Who do your children look like?

Lots of time on my hands today so I was going through photos on my phone and was surprised how much our kids look like us. 🤣 As in I can see both me and partner in both of them. My daughter has my dark hair colour and pale skin tone and everyone always says she’s very like me, because of this I think, but I could really see her dad in her in photos taken in the last few months. Similarly my son has his dads blonder hair and everyone says he’s like his dad but I could really see how much he looks like my brother, so obviously that’s my genes.

Both kids have been wondering why I’m looking at them tonight. Weird that I’ve only noticed in photos, maybe certain expressions. Or maybe life’s so busy usually that although I see them everyday, I just haven’t noticed.

They’re both lovely and have both got the best bits of me and my partner, although I’m obviously biased. 😊

Who do your kids look like?

DS1 looks like Zac Efron. DS2 looks like a little Charles Kennedy.

catinb0oots · 13/04/2020 00:18

Oh shit just RTFT Blush

Mumshappy · 13/04/2020 00:20

None of my three look particularly like me. The youngest two have my colouring ( blond, blue eyes, medium skin tone). The oldest dd looks like her dad.

DS looked more like his feckless father when he was little. He's 12 now and looks more like me, he's definitely got my bone structure Smile

Having said that, when I showed my boss a picture of him, she said he looks like Putin's love child 😂

qazxc · 13/04/2020 00:22

DD has my hair but otherwise very much like DP. People were always adamant she looked like me though, probably as the hair was her most notable feature ( she had a full head of it at birth); now they are agreeing with me that she does look like DP.

MrsBungle · 13/04/2020 00:24

My dd looks really like my mum which is strange as I don’t think I particularly do! My ds looks both really like ds and also my brother 🤷‍♀️

MrsBungle · 13/04/2020 00:25

Ds looks like ds ffs

MrsBungle · 13/04/2020 00:25

Argh! Dh!

myfav · 13/04/2020 00:26

I thought the DC were all quite different but lockdown had me organising photo albums. It's scary how much they all look the same yet different at the same time. Eldest is the most like me, younger ones more like DH.

MrsSnitchnose · 13/04/2020 00:29

@MrsBungle Got there in the end! Grin

MountainPeakGeek · 13/04/2020 00:45

DS2, until he hit puberty and his face became more masculine/mature was the absolute image of me as a kid (I was often mistaken for a boy Grin )

DS1 looks more like DH than me, but even then it's only really in his face shape, rather than features.

About a year and a half ago I found my DH's dad for him via Ancestry (he'd never known who he was) and we discovered that DS1 (20) is the absolute image of DH's paternal grandfather, other than his hair colour. So much so that when DH's new auntie took her first look at a photo of DS1, she said to her brother (DH's dad) that it was like seeing a ghost!

EveryLifeHasASoundtrack · 13/04/2020 01:15

family members often have very similar mannerisms so even if someone doesn't necessarily look like a parent the way they tilt their head or laugh reminds you of them.

Yes, that’s true. My brother has many mannerisms of my uncle, strangely he’s never spent much time with him.

I’m still enjoying reading through all these.

Ha, both my kids look have a ‘celeb’ that they look very similar to. I won’t say as I know a couple of people on here IRL and they would definitely know it was me if I said.

I have a DS and a DD, ( 5 & 3 ) if you put hats on them so they look like twins

DD is the double of me as a child and DS is the double of me now, they both have my eyes chin and nose

They have their dads hairline and height

I am ridiculously pleased that my genes "won" Grin

DustyMaiden · 13/04/2020 01:23

My 2 DDs, one like me one like DH. One is dark skinned, green eyed, short. The other blond, pale, tall. No one believes they are sisters. DS is a mixture of us both.

Babyroobs · 13/04/2020 01:24

Eldest DS doesn't look like either of us but a few years ago looked the spitting image of dh at the same age.
DS2 looks more like me.
DS3 looks like neither of us- I can see a little of my mum in him.
DD looks very much like me and has the same build etc.

TerrorWig · 13/04/2020 01:28

Step son and my eldest two are the spit of their dad. Put pictures of them at the same age together and they could be brothers. Certain expressions (and personality traits) I see myself in them.

DS3 I don’t think looks like either of us but my friend is always saying how alike we are!

DontTellThemYourNamePike · 13/04/2020 01:44

Everyone in DP's family said my eldest DS looked like one or other of them when he was small. In fact they seemed to get great pleasure out of 'claiming' him as one of them, rushing off to find photos to prove their point. I didn't care who he was like, but felt as though I was being sidelined in some ridiculous way (they have form for this). They've all gone quiet now because he's undeniably the spitting image of me, my brother and my sister. It's spooky sometimes, just catching a glimpse of him and seeing one or other of us right there in that moment. DP thinks the same.

Our youngest is the image of DP, yet his family don't appear to have noticed, probably because of DS's rogue blonde hairGrin

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 13/04/2020 02:02

DS looked like me as a child, but as he has got older he is resembling DH more and more, like his big brothers. Everyone in DH's family ends up looking the same as they age - when DS was little, he couldn't tell the difference between his dad and his uncle (DH's first wife struggled with that too, but that's another story lol)

Echobelly · 13/04/2020 02:12

DD to me looks very like a girly version of my dad, or therefore rather like my dad's late sister. She does have certain aspects that look like my husband somehow as well. She has MIL and SIL's beautiful grey-blue eyes, peachy skintone (I'm deathly pale) and dark brown hair and from somewhere got very thick, dark eyelashes.

DS is very much a mixture of both of us - people have said to both me and DH 'He looks just like you'. Again, colouring from DH's side - his eyes started grey blue, but they are moving towards DH's unusual shade of pale green as he gets older.

DH has very strong features, so I was somehow convinced any kids we had would just look like him, but overall they tend more towards my side. The comment we get most (sometimes from total strangers) is 'Your kids have beautiful eyes'. I wouldn't say DH and I come from notably good-looking families (actually, maybe his is), but both sides do do striking eyes!

Graphista · 13/04/2020 02:27

I've posted about my family's weird mixed up genes before.

Dd looks like the child of my ex and my sister - none of me there at all looks wise, but she has my tongue!

However one of my dns my sisters dc is the spit of me!

Sister and I are nc so someone's having a cosmic joke!

Out of the 3 of us sister takes more for mum, bro for dad, I look like neither! I look like a mix between gran and aunt!

bettybattenburg · 13/04/2020 02:45

A lot of people forgot that family members often have very similar mannerisms so even if someone doesn't necessarily look like a parent the way they tilt their head or laugh reminds you of them

This is the case with my Dd and my cousin, however they have never met.

frenchfancy81 · 13/04/2020 03:18

Simultaneously like both of us and neither of us!! He has a 'look of us' both.

MinnieMountain · 13/04/2020 07:54

DS has my brown eyes and fluffy blonde hair like my DM. He's got DH's head shape and cleft in his chin. Hands like mine.

He's small and skinny like we both were at 6.

beepbeeprichie · 13/04/2020 08:11

DD looks like me and my dad.
DS.... no idea where he came from! Looks nothing like me or DP... or any of our families. Grin W
