Well starting off with primary schools.

Allowances will be made. Honestly your posts just sound so self absorbed. Everyone is in the same boat. Your precious prince isn't going to be the only one in this situation. Your kids don't get ill, DH and you don't have pre-existing health conditions, you aren't obese, teachers can wear PPE - listen to your self, Mrs ME ME ME!

ItsGoingTibiaK · 30/04/2020 21:22

@underneaththeash

Hope your "indies" have a better grasp of English (and Latin) than you. It's 'minuscule', from the Latin 'minuscula'.

And your children will be going back whenever schools reopen, which may or may not be June. As has been repeated ad nauseum, there has been no announcement made about when schools will reopen.

wonderstuff · 30/04/2020 21:29

Oxford guy on C4 news said vaccine might be ready by August. Wonder if knowing we could be close to being able to vaccinate will add pressure to delay return?

Unions are meeting with Gov tomorrow apparently, plan will be announced next week.

Today literally nobody knows.

Primary schools will open first to allow workers to return. Then I expect year 10s and 12s to go back and maybe the other years by June/July, but no one knows.

FlamingoAndJohn · 30/04/2020 21:48

Where did you hear that @randomguy12?

AmelieTaylor · 30/04/2020 21:48

@Biscuit0110 stop making out like you know something no one else does, you're just puffing hot air - it's not helpful, but you know that.

randomguy12 · 30/04/2020 21:48

@FlamingoAndJohn hear what?

FlamingoAndJohn · 30/04/2020 21:52

That primary schools will be the first to open, @randomguy12

Letseatgrandma · 30/04/2020 21:52

Primary schools will open first to allow workers to return

There is no way that primary schools opening will look anything like they do, ‘normally’. I can’t imagine it will help anyone get back to work really.

randomguy12 · 30/04/2020 21:53

@FlamingoAndJohn
I haven’t heard it anywhere, but it makes the most sense.

To get the economy up and going again, workers need to return ASAP (wearing masks and limited social distancing?), but if primary schools are closed, most workers won’t be able to work since they will have to provide child care and look after the little ones, so it makes the most sense for primary schools to open first.

randomguy12 · 30/04/2020 21:54

@Letseatgrandma yeah, I’m beginning to question what I said lol

Indie - discounted the summer term fees. Kids are doing full time 'Team' classes, lots of other activities & support They have been brilliant!

Kids are enjoying it, they think they're learning more & they feel 'connected
to school/teachers/students. Very happy

School are considering going back one week earlier (last week of August) and only having one week, instead of two, at the break
But think the kids NEED a proper holiday

Teachers agreed to no
Pay rise this year, are currently working their arses off teaching in this new way and will bloody well deserve a holiday.

There will be a decent amount of notice as it's one thing to tell parents the school will be closing & Parents will need to keep their children at home and quite a different thing to take many children into schools that have been largely closed for weeks. There are all kinds of health & safety issues that will need dealing with before they can have kids back in (even in schools that have had a few kids in still)

Not to mention the Govt said - IF they closed down schools it wouldn't be just a few weeks, it would need to be for at least 13-16 weeks.

I will be astounded if they go back this term.

FecktheBoss · 30/04/2020 22:14

My guess is within the next 3 weeks, based on the announcement today from DfE regarding the relaxing of some legal duties on LAs for Special needs children. The notice is valid for 1 month but can be extended. They have no reason to bring this into force unless they are re-opening schools.

ineedaholidaynow · 30/04/2020 22:36

Can anyone explain why South Korean schools are still closed, when they are not in lockdown and they are using tracking and testing, and they have had so few deaths?

bananaskinsnomnom · 30/04/2020 22:45

@Biscuit0110 I really think you need to reign in your optimism that the schools will be “making up for the lost time” across the holidays! And believe me, they won’t be looking at each other saying “oh that schools doing tuition through August, yes let’s do that too!”
Some will, I don’t deny that. But unless it’s compulsory, for a thousand reasons that have been discussed multiple times, it’s very unlikely that a full school program will be on offer throughout the holidays.

Private school term extension? More possible, for sure. The private schools near me (and where I work) finish around the 3rd July. So IF they return in June, there’s a chance they might stick a week or two on and bring them in line with the state schools. MIGHT.
But most private schools are loosing money due to reducing fees and have a very high possibility of reduction in numbers due to businesses collapsing and possible redundancies in this crisis. So to extend holidays and end up having to pay staff extra (I’m not here to argue the teacher salary again - but support staff in particular are literally paid by the hour and will definitely need additional pay in the holidays, it’s pittance as it is)
Plus like many have said many private schools seem to be providing a full timetable in line with the reduced fees, extending term when fees are down in making a loss. And parents won’t be happy with an additional bill.

But like it’s been said, a thousand times, no one knows.

All this vaccination stuff being ready by August too, what a load of twaddle. I wouldn’t take a vaccine that soon, for all I know I could grow an extra leg or drop dead in a years time. Most people must realise that these vaccines need more than a year of tests before being made available.

Umnoway · 30/04/2020 23:06

No.

Primary schools will open first to allow workers to return

A lot of people post on here what they want to happen as it if is what will be happening.

We are discussing what it might look like in our primary. There's noise about it being just year 6 due to transition. That sounds great. But it will tie up 4 class teachers to teach two classes and that's if we are allowed 15 to a class. And those other 2 teachers will have classes they are remote teaching too. As well as being in teaching children who are not their pupils.

That won't impress parents with siblings who can't go when their y6 can.
It's more likely that they will be back for part of the week, but not all of the week and it will be mixed with some remote learning still.

Opening up schools is NOT about letting people get back to work. It's about letting pupils get back to their education.

flabbyflabbyflabguts · 30/04/2020 23:18

I think so. The duty on local authorities to meet EHCP requirements has been relaxed to "reasonable endeavours" until May 31st.

Gobbolinocat · 30/04/2020 23:19

I cannot possibly see how they could. New reports from China say children just as susceptible.
I mean if my dc went to school and the gov said it was safe and they died of covid I'd sue... They do safe guarding and stress over the most ridiculous things but send dc back in a fucking pandemic robbing people of breath and no cure!!.?

How could they.

Gobbolinocat · 30/04/2020 23:25

My older dc in college. They are pretty much at virtual college just like before lock down.

They follow the same time table, if they are late or don't log in the parents are chased!
All students asked about tech, tech made available to them.
Sometimes it's seeing teacher most of the time it's done with work put up and chats abouts it. No one shows themselves.... They can do it on phones too.
Our youngest in primary has had fuck all.

Lardlizard · 03/05/2020 14:12

This is starting to look more and more likely
