So we have established that Mrs Browns Boys is definitely the worst UK sitcom of all time, but now it’s time to flip it around and see what people think of as the best UK sitcom of all time.

Same rules as before (and yes, for the purpose of this thread Ireland does count). Looking forward to seeing what people’s suggestions are

and yes I will do results again at the end!!

103 messages and no one liked "Spaced" ?

Wow - I really am just as weird as at school then ....

AuntyClockWise · 18/04/2020 17:31

Outnumbered. Absolutely.

Violetparis · 18/04/2020 17:32

The Office
The League of Gentlemen
Fleabag

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 18/04/2020 17:33

Cabin Pressure - still funny no matter how often I listen to it.
I liked Outnumbered. Drop The Dead Donkey, Blackadder, Gavin & Stacey and Red Dwarf in the early years.

drigon · 18/04/2020 17:33

I like Blackadder, The Good Life and Peep Show. The last two especially.

RuffleCrow · 18/04/2020 17:34

Oops, forgot Spaced @dgrossetti - another of my all time faves. Every line is memorable/ quotable.

SpeedofaSloth · 18/04/2020 17:34

Count Arthur Strong

tanqueray10 · 18/04/2020 17:34

The Office. Still hilarious and This Country is just as funny! Kurtan is Gareth Keenan mark 2!

ChewChewIsMySpiritAnimal · 18/04/2020 17:35

This country. bloody hilarious.

nuttymomma · 18/04/2020 17:36

Only fools and Horses

sociallydistained · 18/04/2020 17:36

British The Office!

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 18/04/2020 17:37

Oh yes forgot The League of Gentlemen if that counts (but I'm not sure it does) and Count Arthur Strong on R4 rather than the telly.

grafittiartist · 18/04/2020 17:37

So many- but am going for....
one foot in the grave!!

tiredanddangerous · 18/04/2020 17:37

Father Ted and Gavin and Stacey are properly laugh out loud funny.

I also love the Vicar of Dibley and thought Mum was very well written and incredibly well acted.

Bits of Outnumbered are hilarious, although the earlier series are much better than the later ones. It wasn’t as funny once the kids grew up.

I’m not sure I could pick a favourite Blush

DGRossetti · 18/04/2020 17:39

Great Sitcoms are of their time. Til Death Us Do Part in its early and forever wiped episodes was a social revolution. The nerve it touched was too raw, and far too many people saw Alf Garnett as a hero rather than the grotesque bigit the actor and writer portrayed him as so brilliantly.

As tragically lame as it became, "Only Fools and Horses" did start as quite a deep commentary on the Britain Thatcher was making. Certainly the very first series. Or am I misremembering ?

Trisha01 · 18/04/2020 17:39

Butterflies
Watched it as a child in the 1970s and I still love it today. Fabulous script and acting.

isabellerossignol · 18/04/2020 17:39

Yes Minister. So rare that something stands the test of time so well.

pinkblanchmange · 18/04/2020 17:40

Blackadder - the last episode is a masterpiece

Sparklingbrook · 18/04/2020 17:42

DH has been revisiting some sitcoms of old and they just aren't funny any more. Sad To The Manor Born, Robin's Nest, George & Mildred, The Good Life, One Foot in the Grave etc.

BikeRunSki · 18/04/2020 17:44

@isabellrossignol - I’ve been watching it again recently. I’ve worked for Defra for the last 15 years, which adds a whole extra layer of appreciation. So close to the bone!

Ellmau · 18/04/2020 17:46

Dad's Army, very closely challenged by Yes Minister.

yearinyearout · 18/04/2020 17:51

I'm torn between two Scottish wonders, Still Game and two doors down. Love them both. Does Gavin and Stacey count as a sit com, or a comedy drama series? if so that would be a contender for me.
