Would you have said no as well?

Delivery driver today visibly uncomfortable in some way asked to use our toilet - I felt bad but had to say no as apart from the CV risk currently i wasn’t sure if he may have had a bad stomach? I have young dc who aren’t well so can’t risk it.
I felt bad after but I think anyone at this time would have said no wouldn’t they

I can't believe how precious people are about stuff like this. Although I've always had a ground floor loo (it was our only loo for 2 decades, to the amazement of visiting children). I guess upstairs is different. #be kind has had its day!

myusernamewastakenbyme · 21/04/2020 17:38

I'd have let him use my loo no problem...can't believe the neurotic people on here who said no...lets hope none of you have ibs and are caught with no where to go.

XylophoneSymphony · 21/04/2020 17:43

I fully understand what people with IBS go through my dc with the most health issues has IBS, coeliacs, diabetes and asd it’s mostly the worry if he had an upset stomach how ill that could have made them and we don’t want a hospital trip at the current time I think that’s why I felt so bad as I know how awful it can be when someone needs to go desperately but the worry of potential stomach issues plus CV was too much

That the sort of thing I would have said 'I'm sorry we don't have a toilet, we just use a bush round the corner'

Thinking about it logically afterwards I would have let him but it's that moment when you're not prepared and end up saying something like the above. Don't sweat it!

DisgraceToTheYChromosome · 21/04/2020 17:55

We've got a downstairs loo, so yes. The advice about refusing visiting drivers toilet access applies to workplaces, not dwellings.

Lovinglockdownlife · 21/04/2020 18:00

I’d have let him in no problem

Toomboom · 21/04/2020 18:09

I would have let him in. Poor guy, probably nowhere open at the moment.
My son has crohns, so I know when he needs the toilet it has to be right now, he can't wait. Possibly this poor man had something like this. Must be horrible to be turned away.

minisoksmakehardwork · 21/04/2020 18:11

Don't stress about it. You gave an answer based on your own circumstances - upstairs look and already unwell kids, and for you that was the right answer. I don't blame you for saying no.

Plus if your kids are ill with a bug there's as much chance it could be passed on to the driver as them passing bugs to you.

Scardot · 21/04/2020 18:38

I understand why you did it but I would feel terrible if I was you, poor bloke!

Ifonlywecouldwishuponastar · 21/04/2020 18:43

I would have said no. No matter how nice they are if you are at risk you need to think of yourself.

mbosnz · 21/04/2020 18:44

With DH home, I would say yes. And resign myself to an awful lot of deepcleaning. Without DH home, I would have said no, and hated on myself for quite some time.

I've been caught short so often, it's a horrible experience.

Mustrryharder · 21/04/2020 18:49

I think thats mean and hope if you ever find yourself in that position you'll understand what that's like. Also remember, some people have chronic illnesses that aren't visible.

Flymetothetoon · 21/04/2020 18:49

I wouldn't have said no but only because our downstairs loo is right by front door and tiny so a doddle to clean.
If we only had an upstairs bathroom I probably would have been hesitant.

user1480880826 · 21/04/2020 18:51

I would have said yes. Poor guy was obviously desperate. I would have just cleaned the toilet and sink thoroughly after.

Peppafrig · 21/04/2020 18:54

I couldn't be mean enough to say no to a fellow human who was clearly in discomfort. It's human nature to want to help someone in need .

Mel0Dram4 · 21/04/2020 18:55

I don’t think I could ever refuse someone, but that’s because I had a really traumatic experience once in middle of town with a bad stomach. I literally had nowhere’s to go and shat myself so bad it was honestly the worst day of my life :( I would never put someone else through that!!

AgentProvocateur · 21/04/2020 18:57

I’d have said yes. Poor guy must have been desperate to ask. And with all the usual places like pubs closed at the moment. I can’t imagine denying anyone the use of my toilet.

Popcat120 · 21/04/2020 20:48

As a partner of someone with ibd, who was sacked from his job because someone wouldn't let him use a toilet, and he had no other choice and no time to go anywhere else but behind bins..... How degrading for someone who's clearly suffering.
Id have said yes, and then cleaned it like hell when they had gone.

TrickyKid · 21/04/2020 20:54

I would think he was desperate if he asked. I would've let him use the downstairs loo then cleaned it.

ilovecakeandwine · 21/04/2020 20:56

I think I'd have said yes ? He must of been desperate to ask and tbh where can he go ?
Cafes / pubs / restaurants shut , he could of found a supermarket but then he'd have to walk to the front of the queue and ask to go to the loo by that time he could of had a accident .
I know it's not ideal but ask him to not touch anything and clean toilet afterwards. It must of been a emergency. I can see why others would of said no though .
Poor guy !

nicky7654 · 21/04/2020 20:58

I would have definitely said yes! I have been desperate many times so know what it's like.

Hello1290 · 21/04/2020 20:59

Yes I would have but we do have a downstairs loo. I know you are worried about CV - I'm sure the delivery driver is too. We are lucky they are still delivering.

GinWithASplashOfTonic · 21/04/2020 21:00

Yanbu - normal circumstances yes but not now. Don't have an easily accessible loo I.e cloakroom near the door. And I'm on the self isolating vulnerable list

Barbararara · 21/04/2020 21:04

I wouldn’t let a strange man into my home if I were alone or alone with the dc (regardless of the legal position)

ExpletiveDelighted · 21/04/2020 21:14

I'm sure the legal thing wouldn't apply at home, but having it circulated at work did make me realise that drivers are probably suffering more than usual with this at the moment.
