Would you have said no as well?

Delivery driver today visibly uncomfortable in some way asked to use our toilet - I felt bad but had to say no as apart from the CV risk currently i wasn’t sure if he may have had a bad stomach? I have young dc who aren’t well so can’t risk it.
I felt bad after but I think anyone at this time would have said no wouldn’t they

Glad you're happy for people to go uncomfortable. I won't be retracting anything; in my opinion you should never be told no if you ask to go to the bathroom. Whether it's legal, moral or whatever is of no consequence. You should never be told no to go to the toilet. I'd love to hear how you'd take that as an answer if you asked the question. There are no public toilets because all venues with them are closed. That's probably untrue too but I couldn't give a shit; people who decline bathroom use are dicks. Bye now Smile

I would have let him. He must have been absolutely desperate. I have bleach and toilet cleaner next to my toilet, so I'd ask him to thoroughly clean it afterwards. I wouldn't consider the risk to be any more than I face going to Tesco.

No harm is going to come to children from 'a strange man' when the mother is there. But if I was that worried I'd wait by the open front door with them until he came back.

turn At present I wouldn't ask because I am practicing social distancing as required.

In any other circumstance where I was refused I'm sure I would wish I had been allowed to use the facilities but I'd like to think I'd be gracious enough to understand that I don't get to demand access to someone else's property and recognise that I have no idea what their reasons may be for saying no.

Unfortunately we live in a world where people have been harmed by strangers tricking their way into their homes (particularly lone women, and yes while their children are present) and I think you are being bloody-minded in failing to recognise that consideration against the need of the asker to use the loo.

You are however as entitled to your view as I am to mine. What you are not entitled to do, without strong push-back is try to persuade people to do things your way by wrongly suggesting they are criminals for doing something else. That was my main point and I think it's made, however little you wish to concede it.

I think I would have. He must have been desperate!

I do understand why you said no though.

BlueMorning · 25/04/2020 16:22

saraclara I'm not trying to scare-monger because of course the vast majority of people who'd ask are perfectly nice and just want to use the loo.

But there are some staggeringly naive sentiments on this thread and truly with respect I think yours is one.

Please just Google 'man tricked way into home' and see how many instances are reported. Mercifully most cases of this seem to be for theft but some are worse and children absolutely are harmed when their mother is there (if you can bear to look up Joseph McCann for a recent example, please do, but don't do it during a meal).

There are reasons that some people are not blasé about allowing people into their homes, particularly when by themselves and particularly when they have children in their care, and it's not because they're unfeeling bastards.

Don't really care what some internet sprite like turn thinks. I think people who'd let some random in to use their upstairs toilet whilst they were in the house with two children who are unwell are stupid. The virus doesn't care about compassion or your heart or anything, just finding another host or hosts.

I've been burgled twice in my life so no longer let people like this. There are some really naive people about.

1066vegan · 26/04/2020 11:54

I know that I'm naive (possibly linked to my autism) but I prefer to think the best of people than go round assuming the worst.

I would always take the very small chance that a delivery driver (who could after all be traced by the company he works for) was planning to burgle me if the alternative was that the poor bloke was very likely to piss or shit himself because he had a very tight schedule and no chance to use a public toilet.
