Who do your children look like?

Lots of time on my hands today so I was going through photos on my phone and was surprised how much our kids look like us. 🤣 As in I can see both me and partner in both of them. My daughter has my dark hair colour and pale skin tone and everyone always says she’s very like me, because of this I think, but I could really see her dad in her in photos taken in the last few months. Similarly my son has his dads blonder hair and everyone says he’s like his dad but I could really see how much he looks like my brother, so obviously that’s my genes.

Both kids have been wondering why I’m looking at them tonight. Weird that I’ve only noticed in photos, maybe certain expressions. Or maybe life’s so busy usually that although I see them everyday, I just haven’t noticed.

They’re both lovely and have both got the best bits of me and my partner, although I’m obviously biased. 😊

Who do your kids look like?

Both of us. We have three and they are so so alike. It changes though and over the years they’ve looked like different ones at different stages. Probably at their most different right now but that’s because of their ages, I think it will change again.

EggBaconBeans · 12/04/2020 22:32

Eldest is like me and youngest is like DH

It's so subjective though - some people say the opposite and DH doesn't think that they look like either of us!

😂

Redcrayons · 12/04/2020 22:37

Both like me but in different ways. They don’t look particularly alike.

I don’t really see it in real life, but I do when I look at photos.

Eldest looks like me. The rest don't really look like either of us but they look like each other!

Equimum · 12/04/2020 22:40

Eldest is very much like me. When he was about 4 and still had fairy long hair, my mum showed a photo of him to an elderly neighbour. She thought it was an old photo of me!

Youngest is very much like DH. His face and body shape are so similar and everyone agrees.

MuseumOfYou · 12/04/2020 22:40

My family genes are very dominant!

My elder DS looks like me in a suit, my two DD's are half sisters but are the spitting image of each other and my sister. My younger DS is just like my DF, and my cousin (my DF's nephew) I'm the image of my DF's sister and I have a niece who looks just like me as a child.

My DH and ex-DH didn't get a look in, with the possible exception of eye colour.

MashedPotatoBrainz · 12/04/2020 22:42

My kids look like DH when they're concentrating or serious and like me when they're laughing and smiling.

Justajot · 12/04/2020 22:42

Ours don't look much like each other, but like DH and I have had our features chopped up and distributed between the two of them. DD1 has DH's eyes, my nose, DH's mouth. DD2 has the exact opposite. DD1 has my face shape, DH's height and my colouring. DD1 is the opposite.

In personality terms DD1 might be like DH, but I didn't know him as a child, so I'm not quite sure. DD2 is a mini me, which makes her really hard to tell off as I know I'd have done exactly the same thing when I was little. I'm not sure if that partly reflects birth order.

I do wonder if it would be hard if both had just turned out to be mini-DHs. I really like seeing both of us in them.

Whatdayisit2 · 12/04/2020 22:44

Eldest is like me. Youngest son is an exact replica of his father in every way. Daughter is a mix of both Smile

MorticiaAddamsIsMyStyleGuru · 12/04/2020 22:46

Our daughter looks like my MIL. They are both beautiful inside and out.

PatchworkElmer · 12/04/2020 22:47

DS has my eyes, but apart from that he’s all DH.

KellyHall · 12/04/2020 22:47

My family's genes are very dominant too!

My niece looks just like I did when I was little. My daughter looks just like my mum did when she was little.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 12/04/2020 22:47

I have only one DS. He doesn't look particularly like me or exh! Sometimes his facial expressions remind me of one of us but he's not a dead ringer for either of us.

Windyatthebeach · 12/04/2020 22:47

I have many dc and none look like me!

CandyflossKid · 12/04/2020 22:48

I've got identical twins.....however one looks like DH and the other looks like my dad

Waxonwaxoff0 · 12/04/2020 22:49

It's funny as well because I have very bright bluey green eyes, ex has bright hazel eyes and DS has the most gorgeous dark brown eyes, nothing like either one of ours! People used to make (so called funny) jokes about ex not being his real dad. Hmm

Titsywoo · 12/04/2020 22:49

My DD looks like DH and DS looks like me. There's a few features from both of us in them but it's mainly. that. I've noticed that a lot with friends that the eldest child looks most like the father and the next child more like the mother.

Floralnomad · 12/04/2020 22:50

Both of them look like me / my side of the family , it would appear to an outsider that the only thing dh contributed was height in the case of ds although I’m 5’8” ( dh and ds both 6’3”) . Dd is only 5’5” so she didn’t even get that . Personality wise they got bits of both of us although probably more of dh .

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 12/04/2020 22:52

Both of them have their dads eyes and distinctive colouring, but my build, face shape, nose and smile.

DramaAlpaca · 12/04/2020 22:54

My eldest son, who's 26, looks like a male version of me, but with blue eyes. Middle son, who's 24, looks a lot like DH, but has hazel-blue eyes like my mother. Youngest DS, 22, looks like a mixture of his older brothers, but more like DH than me.

BogRollBOGOF · 12/04/2020 22:55

Me, very me. Looking at DS2, I know exactly what I would have looked like if I was male Grin DS1 has DH's eye colour, and his face shape is changing with age so I think he will go more DHy as he gets older.

FluffyPinkSocks · 12/04/2020 22:55

They’re a mix of us both but they’re all starting to look like one another. You can tell that all five are siblings. Two of them look like twins but have a two year age gap, same height, hair colour etc but different colour eyes and one has sallow skin. I don’t look like any of my siblings, I never have but do look similar to my parents.

SomethingOnce · 12/04/2020 22:56

People who haven’t seen DP think DD looks like me. DP’s distant family saw the spit of him.

So it depends a bit on who’s looking!

AnneElliott · 12/04/2020 22:56

DS looks like me - so much so that people often comment on it. It drives DH mad!

DS is like DH in personality etc.

motortroll · 12/04/2020 22:57

My kids look mostly like me (strong genes!!) it's a bit tricky as my husband has a huge beard!! But my eldest daughter is like him with face shape and hair (no beard lol) more like me with facial expressions. His eldest daughter (my step daughter) was the spit of him growing up but now looks more of a mix of him and her mother.

My middle girl everyone says is the spit of me but I can see my bro in her so much!

My youngest really is a mini me at her age. You can't tell anything about her paternity from looking at her...,she's annoying like my husband though lol

My husband is adopted and when we met his birth family it was so weird to see his half sisters and their kids looking so like my kids. My eldest is so much more like him than I ever realised. She could pass as his sister's daughter.
