Fatter or fitter in lockdown?

I have put on 3lbs in the last couple of weeks, not really surprising given I’ve been drinking almost every evening and munching my way through masses of chocolate and crisps. Lunch is usually a salad but I’ve been eating more sandwiches. Initially, feeling so shocked by recent events I turned to the fridge/cupboard for comfort.

However, I also had a go at joe wicks with the kids (ow) have been out for a couple of runs and have done a few bike rides, which is more exercise than I would usually do too.

Just wondered if the majority were finding in this time of static they are getting heavier or cracking on with C25K or home workouts as they’re ten a penny, and getting fitter?

I find myself switching between thinking fuck it, if I put on a bit of weight and that’s all I have to contend with during all of this then who cares, but then feeling the expansion of my belly rolls getting hot and sweaty on my thighs and thinking this needs to stop!

I’m not drinking in the week any more and cutting back on snacks, but devil on my shoulder keeps popping up; “go on love, treat yourself, need to have something nice in all this shite. Have some chocolate, go on.”

Might get the kettlebells out this afternoon.

Fitter - we set out with good eating habits from the start, all home cooked, lots of fruit and vegetables. Children have been policing a 'one snack a day' policy.
Getting out on a good cycle ride or walk a day plus more exercise in the garden.

Fatter... just rejoined slimming world online today!

Ninkanink · 16/04/2020 10:38

We always eat home cooked, fresh fruit and veg, yada yada yada, but we like lots of good food and wine so you know...it all adds up. I’m certainly not going to spend my lockdown life counting calories and berating myself or others for wanting to have a little (or a lot) of what makes us feel good!

Fitter. I am exercising hard for 30 minutes every day, inside as I am vulnerable.

I am also having a glass of wine every day which I don't normally do but I think I am eating less than usual.

Same food as normal as I cook everything from scratch anyway. The only difference food wise is that I usually buy a nice loaf of bread once a week and use my bread maker once a week.

I have switched to using the bread maker exclusively. A local artisan bakery is delivering where I live but I figure not everyone has a bread maker.

I have got some jeans on today that fitted me last summer but were too tight around December time - they fit again. I can feel my shape changing!

Struggling due to laziness and complacency before lockdown and now struggling because I can't pop out for walks anymore.

And vodka o'clock at 9pm sharp is not helping. Another bad habit!

Must get back on the wagon.

Fitter: less grazing as I'm limiting snacks to make our shops last longer, eater better as I've got more time to cook, doing Joe Wicks every morning plus a walk (or run when I can find a quiet time outdoors) ever day. Avoiding buying too much booze as I think that's the only way to limit my lockdown drinking! I've nearly lost half a stone...

FourEyesGood · 16/04/2020 11:05

Fatter (from overeating and constant snacking) but also fitter (from doing Joe Wicks’ PE lesson every morning).

Really pleased to read that PPs think it’s probably OK for me to go out for a run on my own even if I’ve taken DS for a walk already. This could definitely help my sanity as well as my fitness!

Avocadosareace · 16/04/2020 11:07

Definitely fatter. Had to give up an active job and I've mostly been sitting on my bum stuffing my face
Only exercise when I go to the shops or to let DD run around outside.

Mumski45 · 16/04/2020 11:16

Fitter , no weight loss as I am grazing but it's healthy stuff like fruit and nuts. Fitter because I am cycling on indoor bike every day so burning about 900 extra calories a day whereas before lockdown I was cycling maybe 2-3 times a week but the weather wasn't really nice enough for very long rides.

bigbluebus · 16/04/2020 11:19

Fatter. I usually go to the gym 3 x per week plus yoga once and usually a 5/6 mile walk at the weekend. Now I'm doing between 3-5 mile walks most days but it just doesn't seem to be enough as the rest of the time I'm at home doing not much.
I have also got into the bad habit of buying chocolate every time i find myself in a shop. I 'inadvertently ' put a box of 12 cream eggs in my trolley at the supermarket before Easter (didn't think there were so many in it as I quickly grabbed it off an aisle end). I'm definitely eating more crap due to boredom. We have also been drinking more as we have been doing lots of 'pub' quizzes in the evening and DH doesn't seem to be able to do these without pouring a beer/wine! ( We usually do real pub quizzes once a fortnight).

Blobby10 · 16/04/2020 11:24

Definitely fatter but have a higher cardio fitness!! This is because I am eating junk food for England but also missing my normal daily gym workout where I burn around 500 calories. As I'm also in work (engineering company) I am still sitting down all day but by the time I get home in the evening it takes too much effort to do anything. fitness based (that's why I work out at 5am normally but can't do that without my gym!) However I AM cycling every other evening for around 20 miles burning around 700 calories and getting faster on my bike!

cologne4711 · 16/04/2020 11:34

A bit fatter. I am still going out for a run every other day but not as far and getting much less of the incidental exercise like walking round the shops or walking to the station when going to meetings. Trying to eat a bit less.

sociallydistained · 16/04/2020 11:35

Good to see so many people are doing more exercise! I had 3 weeks of bad eating but have really cut that back now and focusing on spending more time (I've got it!) making healthy meals and using MFP and hopefully I'll start to see the benefits and be fitter and slimmer for when this is over 🤞🏼

Massivejugs · 16/04/2020 11:55

Good to see so many people are doing more exercise!

Even though I am working full time I have got more time and more energy, I am sleeping better too!

DMCWelshcakes · 16/04/2020 12:32

I was doing really well - eating sensibly, losing 2lbs a week, exercising at least 5 days a week.

Now I have Covid-19 and I've been in bed since Saturday, eating all the carbs in the world. I fear I may have undone all my good work. I'd lost 2.5 stones so I really need to stop the rot before I end up back where I started.
