So we have established that Mrs Browns Boys is definitely the worst UK sitcom of all time, but now it’s time to flip it around and see what people think of as the best UK sitcom of all time.

Same rules as before (and yes, for the purpose of this thread Ireland does count). Looking forward to seeing what people’s suggestions are

and yes I will do results again at the end!!

Cold Feet is not a sitcom. Yes, it has funny bits, but so does Corrie. Neither is a sitcom.

Dinner Ladies gets my vote as the best, but I also love The Good Life, Phoenix Nights and Gavin & Stacey.

Anyone on here work for an MP?

I was offered a job about three weeks ago but I have to go through security clearance. Any idea how long it takes under normal circumstances - I'd imagine it'll take longer in these times.

I don't want to keep ringing to find out if there is any news!!

Thank you.

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 18/04/2020 16:07

OMG so difficult.
Careful Now/Down with this sort of thing VS Street Countdown 🤔
I think IT Crowd just edges it
(But I think Father Ted will win)

PajamasnoDramas · 18/04/2020 16:09

Father Ted
Yes, minister

And surely Ever decreasing circles,
The Good life and 2 point 4 children may be worth a mention (but not nomination)?

Likefootball · 18/04/2020 16:10

Dad's Army or Only Fools and Horses.

Lllot5 · 18/04/2020 16:11

Ever decreasing circles

"Is" or "Was?"

Great Sitcoms are of their time. Til Death Us Do Part in its early and forever wiped episodes was a social revolution. The nerve it touched was too raw, and far too many people saw Alf Garnett as a hero rather than the grotesque bigit the actor and writer portrayed him as so brilliantly.

More recently, there has been the endless cuts made to Only Fools And Horses to make it acceptable to a 21st century audience. Jokes that were subversive of racism in their day become unsayable in a world where racism is no longer pervasive.

And you must give your definition: A sitcom is recorded live in front of a live audience whose laughter is part of the recording.

So Derry Girls and The End of the F**ing World sadly do not qualify.

But to answer the Question, Best Sitcom Evah is and was Fawlty Towers.

But if we're doing PR rather than FMTP then can I also have in order:
Yes Minister/Prime Minister
Green Wing
Fleabag
Mum

Devlesko · 18/04/2020 16:24

The Good life.
Yes Prime Minister/ Minister.
Fawlty Towers.
Dads Army
Bread
Only Fools and Horses.

I'm not including non sitcom programmes, like comedy sketch shows.

campion · 18/04/2020 16:25

Porridge is up there. Ronnie Barker comedy genius.
