When did you stop getting ID’d?

Lighthearted but just that really.

In a strop currently as just got ID’d for trying to buy a small bottle of Mountain Dew. I’m 25... 25!!!
Asked the shopkeeper if she was pulling my leg and then pointed out that the 8yr old child next to me was my DD. She shrugged, removed the drink from my basket and told me you need to be over 16 to purchase energy drinks. So this woman genuinely thinks I look like a 15 year old.

Same thing happened about 2 weeks ago when I put paracetamol in my big food shop, couldn’t believe it but took that one on the chin a bit better as pegged it down to a one off.

As this seems to be a reoccurring theme for me it got me wondering how old people were in general when people stopped asking them for ID? I’m 25 with visible tattoos etc so I’m thinking the day may never come for me!

I've just turned 45 and was last ID'd about 9 months ago. With me, it tends to happen if I go out wearing hoody with unstyled hair and no make-up - I think I possibly look like a particularly haggard and hung-over student who looks rough enough to be mistaken for a middle-aged woman.

40+

Up until that point no one ever believed me that I had a grown up daughter. But after about that age there are subtle tells, even if you’re still generally youthful in appearance or character.

Actually I tell a lie - thinking about it more carefully it was probably about 37. But since 40+ I don’t even look very young for my age, I just look roundabout my age. Which is just fine with me. 👍

@pinkazing that too, but it was 20 years ago when I worked in Sainsbury's so I'd forgotten Grin

I got ID'd in Sainsburys buying cigarettes last week. I'm 40 - and definitely don't look under 18 or even 25 for that matter.....

Most supermarkets/chains now ask staff to ID people as a matter of course. I think they're just terrified about getting caught out so it's easier to ID everyone rather than try and work out who might be/might not be underage.
