Mine is D. B. Cooper. He hijacked a beong 727, stole $1.25 million in today's money, and parachuted down to earth with it. His identity is unknown and it's unknown if he survived the plunge to earth.

Regarding the JoBenet case, it's possible a clever intruder wrote a ransom note that was made to look like it was written by the parents. According to Wikipedia a high number of sex offenders lived in the vicinity of the Ramsey residence.

I'm unsure whether a boy of 9 possesses the strength to fracture a skull. In the Yorkshire Ripper serial killer case the killer started bringing a screwdriver with him to the murders to stab with because the women he was battering over the head with a hammer were surviving. It's hard for me to see a nine year old boy accomplishing what a fully grown man with an unquenchable hatred for his victims couldn't. Perhaps the boy jumped on her as she lay sleeping on the floor, but that seems awfully malicious even for a young boy.

It's possible an accident so freakish occurred that the parents concluded the police would never believe it.

I'm not saying the parents are innocent, but it's difficult for me to see a motive. Having said that, parents who push their kids to be highly competitive, as they appear to have done with her in beauty pagents, can be incredibly harsh on their children.

lifeisbrutal there was a book written on the case of JBR by someone who worked on the case. The handwriting experts reported that the ransom note was in Patsy's handwriting. The family buggered off on holiday soon after the murder and snuck the brother out of the house while the search was going on. There was so much odd going on there. If your daughter was missing presumed kidnapped wouldn't you want to keep your son in your sight?

queenofarles · 02/05/2020 11:41

patsy didn’t disconnect the 911 call and voices were heard in the background , the operator said that patsy’s voice went from panicky to calm Instantly , John was heard saying "we are not talking to you" patsy was saying something incomprehensible and a third person was saying "what did you find". There was someone other than the family there. I don’t think it’s a stranger who killed JonBenet.

The letter makes no sense whatsoever or add anything to the case, it’s just so strange.

Strange kind of kidnapping for ransom when the child never left the house....

BovaryX · 02/05/2020 13:06

And if the killer was a sex offender, why did he write an eight page rambling ransom letter written on a notepad from the house? Not credible.

Watched a documentary, “Missing 411 - The Hunted” on Thursday evening about people who go missing in America’s many and vast National Parks. Made by an ex Police Officer David Paulides, he investigates several of the most perplexing cases, some of which where a body or remains are found, others where the person appears to have disappeared into thin air. I found it really gripping and must admit was considerably spooked when thinking it over afterwards.

There was one particular case he covered, totally baffling and inexplicable which reminded me a little of the Dyatlov Pass incident.

AuntMasha · 02/05/2020 15:37

Incidentally, there’s a documentary about the Swedish sisters Ursula and Sabina Eriksson called “Madness in the Fast Lane”. You can watch it on YouTube;

Really enjoying reading up on those these. Just anyone know of any really good of casts for listening to some of these cases. Most I've tried are just full of the broadcasters opinions, )and all the American hey y'all how are you all doing today... so this case is about a Disney cruise line, I live Disney, I am going to retire right next to the parks, I've been on their ship 4 x arrrgghhh get on with it!)

loopylindazdaughter · 02/05/2020 16:45

Really good podcasts that was supposed to say c

Fleamaker123 · 02/05/2020 16:55

JonBenet Ramsay
The ransom note is the most crucial piece of evidence... If it is proved fake then there was no intruder, and that leaves only one of two people that could have written it?
It's the most bizarre case, so many random details that don't make sense.

Frownette · 02/05/2020 17:33

@AuntMasha I'll definitely watch that later.

I had a brief read about the twins when someone mentioned it upthread, couldn't help but feel a pang for the man who tried to help Sabina and got stabbed!

queenofarles · 02/05/2020 17:45

The ransom note said that the kidnapper will call John between 8 and 10am, no one calls, and no one panics that the kidnapper didn’t call.
The letter is completely forgotten,

John leaves at 10,30 am for an hour to pick up the mail, who does that?

I might be too invested in this case, it’s truly the strangest thing I’ve read.

JaneyGotAGun · 02/05/2020 17:48

@loopylindazdaughter That Chapter podcasts are really good- Irish guy called Mike does them and covers all kinds of different crimes

ALovelyBitOfSquirrel · 02/05/2020 18:11

@zaphodsotherhead thank you for that link Smile

loopylindazdaughter · 02/05/2020 18:23

Thanks @JaneyGotAGun

Fleamaker123 · 02/05/2020 18:50

The ransom note just looks like it's trying too hard, all that information, rambling on and on. The mother didn't sleep in her bed that night either, she still had her outfit on from the previous evening. I sway from one theory to the other.

Lemonlady22 · 02/05/2020 20:28

That chapter podcast on YouTube is really good

Pootle40 · 02/05/2020 20:40

@queenofarles

You're completely right and I think when you've studied this case in detail which you and me and some others on here have it is very clear there was no intruder. Whether it was the brother or the mum or dad. Someone went very wrong in the house that night - and some sort of heat of the moment serious violence took place and was covered up by the parents.

When they speak to the handler who took the 911 call she is visibly upset and said she didn't feel comfortable with it at the time.

What always stuck in my mind was Patsy being asked who she was and she said 'I'm the mother' and not 'I'm her mom'. The language used in the call was very odd indeed.

And yes she was wearing the same clothes from the previous day......

Pootle40 · 02/05/2020 20:43

@Fleamaker

What do you think happened?

I particularly liked the bit in the 'case of jonbenet' docu when they revealed the random note was full of quotes from famous crime films.....!

Fleamaker123 · 02/05/2020 21:24

@Pootle40
Have you read the opinions of the handwriting experts on the ransom note, they're fascinating. I think if the note is a fake, then that rules out any intruder. Most of them think the mother wrote it..
But then to do all that to cover up.. Why? Did they panic? They may have not wanted the scandal of an accident maybe?

Pootle40 · 02/05/2020 21:50

@Fleamaker123

I think a number of people were convinced the parents had done a cover up. I think they didn't want to lose what family they had left. I do think Patsy drove the decision to go ahead with the cover up though and Jon went along with it

Peapod29 · 02/05/2020 22:17

I’ve just read about The JB Ramsay case. How tragic. It’s not too clear from the wiki page, was she in the house overnight with all her family when the intruder was supposed to have broken in? So they alerted police at 5 am, they had put her to bed as normal the night before and all gone to bed as normal?

Darklane · 02/05/2020 22:37

Glenn Miller. No wreckage or bodies were ever found.

NorthernLass75 · 02/05/2020 22:42

Just reading about the Boy in the Box. Tragic to think that the body of a 5/6 year old was discovered and he was buried in a pauper’s grave.
