Fatter or fitter in lockdown?

I have put on 3lbs in the last couple of weeks, not really surprising given I’ve been drinking almost every evening and munching my way through masses of chocolate and crisps. Lunch is usually a salad but I’ve been eating more sandwiches. Initially, feeling so shocked by recent events I turned to the fridge/cupboard for comfort.

However, I also had a go at joe wicks with the kids (ow) have been out for a couple of runs and have done a few bike rides, which is more exercise than I would usually do too.

Just wondered if the majority were finding in this time of static they are getting heavier or cracking on with C25K or home workouts as they’re ten a penny, and getting fitter?

I find myself switching between thinking fuck it, if I put on a bit of weight and that’s all I have to contend with during all of this then who cares, but then feeling the expansion of my belly rolls getting hot and sweaty on my thighs and thinking this needs to stop!

I’m not drinking in the week any more and cutting back on snacks, but devil on my shoulder keeps popping up; “go on love, treat yourself, need to have something nice in all this shite. Have some chocolate, go on.”

Might get the kettlebells out this afternoon.

Both. Eating like a labrador but also started daily yoga and running (ok, jogging v v slowly).

ladypete · 15/04/2020 14:45

I should clarify, I went to weigh myself yesterday and am 3-4lb up from my happy weight. So it’s not masses but I need to keep it in check!

wiltingflower · 15/04/2020 14:50

Also fatter also because I'm eating more each day!

Fatter.
Eating more because normally I don’t have time to eat at work

Baking as something to do ( and the boy likes it)

Drinking most nights because I can and I don’t have to drive to work at 6am.

Much less stressed and enjoying getting a tan.

NothingIsWrong · 15/04/2020 15:20

Fitter. I've ended up being on an on call rota that I wouldn't normally have to cover which has drastically reduced my alcohol consumption. I'm doing a HIIT workout online every day and getting 10,000 steps in every day as well. 11lb lighter so far

PippaPegg · 15/04/2020 15:23

Fatter. Taking more very long walks every day to tire out the toddler. But steadily gaining despite that. Maybe due to being less stressed out overall?

MotherWol · 15/04/2020 15:26

Yeah, weirdly, both. I'm missing my usual cycle to work, but I'm trying to go out for a bike ride most days as it's nice to get some alone time. I've been doing workout videos and I can see the effects on my stomach and arms. I'm not snacking as much - I used to snack all the time in the office because I was bored - but I'm probably drinking more often, and there's often chocolate in the evenings. We'll see where it all ends up.

Minesril · 15/04/2020 15:55

Had a c section 3 weeks ago so the only exercise I'm allowed to do is walking. I was working out throughout my pregnancy (the first Joe Wicks was the day before my section!) so I'm finding it hard. They are combining the six week check with the first jabs appointment as well, so I have to wait for eight weeks before getting the ok from the dr (5 weeks to go Sad)
Breastfeeding has made the baby weight disappear though - i weigh less now than at the start of pregnancy! Grin

It’s a right old mix then, nice one to those getting fitter (I hope to fall in this range) and to everyone, without sounding like Oprah, I think we are all just doing our best. Except I need to do better, at not drinking and wolfing down chocolate and crisps.

both here too. Am running loads, cycling, doing Jillian Michaels and yoga at home. Can see the improvement in my stamina and speed and also in my muscle tone.

I'm also eating a lot of home cooked meals, lunches, home baked bread and cakes and drinking wine with my evening meal every day. I have decided to rein it in a little bit this week.

Bodie83Nahla · 15/04/2020 16:23

Initially fatter as spent the first couple of weeks of staying at home eating more snacks and takeaways. But decided to get it in check as would like to emerge from all of this healthier! So I've cut down on sugar intake and refined carbs, eating loads of fruit and veg each day and limited treats/chocolate in evening. Usual amount of exercise - yoga every day plus 10-15000 steps.

lemontreebird · 15/04/2020 17:11

Fitter and with more muscles. Was on a diet anyway and now I've just added more exercise in.

