Would you have said no as well?

Delivery driver today visibly uncomfortable in some way asked to use our toilet - I felt bad but had to say no as apart from the CV risk currently i wasn’t sure if he may have had a bad stomach? I have young dc who aren’t well so can’t risk it.
I felt bad after but I think anyone at this time would have said no wouldn’t they

100 percent I'd have said no with or without the virus risk.

I wouldn't want a strange person pooing in my loo!

cowfacemonkey · 21/04/2020 16:58

Oh dear poor guy I suspect there are even less options to find toilets for delivery drivers at the minute with shops and public areas closed. Not unreasonable at all though to say no though given the current advice.

SorrelBlackbeak · 21/04/2020 17:00

I would have let him, but we have a downstairs loo which we barely use so it's not a big deal to put it in quarantine. I'd have asked him to shove some bleach down when he'd finished though.

user1493413286 · 21/04/2020 17:00

I would have said no; although I do wonder where they might now use as a lot of places are shut and there’s big ques into supermarkets

XylophoneSymphony · 21/04/2020 17:01

I did feel bad but even ordinarily due to the dc health I’d have said no but with coronavirus too for some stupid reason I nearly said ‘we don’t have a toilet’ as I was flustered 😩 but then managed to say I’m really sorry no

We have 2 toilets - one right next to the front door so I would have let him use that one and then cleaned it. He must have been quite desperate to ask! But if I only had the upstairs toilet and like you had children who were vulnerable I would have said sorry and no. I think you did the right thing.

triedandtestedteacher · 21/04/2020 17:06

I would have let him and then spent hours cleaning and worrying so you probably did the right thing

Michaelbaubles · 21/04/2020 17:07

Hmm, it must be really difficult for them right now with so many places closed but it’s also a bad time to ask to go into someone’s house and I think you’re within your rights to say no.

copperoliver · 21/04/2020 17:08

100% no. X

XylophoneSymphony · 21/04/2020 17:09

Yes we just have the one and it’s upstairs

We've had advice through at work that it is illegal to refuse visiting delivery drivers access to toilets, we've always let them anyway but I guess the advice has been re-sent because they have had difficulties since the start of the outbreak. I'm not sure if the same applies at home though. I would have said yes and cleaned afterwards but we do have a downstairs loo.

TheGreatWave · 21/04/2020 17:12

I would have said yes, but I have a toilet that has immediate access to an outside door.

I can understand others saying no.

ineedsun · 21/04/2020 17:13

I'd have let them in if they were visibly struggling. I'm sure they wouldn't have just asked for a laugh.

Surely if you're that worried you just sanitise it all afterwards?

HandfulOfFlowers · 21/04/2020 17:13

I would have said yes. We are really fortunate that these people are still willing to come to work so you can have your deliveries in the first place.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 21/04/2020 17:14

I only have 1 toilet upstairs so would probably have apologised and said my husband was showering. If I had a toilet downstairs I would have said yes

XylophoneSymphony · 21/04/2020 17:15

I did feel really bad but I had about a million worries rush through my head Even if it was literally just a quick wee it’s still the risk of CV
But he looked uncomfy I was thinking oh no it’ll be an upset stomach and I can’t cope with the germ worry due to dc plus I’d have to have cleaned and I have a Velcro toddler

I just feel bad ! I overthink stuff

Ahh it's understandable but I have to wonder where they're going?! I have ibs issues and the thought of having a job like that with no public toilets, McDonald's etc open would be my worse nightmare!

Pinkblueberry · 21/04/2020 17:17

I hope this is joke comment. Of course it’s not illegal to refuse a delivery driver entry into your home Hmm

TheMandalorian · 21/04/2020 17:18

In your situation I would have said no. But we have a loo next to the front door so I would have let him use that. I would never let a stranger any further into the house. My husband would be a flat no because he is paranoid/ sensible.
It could be a scam to case your house or distract you from an accomplice coming in the back door.

MasterBruceBalloon · 21/04/2020 17:18

I get feeling uncomfortable but the poor guy must have really needed access or he wouldn't have asked. I would have let him. He probably would have cleaned up after himself without you even asking. He can't help getting caught short and with loads of places shut he can't run in to a cafe instead.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 21/04/2020 17:20

It’s illegal not to let someone take a dump in your loo. That’s a new one

Theukisgreatt · 21/04/2020 17:25

I would say yes if it looked like they were suffering. I have IBS myself and the idea of turning someone in pain and need away is not for me. I do have a downstairs loo and I would obviously clean everything after.

Reginabambina · 21/04/2020 17:26

‘We don’t have a toilet’ Grin

XylophoneSymphony · 21/04/2020 17:27

I know it was literally the first thing I nearly said as I panicked ! I would have felt even worse then if I had said that

OP posts:
MostlyAmbridgeandcoffee · 21/04/2020 17:28

I would have said yes but I can see why you didn’t I guess
