When did you stop getting ID’d?

Lighthearted but just that really.

In a strop currently as just got ID’d for trying to buy a small bottle of Mountain Dew. I’m 25... 25!!!
Asked the shopkeeper if she was pulling my leg and then pointed out that the 8yr old child next to me was my DD. She shrugged, removed the drink from my basket and told me you need to be over 16 to purchase energy drinks. So this woman genuinely thinks I look like a 15 year old.

Same thing happened about 2 weeks ago when I put paracetamol in my big food shop, couldn’t believe it but took that one on the chin a bit better as pegged it down to a one off.

As this seems to be a reoccurring theme for me it got me wondering how old people were in general when people stopped asking them for ID? I’m 25 with visible tattoos etc so I’m thinking the day may never come for me!

Not sure, maybe 29? Though recently a shop assistant asked me for ID then looked at my face and laughed and said she was joking, I'm 31 Hmm

Thescrewinthetuna · 22/04/2020 13:55

I’m 31 and still get IDd. It happened regularly until a couple of years ago but it only happens about half the time now. I look my age, I think. I definitely don’t look under 25 let alone under 18. The silliest was getting IDd recently for calpol. I had my 6yo and 4yo with me at the time.

Inaquandry19 · 22/04/2020 13:56

When I was 35. Happened all the time between 25 and 35, odd since it never happened before, even when I was underage!

TheStarryNight · 22/04/2020 13:59

Was ID’d buying a bottle of vodka on my thirtieth birthday. But I think early twenties shop assistant (male) was trying to flirt/make my day.

Was also ID’d trying to buy a scratch card last Christmas. Told the shop assistant I was 43 so well over 16 and she said “well you’re standing there looking like a teenager to me”. Wouldn’t even let DH buy it for me.

worldweary45 · 22/04/2020 14:01

35 -but always by significantly older people, if I got served by an 18 year old I never got asked

all very odd because I was buying cigarettes at 14 and in the pub at 16 and never once got asked for ID

ofwarren · 22/04/2020 14:05

It was about 31.
I was ID on my 30th birthday and it continued for a little while after that.

Ginfordinner · 22/04/2020 14:06

27 while on holiday in San Diego. Luckily I had my passport with me.

Myneighboursnorlax · 22/04/2020 14:07

I’m 30 and recently got ID’d while buying scissors

JoExotic · 22/04/2020 14:20

I still get ID'd. Mostly by older women. I usually get ID'd by the same woman in Asda every week. I'm mid 30's.
I got ID'd in M&S last week. I don't know anyone under 18 who would go food shopping in M&S but it must happen I suppose.

Picklypickles · 22/04/2020 14:22

Not yet, I'm 38 and still get asked occcasionally! I am pretty short though, could be that I guess!

Otterses · 22/04/2020 14:33

Still get ID'd constantly at 27.

The only occasion I haven't was when I looked really angry, and was buying wine, chocolate, and a jumbo sized pack of sanitary pads. I like to think the poor boy was too scared to ask me for it Grin

HarrietM87 · 22/04/2020 14:36

Don’t think I’ve been ID’d since I was about 27, but it was a common occurrence up until then. One particularly infuriating time I needed a last minute present for DH’s granny and was buying a “happy 80th” card, bunch of flowers, gift bag and bottle of champagne and had no ID on me and they wouldn’t sell me the flipping champagne. DH then tried to buy it and they wouldn’t serve him either because they said he would just give it to me!

INeedACorona · 22/04/2020 14:38

Most recent was last year. I nearly fell over as I'm 42!!

ilovecakeandwine · 22/04/2020 14:38

Very rarely now but I'm early 40s, it has happened in the last 12 months . I usually have my driving license on me so no bother and it makes my day if asked . I definitely don't look like a teenager though . Grin

JustAnotherMumTho · 22/04/2020 14:39

I'm 26 and up until recently I would be ID'd every time. Now it happens less and I tend to find that when it does, it's by an older cashier. The young ones seem to realise I'm older than them.

randomsabreuse · 22/04/2020 14:42

I'm 38 and last got IDd for non alcoholic beers at 37. My 2nd DC was approx 8 weeks old and feeding constantly - I'd just walked to the shop for a break from the yelling. Was more than a little shocked to be IDd at all!

Iwalkinmyclothing · 22/04/2020 14:43

Since having ds3 aged 33.

It used to annoy me so fucking much to get ID'd. It makes me quite sad now that no one IDs me any more. I'm not sure what that pregnancy did to age me so badly but literally the last time I got ID'd was early in pregnancy with him and it has never happened since.

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 22/04/2020 14:44

Still happens sometimes now at 40. It's funny though when I am with DS and we both get asked for ID - he pulls out his driving licence showing he is 20, and tells them I'm his mum, which gives us all a smile.

rubydoobydoo · 22/04/2020 14:45

I'm 41 and was still getting IDed regularly as recently as last year.... it hasn't happened for a while so maybe I've finally started looking over 25! Grin

kitk · 22/04/2020 14:46

Constantly at 35, even when I seek out the people who are clearly younger than me!

DinosApple · 22/04/2020 14:47

Last time I was ID'd I was 17 and had fake ID. No, 21, but that was Las Vegas so doesn't count.

My older brother last got asked about 3 years ago. He was 37. He exudes trendy youthfulness (no kids!).

DailyKegelReminder · 22/04/2020 14:50

I would buy alcohol and cigarettes youngest being about 14/15 no bother. Then from 18 onwards I was always asked. Makes sense dont it.

26 now and 50/50 really but mainly in supermarkets, having worked in one I know it's more they cant tell for sure so need to ask anyway, rather than me looking under 18 (because I really dont)

DailyKegelReminder · 22/04/2020 14:51

Or under 25 even*

JacobReesMogadishu · 22/04/2020 14:51

I was 41 when I was last ID’d. The checkout assistant bless her looked old enough to be my Gran so possibly didn’t have the best eyesight.

TheReluctantCountess · 22/04/2020 14:52

I’ve only ever been asked once, when I was 19. I’d been regularly going to pubs since I was 16 as well. I’m 41 now and not likely to ever get asked again.