Bumfuzzled · 15/04/2020 17:23

Fitter. I’ve been doing slimming world since November and lost 2 stones. Since lockdown I’ve been doing the fast 800 on and off and lost a fair bit more - not sure how much because my scales don’t work. I feel much slimmer though.

I’m not sure if it’s a healthy state of mind but I’m finding the control of my eating is helping me get through the turmoil of the situation. It’s one less thing to worry about.

Yellredder · 15/04/2020 17:24

Fitter I guess. I have to low carb, so always conscious of what I'm eating and I've not been eating any more than usual. But I have been going out for a walk every day, which is great! I usually only get a walk in a couple of times a week. Weather has helped immensely!

Ninkanink · 15/04/2020 17:25

Haven’t RTFT but I’m definitely going to be fatter. Probably by at least half a stone. Doesn’t bother me - I’m enjoying a holiday/mini-moon and I’m going to eat, drink and be merry.

sociallydistained · 15/04/2020 17:31

I am getting fitter AND fatter lol. I'm deadly serious too 🤦🏻‍♀️ Today I got through Les Mills Grit Plyo and trust me it's insanely hard! I've built up my fitness immensely by working out hard and doing up to 3 hours of exercise a day and 20k+ steps but unfortunately I had slipped into my binge eating habits and especially at Easter, was out of control. I gained 5lb. 2 days ago I decided enough is enough and started calorie counting and have no junk left in the house and it's going well so far

... so hopefully eventually just fitter

Beautiful3 · 15/04/2020 17:33

Fitter.

Goatinthegarden · 15/04/2020 17:37

Pre-pandemic I was losing my winter weight of a couple of lbs a week and was 2lbs off my goal weight.

Since then, I’ve put 1lb back on and I’m just about managing to stay static. I’m controlling my eating pretty well and I’m getting a good cardio workout in each day. But I am eating slightly more than I was before and I’m not having the benefit of being on my feet all day! Urgh.

Delatron · 15/04/2020 17:42

Hmmm. Pre lockdown I used to do about 25,000 steps a day. School run, running, taking the dog out and a very active job. Therefore I could just about get away with eating quite a bit.

Steps have dropped to about 11,000 despite still running. I’m just not as active. Home schooling and not being out and about all day.

Boredom and drinking more isn’t helping.

But I do exercise most days. Need to cut out all the treats and drinking!

mum2jakie · 15/04/2020 17:43

I'm not eating so much shit as not in the office where people are always bringing in cakes, biscuits and doughnuts! I'm trying to cut out sugar and crisps while at home and have been going out for a walk once a day. Not sure of any impact yet but hopefully I won't be fatter!

MissMogwai · 15/04/2020 17:43

Fatter 😩 I'd lost 14lb prior to the lockdown and was on target to lose some more for my wedding in May.

Now the weddings postponed, I'm working from home and DP's swanning about on furlough making bacon butties and all sorts, so it's all gone to hell in a hand cart.

I am doing a 3 mile walk every morning and trying to up it. I've made a concerted effort to eat better this week and not snack as much.

Ragwort · 15/04/2020 17:48

Fitter - at least two on line workouts each day plus a 4-5 mile walk but still eating and drinking too much. Shame as if I could stick to the low carb 'diet' (which I know works very well) I could lose my excess weight, but I am definitely fitter with more energy.

peony68 · 15/04/2020 17:48

Fitter , have lost five and a half stone over the last eighteen months . As soon as we went into lock down I made a promise to myself that I would not go back to where I was before , so have kept to my healthy eating / exercise routine ridgidly . It's been tough as have husband and two teens home all day eating endlessly , but I feel really proud of myself .

LuluJakey1 · 15/04/2020 17:52

Fitter - have lost 8 lbs and am walking miles every day. Was up at 5 am with DS2 who is teething. Put him in his buggy and walked 4 miles along the seafront. It was lovely , dawn broke, he was fast asleep, I saw 1 jogger. Walked 3 miles with all 3 DC and DH thus afternoon and have gardened. Dieting too. DH has lost 12 lbs.We aren't eating junk or eating out.

Bloodybridget · 15/04/2020 17:53

I'll be fatter, definitely, but possibly fitter as we're doing Pilates or some other form of exercise, plus a walk, every day.
