Fatter or fitter in lockdown?

I have put on 3lbs in the last couple of weeks, not really surprising given I’ve been drinking almost every evening and munching my way through masses of chocolate and crisps. Lunch is usually a salad but I’ve been eating more sandwiches. Initially, feeling so shocked by recent events I turned to the fridge/cupboard for comfort.

However, I also had a go at joe wicks with the kids (ow) have been out for a couple of runs and have done a few bike rides, which is more exercise than I would usually do too.

Just wondered if the majority were finding in this time of static they are getting heavier or cracking on with C25K or home workouts as they’re ten a penny, and getting fitter?

I find myself switching between thinking fuck it, if I put on a bit of weight and that’s all I have to contend with during all of this then who cares, but then feeling the expansion of my belly rolls getting hot and sweaty on my thighs and thinking this needs to stop!

I’m not drinking in the week any more and cutting back on snacks, but devil on my shoulder keeps popping up; “go on love, treat yourself, need to have something nice in all this shite. Have some chocolate, go on.”

Might get the kettlebells out this afternoon.

Fatter (pregnant)

pomegranatefizz · 15/04/2020 09:26

Fitter, have been running 3/4 times a week and doing some yoga and online classes like body pump/combat and I've not been overeating at all. I was already sticking to a healthy diet and going to the gym a lot before this and really didn't want to lose control of that as well as everything else this lockdown brings!

kalinkafoxtrot45 · 15/04/2020 09:28

Fitter. Doing LONG walks and staying low carb. I’m determined not to let the lockdown undo what I’ve already achieved. Plus I have some health problems that would get worse if I dropped the ball.

Fatter or fitter in lockdown?

I'd been walking or using the rower every day, and mildly dieting (mostly cutting out carbs with dinner) from January and had been steadily losing ~0.5 kilos a week. Now I'm not walking as much and eating differently (local suppliers ... good stuff but a bit heavier than ideal) that's plateaued and I need to be careful not to start gaining again. Ideally I'd be doing 5 miles walk a day, rather than 5km.

tectonicplates · 15/04/2020 09:31

@ItsAlrightItsASecret Same here - I've lost 5lb because all the restaurants are closed! No office cake, no wasting money at Pret, no buying snacks on the way home. And yes we have baked cakes and even ordered a couple of pizzas, but still lost weight as the rest of our home cooking is so much healthier. Yoga a couple of times a week, a walk every day, longer walks at weekends.

I have dusted off my Jillian Michaels DVDs as I assumed I'd need them, but really haven't felt the need as I seem to be doing well anyway.

middleager · 15/04/2020 09:34

I've put on two stone in the last few years. My BMI is around 29/30.

Since lockdown I've been trying to watch my eating, but it's hard.

Yesterday I read that those with BMIs above 30 are more at risk of complications with C19, so that has panicked me into trying harder.

DeadBod · 15/04/2020 09:34

Fitter. I've been doing some sort of online exercise routine every day, a mixture of yoga, weights and cardio. I'm challenging myself to get my 10k steps every day this week as I've been lacking in that department.

TillyTheTiger · 15/04/2020 09:34

Fatter and fitter here... I've been doing 30 Day Shred, zoom sessions with a personal trainer and lots of Just Dance with my 3yo but I've also been eating a LOT of chocolate and bread and icecream!

Pinkarsedfly · 15/04/2020 09:35

Fatter. I’m an emotional eater, plus I’ve been drinking much too much. Blush

It stops today. I lost a stone before all this started and I reckon most of it is back. Plus I’m sick of waking up feeling like shit.

Time to take some control back.

BillyAndTheSillies · 15/04/2020 09:38

Both, I'm getting fitter because I'm spending 45 minutes on the cross trainer and then walking 10,000 steps outside during the afternoon.

But I'm also stressed and bored so cancelling out any deficit by eating. I've redownloaded the weight watchers app to make me more accountable - it's kept me away from DS's Easter treats at least.

HelenaJustina · 15/04/2020 09:39

Fitter. Eating less as saving food for the children. Have time to run 3 times a week rather than 2. Cycling to work when I have to go in (key worker on a rota) as roads quiet enough to make it safe. Joe Wicks with the children during term time. No drinking alcohol mid-week rule still stands in our house (unless a celebration or really shit day)

Not really losing weight but definitely changing shape/fat to muscle ratio.

Bluewater1 · 15/04/2020 09:43

Fatter. I am eating rubbish.....

Chinks123 · 15/04/2020 09:49

Fitter. Lost a stone since February, and was supposed to be going on holiday Sad obviously cancelled but I’m not using that as an excuse to put back on. No takeaways in over two months, and now I can’t even eat out so my challenge is just not to snack.

wowfudge · 15/04/2020 09:50

After the first couple of weeks I cut back on the drinking as coupled with the stress I had a marked increase in migraines which were making me feel worse.

JellyfishandShells · 15/04/2020 09:53

I'm experiencing both as well - fatter, in that I'm eating properly now ( had had period of extreme stress and lost weight quickly that I didn't need to lose - that particular stress is out of sight out of mind atm) and fitter, in that I used to do a circuits class or swim 3 or 4 times a week and now I am doing a regular routine of following a workout for strength and stretching in the morning and having a power walk or fast bike ride for cardio in the evening.

Also doing facials and taking care of nails and feet properly.

Would be a vision of glowing beauty if you ignored my hair (I am )

ColleysMill · 15/04/2020 09:55

Oooo probably fatter though its more that Ive lost tone and definition.

Usually i gym 5-6 times a week and i am really missing it. Weight wise i am exactly the same as i was before lockdown though i feel fatter in myself.

Managed well the first 2 weeks with home workouts, fell off the wagon last week, right back on it this week though

Thelnebriati · 15/04/2020 09:56

Fitter, I've lost over half a stone, maybe because I've started using weights instead of my usual exercise routine. I'm wearing my old size 14 jeans today, haven't been able to get into them for over 2 years.

Verily1 · 15/04/2020 09:57

I’m eating a lot more and still working so no time for exercise. I’m doing a daily walk but that’s not enough to counter the extra food.

Notonthestairs · 15/04/2020 09:58

@itssquidstella - thank you. I have been wondering whether I could go out alone and just spotted someone with similar issues on another thread that does just that.
Will be lovely to have 30 mins alone!

gospelsinger · 15/04/2020 09:58

Also both. Making sure I get my daily excercise, but also lunch with the family tends to be more than what I would eat by myself. Being in the house always makes me eat more as the fridge is just there.

AuntieMarys · 15/04/2020 09:58

About the same. Miss my 4 times a week in the gym and spin but have been exercising daily. Also 5km walk daily.
I am trying to eat as well as I can....and keeping drinking to 4 nights...no wine, just gin.
No crisps, cakes, biscuits, bread, chocolate which to be fair I didnt eat before lockdown.
Cheese is my downfall.

Beechview · 15/04/2020 09:59

The same!
I’m still failing at eating healthily but still managing to do some daily exercise.
I’ve decided to lose 10lbs as that seems a manageable amount to lose.

OntheWaves40 · 15/04/2020 10:01

Both!
I’ve been home a month and I put on 6lb in first couple of weeks and now I’ve lost the 6lb due to anxiety the past couple of weeks.

Tigersneeze · 15/04/2020 10:03

Fatter.
because I hate exercise and the lockdown is a welcome excuse. my corona couture is elastic waistbands only which conveniently disguises the lovehandle development. 🤷‍♀️
