Is there a ghost in my house?

Hi, I'm quite freaked out to be honest and, whilst I don't mind skeptics, I don't need to be told I'm being ridiculous. I'm really scared.

Bit of background:
As a teenager, I did stupid things at sleepovers with my group of friends (we did a seance o and we tried to 'communicate' with spirits). It sometimes 'worked' and sometimes there was nothing. My best friend literally horizontally floated in front our eyes when we were around her in a circle (no alcohol or drugs had been taken). We never broke it so I wonder if this is the effect.

Anyway, fast forward. There was a spot sometime after that in my room that I always 'felt' something watching me at a certain time (roughly between 2-4am). Not particularly nice but never harmed me. Now, four years later, I live with DH, 2 kids and his grandmother temporarily and three dogs. There's always been a 'spot' (next to the bottom of the stairs) that I've had that same feeling of energy at night (once in the living room too). Again, never been touched. Since the beginning of this year, I've felt it in my room. Pretty much continuously on and off, more prominent at night (this room is a lot smaller and the spot is next to the door). Anyway, up until this point, it's all 'feelings'. However, last few weeks DD (3) has been waving out of the living room door into the hallway. I asked who she was waving to and she said 'the man' (DH was in the room too). I asked where he went, she said upstairs. DH went but obviously no-one was there. I keep seeing 'it' out of the corner of my eye but definitely there (one year old keeps smiling and waving at thin air and the dogs bark at the same time he does that). Then, last night, DH was downstairs as he couldn't sleep (this is about 4am now) and came up (I was awake giving one year old milk) and he asked if I was calling his name. I said no and he was really freaked out, said it was clear as day. He even woke his nan up and she said it wasn't her. I'm really scared, I don't know what to do or what it is. Has anyone had anything similar or got any advice? I promise I'm not making it up but if you're sceptical then please just leave it, I'm scared. TIA.

My DH felt a presence in our house just after we moved in. Also heard things. He thinks it was the old man who lived here before us. He spoke to it and said who we all were and why we were there and we didn't mean him any harm. We've not heard or felt anything since. I think some people are susceptible to experiencing the paranormal and others not. My mum once came downstairs after putting me to bed as a baby and all the toys I'd been playing with were piled up in a precarious stack on top of each other. I reckon young kids can see more for some reason. Maybe you're just scared OP, maybe it's not a malignant thing.

Jada1234 · 30/04/2020 04:23

I would get a catholic priest to bless the house after lockdown and if there's still activity I would get home exorcised. Wishing you peace and happiness X

MrsJoshNavidi · 30/04/2020 12:27

I've seen 'ghost' too. It wasn't a trick of the mind

Yes it was.

I've accidentally started two threads about this, so apologies if you've seen this before.

Bit of an update possibly.

Earlier on, I came into my room and there was a black dog on the bed (we don't have a dog) and I screamed, put my head round the door to shout for DH and when I looked back it was gone. Unless I have a runaway dog in my house Confused

I promise you I'm not mad, nor making this up. I'm genuinely too scared to sleep at night. DH is insomniac (undiagnosed) and I hate it when he leaves but I can't sleep with any noise in the room so I'm dreading tonight Sad

Are you ok OP? Was it a big dog? Could you make out a breed? Not taking the P, genuinely interested. There are lots of stories about black dogs and spirits. Anything else happen? X

Judeslife · 02/05/2020 07:19

You say in your OP that you live with three dogs... but you don't have a dog in your update. Right. Hmm

HolyWells · 02/05/2020 07:20

People pointed out on the OP’s other identical thread that she says in her first post that she has three dogs, but appears to have changed her mind about this by the time of the appearance of the Phantom Black Dog.

HolyWells · 02/05/2020 07:20

Sorry, x-post, @Judeslife!

ofcourse123 · 02/05/2020 07:24

Awkward!

YewandOak · 02/05/2020 07:26

Do you have three dogs or no dogs?

ofcourse123 · 02/05/2020 07:28

Just read original post again..
OP... you're gonna have to clarify the dog thing... or do a name change....

