Baby Daniel?

I'm helping DSis look at baby names (at her request, I'm not being pushy) and was amazed to see Daniel is way up at the top of most popular boys names.

I have never met a Dan / Danny / Daniel under 30 and I work with the public and meet A LOT of people, never heard of anyone naming their new baby Daniel. Is it a regional thing? We're in the SW and it's all Caspian and Reuban around here.

I know lots of baby Daniels in NI.

Sexnotgender · 15/04/2020 09:52

I know one and it was on my baby list for DS who is one.

Thatbloodybear · 15/04/2020 09:56

Are you in NI Sexnotgender?

I think it's a lovely name BTW, just suprised that it's so popular as I've not met any.

I didn’t realise it was still popular, there are none in my DC’s classes nor have I heard of any at toddler groups. It’s very 1980s/90s and dated imo.

Dieu · 15/04/2020 09:59

I don't mind it as a name, although it is a bit wet.

Sexnotgender · 15/04/2020 10:02

No I’m in Scotland.

TheVanguardSix · 15/04/2020 10:03

We have a 5-year-old neighbour's child is called Daniel.
And DS(18) went to school with a few Daniels.
I don't find it dated at all. It's a classical Biblical name like Benjamin, Joshua, Jacob.

dontgobaconmyheart · 15/04/2020 10:09

I have a sibling named it in his 30's. He just gets called Dan, none of my siblings like their names at all. I changed mine. It wasn't anything weird, just a bit shit and I never really gelled with it. My parents managed to somehow pick fairly normal names and still get it wrong in each instance..

WhentheRabbitsWentWild · 15/04/2020 10:23

I only ever came across 1 Daniel in my 55 years and that was some 30 odd years ago

BearSoFair · 15/04/2020 10:24

DS2 (10) has it as his middle name, and two Daniels in his class.
DS1 (18) had 4 in his year at secondary!

I don't know any baby/toddler Daniels though now that you mention it.

happymummy12345 · 15/04/2020 10:25

My son is 4 and a half and is called Daniel, never shortened to Dan or Danny as I don't like either of those

happymummy12345 · 15/04/2020 10:26

It was the only boys name we liked

Thisisshit4567 · 15/04/2020 10:28

I have a Daniel, he's 11. There's a Danny in his year at school but no other Daniels. He gets called Duck or Ducky at school anyway, no idea why!

GoldenHoops · 15/04/2020 10:28

I've got a Daniel (Dan) In his school there are 4 other Daniels.

CigarsofthePharoahs · 15/04/2020 10:29

I have one.

happystory · 15/04/2020 10:30

It was on my list! I currently know a 10yo, a18yo and a 29yo. Great name.

allaboardthesinkingship · 15/04/2020 10:36

Urgh I just find this name soooooooooo boring

Teabaseddiet · 15/04/2020 10:38

My kids have 5-6 friends called Daniel. They're in primary school. I'm in NW England.

Barton10 · 15/04/2020 10:40

It was on my list but I had a girl who is now 25. There were a lot of Daniels being born at that time.

OnlyJudyCanJudgeMe · 15/04/2020 10:41

I know a good few here in Scotland.

DeeAn · 15/04/2020 10:43

My husband and my brother are Daniels - what are the chances of that .... it's a beautiful name and if I have a son it will be a second name x

isittheholidaysyet · 15/04/2020 10:46

3 in my son's year 6 class.

We know quite a few others under age 18.

Enough4me · 15/04/2020 10:46

It's ok and I've come across it in the SW. Does she like it?

I think it's a classic name, not boring or wet at all.
