Who do your children look like?

Lots of time on my hands today so I was going through photos on my phone and was surprised how much our kids look like us. 🤣 As in I can see both me and partner in both of them. My daughter has my dark hair colour and pale skin tone and everyone always says she’s very like me, because of this I think, but I could really see her dad in her in photos taken in the last few months. Similarly my son has his dads blonder hair and everyone says he’s like his dad but I could really see how much he looks like my brother, so obviously that’s my genes.

Both kids have been wondering why I’m looking at them tonight. Weird that I’ve only noticed in photos, maybe certain expressions. Or maybe life’s so busy usually that although I see them everyday, I just haven’t noticed.

They’re both lovely and have both got the best bits of me and my partner, although I’m obviously biased. 😊

Who do your kids look like?

Eldest looks like me, everyone always says it's like looking at a mini version of me. Youngest looks like her dad.

LongPauseNoReply · 13/04/2020 08:32

DD looks like her father had her alone, there's literally nothing of me in her! She has my sister's eyes but the rest is all her father, who left us when she was 3 btw Hmm

zafferana · 13/04/2020 08:39

DS1 looks like my sister most of all and definitely like my dad's side of the family. He has my colouring (fair). All he got from DH's side is his eye colour and his feet, which look exactly like DH's.

DS2 is the spitting image of my DH as a DC, although he's also fair like me (DH has dark hair). He doesn't look at all like me or my side of the family.

Ds1 is the spitting image of me. If you look at photos of me at the same age it's hard to tell us apart. Ds2 is only 6mo but definitely seems to be more of a mixure!

thaegumathteth · 13/04/2020 08:52

Ds apparently looks like me but I don't see it at all apart from the fact he has my green eyes. He is very pale and blonde whereas I am pale and dark haired. He does look like my side of the family though if that makes sense? can't see anything of dh in him.

Dd doesn't look like either of us as such but definitely takes more after Dh's side. She has coppery hair, dark brown eyes and olivey skin - none of which come from me! Also her hair is straight which amazes me because I always thought my kids would have curly hair like me.

Snaga · 13/04/2020 08:58

My eldest is like a hybrid between my husband's family and my mother's side of the family. There's nothing in her that resembles me at all.

My youngest though is all me and my father's side of the family. The only acknowledgement of my husband's genetic input is her eye colour.

They are chalk and cheese in almost every sense, I'm constantly amazed that they're sisters!

fantasmasgoria1 · 13/04/2020 09:03

My daughter looks 80% like me and my son is 50 - 50. Although neither of them like their father (he was horrifically abusive towards me) and my son always tells people that he looks 100% like me. I don't correct him because it upsets him!

majesticallyawkward · 13/04/2020 09:30

I'm fascinated by genetics and inherited traits. It's been interested to see how my kids have developed physically.

My daughter at 5 has my facial features but dhs head shape, my curly hair but dhs ears, her hands and feet are perfectly scaled down versions of dhs. She weirdly has my dads eyebrows... they were a distinctive shape and sometimes she looks at me and I see him.

My son is only 5 months but he is much more like me, just much cuter and pulls of the chunky legs better 😂 his hands and feet are just like mine, his face and head is very much like my brother as a baby just with ginger instead of blonde hair - we have no idea where the ginger came from as we are all very dark.

A friend of my mum has a granddaughter who like her dad in every way, a perfectly scaled down version of him, but they won't have it said and will scream at anyone who comments on it. It's very strange.

JohnLapsleyParlabane · 13/04/2020 09:35

My eldest looks like a cross between DH's mum and my dad.
The baby looks like DH (right down to the lack of hair).
So far it seems the only things they got from me are attitude, eczema and a lack of volume control.

Bezalelle · 13/04/2020 09:47

This fascinates me so much! Currently expecting our first child, and I am intrigued as to which of us she'll look like, or if some genes from down the generations will surface! DH is mixed race, so it's a total lottery as to whether the baby will inherit some of his Middle Eastern genes, or his Eastern European ones.

I didn't grow up with my biological family, so I've always been fixated by family likenesses!

Scubalubs87 · 13/04/2020 09:52

My son was born the spitting image of his dad, but as a toddler he’s now a complete mix of us both - we’re both very much in the mix. His eyes are mine and huge but his mouth shape and chin are all his dads. When he’s serious and concentrating he is completely me but as soon as he laughs or smiles he turns into his dad. I’m intrigued to see who he’ll favour as grows. I’m pregnant with a little girl and I can’t wait to see who she looks like. I’m hoping she’ll take after me as a toddler, all big eyes and white blonde hair.

DelurkingAJ · 13/04/2020 09:57

DS1 is a mini me for DH, both in looks and personality (their ability to wind each other up is unrivalled). DS2 is much more like me.

HarrietM87 · 13/04/2020 09:57

My DS has my DH’s eyes and nose and hair and my mouth and face/head shape, so he looks very much like both of us. It’s like one of those face merge app results. I think he’s got my DH’s figure - long skinny legs and a short body - but he’s only 2 so time will tell!

spiderlight · 13/04/2020 10:24

My DS has my exact colouring and looks more like my mum than anyone, although I do occasionally see flashes of his cousin on DH's side. When he was a baby, everyone said he looked like DH but I couldn't see it at all Blush

elliejjtiny · 13/04/2020 10:40

4 of mine are very like dh. Ds2 looks like me. Several photos of me aged 11-14ish look like ds2 wearing a wig, it's really weird. Dc3 and dc5 are both blonde when dh and I both have very dark hair.

8misskitty8 · 25/04/2020 00:16

Dd1 looks like I did as a child.
Dd2 Looked like dd1 when she was a baby/toddler then as she got older seemed to be a mix of me and Dh. Both are redheads yet both families are all dark.
They are now 13 and 16 and very alike again. Dd2 has been taller than dd1 for 3 years and look the same age. When dd2 went to high school teachers that had taught dd1 got confused when they saw her and one even checked she was teaching the correct class !

hotstepper4 · 25/04/2020 22:29

DS is a real mixture of us, he has my colouring (ghostly white) he has my eyes, and face shape, but he has exh nose and mouth. He looks more like me face on, but has exh profile! His hair is a mystery, my natural hair colour is dark brown and exh has very dark brown, almost black hair, but DS has light reddish blonde hair. He's 9 so I don't think his hair colour will change much now.

Zisforstripyoss · 25/04/2020 22:39

DC1 is the image of me. She even has the same personality.

DC2 looks like MIL with my nose. Personality wise she's like my grandma.

Connie222 · 25/04/2020 22:43

Me!

Despite having two different fathers, Ds and Dd could be twins (And if there wasn’t an 11 year age gap).

All three of us look so much alike.

CoodleMoodle · 25/04/2020 22:44

Each other! I can't see either of us in DD or DS, but they're very similar to one another. Looking at DS now is like looking at DD, 4ish years ago. Especially from the back as they both had/have wild, curly hair.

When she was little everyone said DD looked like me, but I couldn't see it. Still can't. And nobody ever said it about DS... They both look like their paternal cousins (both boys so more DS than DD), however, so there must be some of DH's genes in there somewhere!

JoshLymanIsHotterThanSam · 25/04/2020 22:59

Dc1-looks like me. (Girl)
dc2-looks like my brother with a bit of my DH thrown in (boy)
Dc3-DH
DC4-is basically my dad Grin
