So we have established that Mrs Browns Boys is definitely the worst UK sitcom of all time, but now it’s time to flip it around and see what people think of as the best UK sitcom of all time.

Same rules as before (and yes, for the purpose of this thread Ireland does count). Looking forward to seeing what people’s suggestions are

and yes I will do results again at the end!!

We watched the first two episodes of Friday Night Dinner last night after recommendations here and it is brilliant. Haven’t laughed so much in ages. Thank you @SkippyDies and others. I have hearing loss and rarely wear my hearing aids at home - DH says it’s like watching our home life...

In at no. 1: The Office.

Closely followed by Fawlty Towers, Extras, and Gavin & Stacey.

Honourable Mention also for Green Wing.

Pelleas · 28/04/2020 21:06

Just checking back to see if there are full results yet!

Viviennemary · 28/04/2020 21:09

I think Porridge. But Dads Army and Father Ted too. All three head and shoulders above everything else. Except Fawlty Towers.

Deathraystare · 29/04/2020 08:38

I think Father Ted.

However, does anyone else remember the series with Arthur Lowe. He was the friend of a not very 'Vicary' Vicar. Arthur lowe was quite bossy. He would tell his wife she put too much vanilla in the cakes. His daughter was told off that she needed more colour (I presume he meant make up).

A group of church biddies (Mothers' union or young wives) made the mistake of asking what they could do to help the vicar and he got them up on the roof mending the tiles! The Vicar could never remember his wife's name and Arthur Lowe would always provide it "Jane".

Tezza1 · 29/04/2020 08:55

Yes, Minister/Prime Minister
Fawlty Towers
Dads' Army

pointythings · 29/04/2020 09:48

I also love Mulberry, only ran for a very little while but it was funny and sweet.
