Fatter or fitter in lockdown?

I have put on 3lbs in the last couple of weeks, not really surprising given I’ve been drinking almost every evening and munching my way through masses of chocolate and crisps. Lunch is usually a salad but I’ve been eating more sandwiches. Initially, feeling so shocked by recent events I turned to the fridge/cupboard for comfort.

However, I also had a go at joe wicks with the kids (ow) have been out for a couple of runs and have done a few bike rides, which is more exercise than I would usually do too.

Just wondered if the majority were finding in this time of static they are getting heavier or cracking on with C25K or home workouts as they’re ten a penny, and getting fitter?

I find myself switching between thinking fuck it, if I put on a bit of weight and that’s all I have to contend with during all of this then who cares, but then feeling the expansion of my belly rolls getting hot and sweaty on my thighs and thinking this needs to stop!

I’m not drinking in the week any more and cutting back on snacks, but devil on my shoulder keeps popping up; “go on love, treat yourself, need to have something nice in all this shite. Have some chocolate, go on.”

Might get the kettlebells out this afternoon.

Both - I'm exercising every day (yoga with weights or running when my knee is up to it) but I've eaten and drank everything and put on five pounds. Hoping some is muscle!

Fedupandpoor · 15/04/2020 10:05

Fatter Sad All of it is due to alcohol. If I drink, I need to eat before I sleep. Then once I'm awake, I have a hangover and need to eat to get rid of that. Then I'll crack open another beer and it starts again.

But it stops today! I'm doing a 24 hour fast to kick off then onto intermittent fasting and keto. It's the only diet I have ever been able to stick to.

AwfulSomething · 15/04/2020 10:10

Same as usual, always did run and do home workouts, same active job. Swapped the pub for drinking at home and have had a couple of takeaways instead of eating out.

Fitter, we go for a walk on most days. I have cut down on sweets and fatty food overall.

MotherOfAllNameChanges · 15/04/2020 10:12

About the same i think.
But planning to turn that around!!!

HolaWeenie · 15/04/2020 10:13

Fatter and fitter, I'm turning to the cupboards and fridge in boredom. But I'm managing to run 7-10 miles every other day as I have the time.

eurochick · 15/04/2020 10:14

Fatter.

I thought I would use the two hours a day saved by not commuting to exercise but my workload has gone up and expanded to fill any available time. I usually do 8-12k steps on an average day in the office. That has roughly halved, even squeezing in a daily walk.

Thighmageddon · 15/04/2020 10:29

Both fatter and fitter.

I usually walk around 16,000 steps a day so I've been doing couch25k, using the exercise bike and doing strengthening exercises instead.

I've decided to reduce the boredom wine drinking from today though because I feel sluggish. And I'm craving lettuce but dh forgot to buy and on his last shopping trip.

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 15/04/2020 10:40

Managed to just about stay the same, despite my job being very active and giving me little chance to snack. I'm drinking more, but have otherwise been pretty strict about sticking to low-carb and not snacking, and I'm doing PE with Joe every day as well walking with the DC.

Need to keep on top of it though!

SpreadHummusNotHate · 15/04/2020 11:10

Staying the same at the moment, but hoping to emerge from isolation having lost a few pounds Grin - started some home HIIT sessions this week as well as a long walk daily, also cutting right back on alcohol which had crept up the past few weeks. Hoping all this will help!

bluechameleon · 15/04/2020 11:31

Fatter. I've definitely been compensating by making more comfort food and eating a lot more carbs. We've been buying puddings and biscuits every week and baking as well. Hot cross buns and Easter eggs obviously don't help. I'm giving myself until the end of this week, when the bulk of the Easter chocolate will be gone, then going back to my previous eating habits (porridge for breakfast, salad and fruit for lunch, at least half my plate veg for dinner, one small sweet treat a day).

MulticolourMophead · 15/04/2020 12:02

I'm now losing weight. I decided to sign up to Noom, and I'm liking the app, it's really helping with motivation.

I included a workout in the plan choices, so am donig that plus walking to the shops when needed.

TheBitchOfTheVicar · 15/04/2020 12:23

Fitter and slightly less fat: I have been doing a LOT of exercise - running daily as opposed to my usual 3-4 times a week, and cross training daily too. But I have been eating all my calories back, which I have to say has been extremely enjoyable Grin I have lost a grand total of 2lb in the last month; happy with that!

Yogawoogie · 15/04/2020 12:27

Both. I’ve put on weight but that’s a good thing for me and I’m working out more because I have more energy.

onemouseplace · 15/04/2020 12:30

Fatter so far - drinking most evenings, barely leaving the house and while we are eating pretty healthily, I'm also eating a lot.

But, decided to nip that in the bud from yesterday, and am going to focus not on losing any weight, but maintaining fitness so when this is all over I'm not a massive, wheezing, wobbly slob. Plus, I do feel better for getting out for a walk every day and not drinking (every) day.

rarathenoision · 15/04/2020 12:35

Fatter without a doubt. Have downloaded c25k today!

OuterMongolia · 15/04/2020 12:37

Fitter I think. Definitely exercising more, I was trying to eat healthily too but I got a bit de-railed by Easter chocolate Blush

FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack · 15/04/2020 12:40

Fitter. Mostly due to no school pickup near a cafe with the world's best scones and not much chance to sit down since the kids are young enough to need constant supervision.

Now the cafe have started offering deliveries it could all change though Grin

PerplexingWords · 15/04/2020 12:42

Fitter. I've done Joe Wicks every day. It's not much but it is 100% more than I'd do normally.

feelinguseless78 · 15/04/2020 12:52

Fatter. But I genuinely don't know why - I'm regularly getting my 12000 steps a day (pre-covid I average 7k), going for a walk daily, doing Joe wicks 3x per week, not buying tonnes of crap and take out coffees any more and virtually no take aways. Honestly haven't a clue why I'm gaining weight!

FlaskMaster · 15/04/2020 13:18

Fatter. Comfort eating and drinking most evenings have outweighed to drop in fast food. I keep thinking I should sort it out and get slimmer/fitter, but on the other hand the stress and anxiety about everything triggers the food/drink coping/comforting behaviour.

Lonelycrab · 15/04/2020 13:24

Fitter. Been out on the bike most days- off road trails on my mountain bike. My sons just started riding too and can’t get enough of it. I used to barely manage once a month but now 5-6 times a week for around and hour.

I’ve also cut right back on drinking as I was doing that to unhealthy levels before. Now 2/3 nights a week so that’s good too.

CeibaTree · 15/04/2020 14:40

Fitter I think. I'm doing couch to 5k, weight training, and yoga. Things I don't get time to do normally. Also I'm running around after the DC more as they are normally in nursery/pre-school 3 days a week.

wiltingflower · 15/04/2020 14:42

Fatter because my body has changed shape and become larger but also fitter from doing more exercise each day.

ladypete · 15/04/2020 14:43

Fatter.
I used to be on my feet 12 hours a day, and part of my job was extremely active (I was in a musical) so unfortunately for me, no home workout can give my body the exercise it’s used to when I have to stay indoors Sad

I’m genuinely gutted and can feel an ED relapse approaching if I’m honest.
