Good for kids and pets.

Crunchymum · 03/05/2020 08:27

Love ours. It's actually IKEA!! Who knew.

Its 13 years old and has seen a cat and 3 children (plus 3 house moves) and is still in good condition. Cost about £900. Well worth the outlay.

isabellerossignol · 03/05/2020 08:27

I don't like them either.

And I really don't like bossy boots types who try to tell me what I should have in my own home!

MairzyDoats · 03/05/2020 08:30

Meh. Dullsville. I do have a slightly battered leather armchair (from a charity shop!) which I love...

FlamingoAndJohn · 03/05/2020 08:31

Tell the bossy person to piss off.

I see the sense in them if you have small children etc but I can’t stand them.

My bossy SIL made my MIL get one. It’s far to big for the room and hugely uncomfortable.
