Well starting off with primary schools.

Schools will reopen when they are told to. They haven't been told to yet, so no point speculating over it.

From the announcement today, yes it’s looking more likely but for some years only.

ducksback · 29/04/2020 14:31

It will be Y10 and Y12 initially when secondaries open as they are the most important just now.

thejollygargler · 29/04/2020 14:33

Only years with an odd number, and only children whose first names are in the last half of the alphabet.

FFS. Nobody knows. Why do you think anyone on here will know?

P1nkHeartLovesCake · 29/04/2020 14:35

Look on a news site, to keep yourself updated on any changes.

If it’s not on a news site, mumsnet don’t know either and we have a when can I get rid of my children thread daily

Notyourmumma · 29/04/2020 14:36

What announcement was made today?

AntiSocialDistancer · 29/04/2020 14:40

FlamingoAndJohn · 29/04/2020 14:41

NO ONE KNOWS.

RedAzalea · 29/04/2020 14:46

Why primary schools op?

Lardlizard · 29/04/2020 16:21

Red because they said primary school will reopen before secondary
Primary and gcse and a level years will open first

Are schools reopening in June ?
AlternativePerspective · 29/04/2020 16:26

He only said that schools would reopen in phases It was the HT’s who have said they can’t realistically open before June.

Biscuit0110 · 29/04/2020 16:38

Yes finally it seems there has been an agreement to reopen after half term, as many of us expected and hoped.
Children are very low risk, teachers that are are in the high risk shielding category will continue to shield, as well as high risk children.
It is still just over a month away to the 1st of June, so not exactly reopening next week but it is a very good sign that it seems to be moving towards a proper announcement. Cabinet meeting tomorrow, announcement on Friday evening is my guess. Along with reopening of garden centres and recycling centres.

The children are really suffering, and closing until September was never going to happen. Six months of no school would be a disaster for our children.

Helen1990 · 29/04/2020 16:42

Nobody knows when it's going to happen but tbh I cant see the schools being open before september

Biscuit0110 · 29/04/2020 16:44

helen No country in the world has closed their school for six whole months!! So why would we? Genuine question.

MissEliza · 29/04/2020 16:45

They won't reopen schools until there is a substantial and sustained drop in infections, which we are nowhere near achieving. When I see how impatient and ignorant some parents are on MN, it explains a lot about some of the children in school.

TheFallenMadonna · 29/04/2020 16:45

An agreement between whom?

MissEliza · 29/04/2020 16:46

@Biscuit0110 Italy? Also apparently Washington state.

Letseatgrandma · 29/04/2020 16:47

because they said primary school will reopen before secondary

Who are ‘they’? Nobody has said this.

Primary and gcse and a level years will open first

Says who?

Why are you posting asking about schools going back and then replying to yourself with answers that aren’t true?

GCSE and A level years won’t go back first as they’ve been cancelled.

OnlyJudyCanJudgeMe · 29/04/2020 16:48

There would be no point in opening them in June because they start summer holidays in the middle/ end of June!
They’ll go back in August hopefully,
(Scotland)

Biscuit0110 · 29/04/2020 16:50

misseliza We have already seen a sustained drop in infection rate, we have ample capacity in the health service. The risk to children is minimal. The government as of today have altered the wording to allow for a second wave. I can't see any other reason why anyone would choose to keep schools closed. On what grounds? Of course we will be returning in June without question. Some children may return earlier.

MoverOfPaper · 29/04/2020 16:54

The article mentioned suggests Y6 may be one of the first of the primary age children to return. I wonder why? I assumed they’d be the last bank as they had pretty Much finished the NC by the time they broke up. They’re probably the easiest primary age group to manage at home while working.
