Right, that’s it, I’ve had enough. I’m having a day out. Who’s with me?

(Obviously this isn’t real, before you send the lockdown squad round)
I fancy a day out at Whitby. Wander along the beach. Mooch round the lanes and little shops. Fish n chips. A cold pint of shandy. Think about walking up the steps to the abbey.(then change my mind again) an ice cream then home.
Where are you running away to?

Never mind a day out, I'm off to the Maldives to relax in an overwater bungalow no technology and no tv! 🧉🏝

LemonadeAndDaisyChains · 22/04/2020 21:32

I really fancy a day out in Bakewell, Peak District Derbyshire way.
A nice wander round town, lunch in a cafe and some nice bakewell tarts from a bakery to take back home with me.
I've always wanted to go to Stratford Upon Avon too, so after lockdown I need to do it lol.

MarieIVanArkleStinks · 22/04/2020 21:33

I love sitting in the window of the Duke of York pub, beer in hand, watching the sun set over Whitby Harbour. A walk up the abbey stairs over the clifftop towards the Old Bull. A walk around the pier watching the evening catch come in. That amazing smell of Fortunes Kipper Smoke House. A big plate of fish & chips at the Magpie Cafe, a big wine at a nearby pub, a good wade in the sea feeling the sand under my feet.

Can I come, please?

midsomermurderess · 22/04/2020 21:38

I'd love to drive out of Edinburgh to the beach at Gullane, and have a good long windy walk on the beach under a true blue dream of sky. It'll still be there though so I can wait.

Dashel · 22/04/2020 21:40

I used to live very close to Bakewell. I don’t know if you can at least get a postal Bakewell pudding. One of the cafes used to send them in post.

I fancy a spa weekend, maybe Champneys or a nice hotel like Matfen or Redworth Hall, a pool, massage and lots of yummy food that someone else cooks 😄

OhTheRoses · 22/04/2020 21:40

Highlights, cut and blow dry after work and meet DH at our favourite restaurant afterwards. Oh and if the following day I could have a mooch around the shops and squirt my favourite perfumes that would be lovely, thank you.

LemonadeAndDaisyChains · 22/04/2020 21:42

@BrassicaBabe
I'll probably stay in. But I'll feel better knowing I could go out if I wanted

Grin

I hear ya - I might not usually go anywhere, or particularly go anywhere interesting anyway, but I want to know that I can if I want Grin

Colouringaddict · 22/04/2020 21:42

I think I will gather up my children and grandchildren and go to Southend, fish and chips, funfair and ice cream and fresh donuts in the car on the way home please!

ellanwood · 22/04/2020 21:43

OP, I'm so jealous of your imaginary day out in Whitby. I've never been and it's on my bucket list. You make it sound so lovely.

I'd be happy with a day out in London. DC miss it so much. Walk long the river to listen to buskers and see the sand sculptors on the shore, go to a gallery or museum, potter around the designer clothes shops in Mayfair (for DC), lunch in a Chinatown cafe, coffee in the Algerian coffee shop, theatre matinee, dinner in Soho, walk back through St James park and over the river to catch the train home, listening to all the buskers on the bridge.

Bakewell puds by post?!
That's my next hour sorted googling lol

Not the OP, but never been to Whitby? You need to, it's lovely!
Every time we go to the seaside it's nearly always to Whitby (went a couple of months ago, seems like years ago now!)
Best place is Magpie for fish and chips. or if you fancy something different the Humble Pie and Mash shop over the bridge.
If we're feeling energetic we do the 199 steps up to the top - it's worth it. you get to look over the harbour and the sea)
If we're not then arcades for 2p machines it is lol.

Shockers · 22/04/2020 21:48

I’m off in the caravan to Anglesey. I’ll meet my brother in his camper van and my dad in his (last time we went, my mum was still alive). We’ll stay at that site by the beach and we’ll walk along the coastal path to the village with the cafe where we sit in the garden. In the evening, we’ll sit with glasses of wine whilst the kids (big and small) play cricket- only stopping when the ice cream van comes. Tomorrow we’ll go rock pooling on the beach. G’night all.

Alsohuman · 22/04/2020 21:49

It’s our wedding anniversary on Sunday, we were planning a night in a swish hotel and dinner in a floating French restaurant. So we’ll do that.

Tjsmumma · 22/04/2020 21:52

Definitely Rye, its my happy place! Have a butchers about, pop in and get some sweeties from the sweet shop, spot of fish and chip lunch in the Salts then wander down the harbour 😭

Dogwalks2 · 22/04/2020 21:52

Really I’d settle for anything further than I can walk to.

PomBearsyummy · 22/04/2020 21:53

The gym

Otterseatpuffinsdontthey · 22/04/2020 21:53

Love this thread - lots of great ideas!
Mine's would be : plane to Barra - landing on the beach. Stay in the small, excellent B&B overlooking the bay. Meal in hotel - fabulous seafood, washed over with lots of wine. Night in the local - sing-song/few Barra gins. As much time as possible on the phenomenal beaches. Boat trip to Mingualay to see the seals and puffins 😀

Dashel · 22/04/2020 21:53

Try Bloomers if Bakewell, they seem to still be open and sending puddings out.

Justgivemewine · 22/04/2020 21:54

Visit the in-laws who live near a lovely beach and go to beach and build sandcastles and paddle in the sea and get an ice cream.

Will never take that for granted again when we finally get to do it again

gavisconismyfriend · 22/04/2020 22:04

Oooh Whitby - I had the best ice cream of my life in Whitby. Blackcurrant and liquorice, was amazing! Would recommend it for after your rush abs chips OP!

Happymum12345 · 22/04/2020 22:14

I’ll jump on an aeroplane to the south of France & swim in the pool then dance the night away.

FunkyChunk · 22/04/2020 22:15

I'll have the birthday that I should have had.

Drop the kids off to Mum's for the weekend and head to a lovely spa hotel with DH. Beautiful 3 course meal and lots of wine. A nice relaxing bath and a full night's sleep in a king size bed!
On Saturday, get all dressed up (hat and all) and enjoy the hospitality and many drinks at Royal Ascot. (Seeing as this is now fantasy I also win many ££££). Go back to the hotel nice and merry and worn out after a fun day.
Sunday, leisurely wake up followed by use of the spa facilities. Head towards home, stopping for a pub lunch on the way and maybe a wander around a lovely little village.

Sad alas, not to be.

mig58 · 22/04/2020 22:17

Battlesteads in Wark. Favourite hotel. Lovely people running it, Great food and just peace.

Arsed · 22/04/2020 22:17

Oh, I want to go to the David Austins rose garden and have a scone and a pot of tea.

mig58 · 22/04/2020 22:18

Not employed by them honestly. Just love the place. It is my happy place.