TerrapinStation · 02/05/2020 07:29

I was going to ask the same question about the dog. Is this like the boat, no car, no horse thread I read the other day. ? Do you have 3 cats or 3 buggies?

chatterbugmegastar · 02/05/2020 07:30

Ring a priest. This would be classed as an essential visit by the church. Ask him to come and sort this out for you

And for those people saying ghosts don't exist - I have zero idea if they do or not - but ffs.... the OP is scared. Try to at least be kind and compassionate. Hmm

ALovelyBitOfSquirrel · 02/05/2020 07:31

No. Ghosts don’t exist. And shouting at the inside of your house will not help

Hmm not helpful. Oh and they do. To those that trotted out ghosts don't exist stfu, that's not helping the OP and you don't have a clue if you genuinely think that.

HolyWells · 02/05/2020 07:33

@ALovelyBitOfSquirrel, why so angry? Given that the OP doesn’t know whether she has three dogs or none, it’s not too much of a stretch to imagine her ‘paranormal activity’ and her fear may be equally fictitious?

Homestayer · 02/05/2020 07:33

Ghosts aren't real.

Your dogmatic insistence that they are is indicative of someone who's subconscious will always 'create' ghosts and spooky happenings for them because secretly, you want it to be true.

Your belief is rubbing off on your kid who you are going to give psychological issues to if you aren't careful.

Your 'dabbling' with seances and ouija is nonsense.

Ouija boards were invented as parlour games by the victorians and take advantage of the ideometer effect, that makes glasses/pointers etc seem to move on their own. The science is well known and tested.

Once again, in case you missed it the first time:

Ghosts aren't real

Now get a grip of yourself and stop scaring your child.

LonginesPrime · 02/05/2020 07:38

Ghosts aren't real.

Dogs aren't real.

Boireannachlaidir · 02/05/2020 07:40

You're the common denominator here OP. Stop scaring your c

tinierclanger · 02/05/2020 07:43

Have you checked your carbon monoxide detectors lately? Hallucinating can be a symptom of carbon monoxide poisoning

Boireannachlaidir · 02/05/2020 07:44

Stop scaring your child. You're an adult so please behave like one. You're not a teenager having seances anymore.

Like a PP i do feel that some houses have a kind of vibe/energy which can be positive or negative but I'm sure there's an explanation not this.

You sound like you will create drama wherever you are so I'd work on that before you call ghostbusters.

ooooohbetty · 02/05/2020 07:46

No there is no ghost. Not in your house not anywhere. Grow up and stop being silly.

TerrapinStation · 02/05/2020 07:46

I would think not sleeping for days might also be a likely cause of your DH not being quite with it.

I sleep fine and even I sometimes think I've heard some calling me just as I'm falling asleep, I'm sure someone knows the explanation for that.

RoxytheRexy · 02/05/2020 07:50

Hallucinations are a very common side effect of extreme tiredness. You say you see this ‘energy’ at between 2-4 in the morning and your husband is a chronic insomniac. Are you both hallucinating? Paranoia is also common with tiredness

Jada1234 · 02/05/2020 08:28

Ghosts are real.

SimpleKindofLife · 02/05/2020 08:38

I'm not into woo, but i take my mum to a spiritualist church once a month for years. You pick up things!

It sounds like two ghosts to me, one male, one female. If it has always felt like a male to you then this has probably come with you. The female may be another force in the house that's been awoken by your arrival. The dog is increased activity so this is escalating and probably feeding off all your energy, I think you opened something up when you were younger which may have enabled this.

When you feel its presence tell it politely but firmly that it is not welcome in your house and you want it to please leave in peace. Keep repeating this as and when.

This might be enough but I suspect you'll need a visit from your local church. Call them up. If they can't do it now, they may be able to give some advice. I'm sure they've had plenty of calls like this. Or book you an appointment for the future which will give you some peace of mind.

Thanks for you. It's scary. People don't understand unless it's happened to them.
