Mine is lovely, it's 15 years old and still comes up looking new with leather balm.

Very dated.

AWryGiraffe · 03/05/2020 14:16

Thanks @Puddlesplasher there's some lovely ones on there. Just need to wait for corona to do one and can visit the showroom! I've never sat on a chesterfield and I'm curious as to whether they are comfy or not.

DontTellThemYourNamePike · 03/05/2020 14:35

I don't like the slightly shiny, squishy dark brown ones with those pillowy arms, but we have a 2 seater in matte leather which marks very easily, yet somehow looks good. In saying that, hardly anyone sits on it because our fabric sofa is warmer and more comfortable. So we have a very nice, mostly ornamental, leather sofa!

Crinkle77 · 03/05/2020 15:05

My mum has one and it is quite comfy but it's annoying cos the cushions slide everywhere and it's impossible to have an afternoon nap with a list cushions 😂

Crinkle77 · 03/05/2020 15:06

Aarrgghh stupid autocorrect. Should say slidy cushions.

Not a huge fan of leather sofas but better with kids but we’ve got black ones not too sure about brown would depend on what shade we’re talking

I have one which is around 18 years old. It is now in the kitchen/diner and wouldn't choose one new now but it has been incredibly hard wearing and lasted more than twice as long as any other sofa I've had so good value and doesn't stain or fade which is great if you have young kids or pets.

Which bossy person op? Mil off offered to help chip in for some new sofas 1⃣ Xmas when dh was asked what he wanted.

Unfortunately, that meant Mil choosing our sofas. She helpfully sent her 40 year old married son some links to furniture village sofas and told him how robust and easy with small dc leather sofas are.

Dh hated them and I said I'd rather sit on orange crates than have those dismal depressing sofas in our house.
. The earlier pp comment made me laugh '' we have leather sofas so we don't have to shout at the children about pens, drinks etc ''

I have fabric white sofas and I never shout at the dc about pens and drinks.
Close up there are some of marks but I don't care. The over all look is far nicer. More comfy to sit on and I don't ever stress about marks... Scratches etc!

Your arse sticks to them I do not recommend unless you like leg wax's in summertime

Lardlizard · 03/05/2020 23:01

Well the same person, family member who wasn’t ask there opinion Also complained about my table n chairs, which are glass and acrylic, and said it’s looks like a bloody pop art cafe in here

You should have got a oak table and brown leather upholstered high back chairs

Wouldn’t actaully mind but we never asked this persons opinion

I don't like them personally. But I wouldn't have leather sofas full stop.

EricaNernie · 04/05/2020 07:08

I have one from Freecyle, so i love it

ChicChicChicChiclana · 04/05/2020 07:22

I really don't like leather sofas in any shape or colour. But I know from previous threads on Mumsnet that some people take umbrage at such an "offensive" opinion and it can all get very ugly. Weird.

ThatsWhatHeroesDo · 04/05/2020 10:19

It really doesn't matter what MN thinks of leather sofas. Clearly you like your decor, as you picked it, and your relative ought to wind their neck in. Shockingly, different people like different things, it's not like your relative is being forced to decorate in your style. Why are they so invested in what your house looks like anyway?

ThatsWhatHeroesDo · 04/05/2020 10:20

(But none of my body parts have ever stuck to my leather sofa, so I have to assume they vary a lot in style and quality?)
