Mine is D. B. Cooper. He hijacked a beong 727, stole $1.25 million in today's money, and parachuted down to earth with it. His identity is unknown and it's unknown if he survived the plunge to earth.

Yes supposedly all gone to bed. Mother says she got up in morning and found ransom note on the staircase that went from her bedroom to kitchen.

MulticolourMophead · 02/05/2020 23:34

Darklane If they were off course and didn't realise, then the searches may have been in the wrong place to find anything.

Stephanie Harlowe has an excellent true crime channel on You Tube. She does intensive research, then presents all the evidence to the viewer. I've just binge-watched all her stories on cults, which were fascinating. www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL7Wr0HZF_B2DEXXjcAMPjpyojUzSy3c2w

There is an interesting analysis of the 'ransom' note here. It makes the point that most ransom notes are short. Three sentences. Not eight pages. And who the hell writes we represent a small foreign faction? The ransom note is not credible.

Pootle40 · 03/05/2020 08:03

@BovaryX

Very interesting analysis of the statement.

BovaryX · 03/05/2020 08:16

Pootle
The ransom note is damning. No kidnapper would sit down at the scene of the kidnapping to pen an eight page ransom note. And then leave the target of the 'kidnapping' in the house. If the motive wasn't kidnapping, why would a killer deliberately leave an eight page, handwritten piece of evidence? Written at the scene of a capital crime? There is something really peculiar about this case.

BovaryX · 03/05/2020 08:33

Another really strange case is the Green Beret doctor, Jeffrey McDonald. At the dog end of America's most turbulent decade. A Manson like murder, his two little girls and his wife killed. Did he do it? A military policeman on duty at Fort Bragg saw a woman in a floppy hat standing on the corner near the house. If Jeffrey Macdonald made her up, how did an MP see her?

BigFatSoo · 03/05/2020 10:01

Was just reading articles on Reddit and someone made the point that re: the ransom amount being exactly the same as JRs bonus, it may have been an attempt to shift suspicion onto someone JR worked with.

ALovelyBitOfSquirrel · 03/05/2020 10:10

@BovaryX

Agreed. Also the bit where it says "don't try to grow a brain John" to me that's his wife. I feel that's what she would say to him.

Zaphodsotherhead · 03/05/2020 10:13

I guess the problem with the JBR murder is that the police KNOW one of them did it. But they can't prosecute because they don't know which one, and the three of them would argue and obfuscate and lie and confuse the issue so much that a conviction would be unlikely.

So unless someone confesses, nothing can be done.

Peapod29 · 03/05/2020 10:17

Gosh. Yes seems completely implausible that someone would break in when all the family were there, knowing they likely risked discovery. Yet alone leaving a massive note! What a bizarre case. Was there not more suspicion on the father? He would seem the most obvious suspect.

BigFatSoo · 03/05/2020 11:00

Part of the problem is that there is so much wrong information around. On the Reddit thread people were saying things about her having signs of abuse (one in particular) but the autopsy report says no such thing.

I mean textbook in how not to investigate a crime scene. Multiple friends and neighbours were allowed to troop through the house, invited there by the Ramseys.....

CanIHaveAPenguinPlease · 03/05/2020 14:27

To disturb the crime scene?

KittyLane1 · 03/05/2020 15:36

Genuine question:
Why are we allowed to discuss and even accuse family members of murder and covering up the death of JBR but not even utter the name of the missing girl incase we upset her parents?

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 03/05/2020 15:43

Fair point Kittylane. if the Ramsays are innocent and in the eyes of the law they are. Well no charges have been brought against them, surely that is deflamatio n of character.

AlternativePerspective · 03/05/2020 17:16

@ KittyLane1 I agree,but I think that timing is everything here.

JBR’s disappearance was a long time ago,whereas more recent ones were at a time when many of us had children the same age etc. As time goes on, those children will grow up and they will become the generation of parents who look back to unsolved mysteries and bring up those which will then be seen as a long time ago. Iyswim.And at that point people will voice what they actualy thought without the risk of being deleted.

AlternativePerspective · 03/05/2020 17:18

Invariably when someone makes a televised appeal they have some involvement. Not always obviously, but more often than not. In fact one of the reasons why parents etc are encouraged to make appeals is so that psychologists can study their reactions to assess their potential guilt.

JacobReesMogadishu · 03/05/2020 17:28

I watched the missing 411 hunted documentary on YouTube this afternoon after someone on this thread recommended it.

I’ve now fallen down a Bigfoot rabbit hole and am reading a book Tribal Bigfoot and have been converted from a total non believer to now thinking Bigfoot is real!

Fleamaker123 · 03/05/2020 17:38

@JacobReesMogadishu
You need to watch the tv programme Finding Bigfoot... I used to love it!

JanMeyer · 03/05/2020 17:49

the men all had learning difficulties so it's plausible that this played a large part in why they didn't stay together/eat the food

Not all of them had a learning disability, one of them was schizophrenic and not developmentally disabled at all.

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 03/05/2020 18:22

@AuntMasha it's so surreal! Know more luck then anything but how neither of them were killed running across

JacobReesMogadishu · 03/05/2020 19:02

@Fleamaker123 thanks, am going to try and find it.
