When did you stop getting ID’d?

Lighthearted but just that really.

In a strop currently as just got ID’d for trying to buy a small bottle of Mountain Dew. I’m 25... 25!!!
Asked the shopkeeper if she was pulling my leg and then pointed out that the 8yr old child next to me was my DD. She shrugged, removed the drink from my basket and told me you need to be over 16 to purchase energy drinks. So this woman genuinely thinks I look like a 15 year old.

Same thing happened about 2 weeks ago when I put paracetamol in my big food shop, couldn’t believe it but took that one on the chin a bit better as pegged it down to a one off.

As this seems to be a reoccurring theme for me it got me wondering how old people were in general when people stopped asking them for ID? I’m 25 with visible tattoos etc so I’m thinking the day may never come for me!

I'm 33 and still get ID'd!

WellGoshDarnIt · 22/04/2020 14:55

I was about 17 - I have always had a ridiculously grown up face. I was buying fags for older friends at 12. I loved it when I was younger, definitely don't now I'm 46!

pinkazing · 22/04/2020 14:55

41 for me is that last time. But I cherish it

Danglingmod · 22/04/2020 14:56

Have never been ID'd.

I am late forties, though, so ever since the age they were supposed to check got higher and higher, I've always been a bit/lot older than that. (I don't think I look any older than my age at all, BTW)

UponTheBlueGuitar · 22/04/2020 14:56

When I was 23.

Haybo26 · 22/04/2020 14:57

I'm 42 and still get I'd quite often in Asda

MoonlightMistletoe · 22/04/2020 14:57

I'm 26 and get asked often.

EmbarrassedUser · 22/04/2020 14:57

I get ID’d occasionally now (I’m 36) The funniest one was 3 years ago when I got ID’d for a scratch card! I had DS(14) with me at the time and I was like 😆🤦‍♀️ whilst DS and DH were laughing their heads off.

whatnow40 · 22/04/2020 14:59

About 36. I found if I wore my hair back i was more likely to get ID'd.

CatBatCat · 22/04/2020 14:59

Never used to get it in my late teens early twenties and now I get asked it all the time now I'm in my 30s.

FlamingoAndJohn · 22/04/2020 14:59

I’ve never been ID’d.
Like a PP I think that when I was young they didn’t bother, I was drinking in pubs from 15, then as I’ve got older I’ve been above the age to get IDd.

QuinceSavedMyLife · 22/04/2020 15:01

I was asked at 25 when buying alcohol in a supermarket

BuntyCollocks · 22/04/2020 15:07

I got ID’d in October in morrisons. I’m 36. Literally had the 🤨 face as I looked like the overworked mum of 2 I am, but the woman said there was no way I was old enough to be buying drink. 😂🤨😂

HemlockStarglimmer · 22/04/2020 15:09

I never have been. But I'm ancient 😁

Elsiebear90 · 22/04/2020 15:10

I’m 30 and I rarely get asked, some places like B&Q and a particular Sainsbury’s petrol station ask every single time I go (I’m very clearly over 25) which is odd, but maybe they’ve been stung for not asking when they should have so are being extra cautious.

CoffeeRunner · 22/04/2020 15:11

I never ever have been ID’d.

When I started going to pubs at 16, you were just asked your date of birth. Which you made up. That was that.

Since the days of asking for ID in shops etc I’ve obviously looked old enough for it not to be an issue! I’m 44.

LemonScentedStickyBat · 22/04/2020 15:13

Just once, at 20.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 22/04/2020 15:15

Still get asked occasionally. I'm 29. Typically the one time I had no ID on me was a time I got asked and the shop assistant refused to serve me. I was mortified!

1990shopefulftm · 22/04/2020 15:18

Yes I m 25 and still happens when I m alone but if I m with my husband no one asks, being married must make me look older.

Brunelofbrio · 22/04/2020 15:28

16 or 17 but then I’ve always had an ‘old face’

Maybe it was the buying of Mountain Dew?

Thecomfortador · 22/04/2020 15:30

I think around 30. But I don't really buy alcohol much these days, I'm 38 now. I wasn't asked for id once until I was 18 and the guy who'd been serving us for many months finally decided to check.

fishonabicycle · 22/04/2020 15:35

Well into my twenties, and actually got one in my forties! I actually laughed and said 'really?'. I'm small so maybe that mislead her.

moveandmove · 22/04/2020 15:36

I'm late 30s and have been ID'd a few times in the last few months. I think ages are hard to judge nowadays so staff are always extra careful.

Longdistance · 22/04/2020 15:40

Last year I got Id’d in Iceland as I was buying wine. I’m 44. The lady on the till said I was the same age as her mum.
