Who do your children look like?

Lots of time on my hands today so I was going through photos on my phone and was surprised how much our kids look like us. 🤣 As in I can see both me and partner in both of them. My daughter has my dark hair colour and pale skin tone and everyone always says she’s very like me, because of this I think, but I could really see her dad in her in photos taken in the last few months. Similarly my son has his dads blonder hair and everyone says he’s like his dad but I could really see how much he looks like my brother, so obviously that’s my genes.

Both kids have been wondering why I’m looking at them tonight. Weird that I’ve only noticed in photos, maybe certain expressions. Or maybe life’s so busy usually that although I see them everyday, I just haven’t noticed.

They’re both lovely and have both got the best bits of me and my partner, although I’m obviously biased. 😊

Who do your kids look like?

My ds (eldest) - EVERYONE has always said looks like dh. I've never seen it myself, but it has been constant over 24 yrs.
dc2 (a dd) looks a LOT like ds, but lots of people have said she looks like me, rather than dh
dc3 I don't see looking like either of us, (her colouring is different) but, again, other people say all 3 of my dc look like each other.
When I look at photos, I do see glimpses of both of us at different times - I think it is an expression or a look.
People who knew dh as a child think all 3 look like him. People who knew me as a child definintley think dc2 is like me, and then see odd photos or expressions that say I'm like them.

My DD is the absolute spit of me. She gets really sick of everyone saying it! Although when I look at old pics my DS looks like me when I was younger. I feel a bit bad for DH that no one ever comments on his genesBlush!

EveryLifeHasASoundtrack · 12/04/2020 23:05

I’m really enjoying reading these. Genes are funny things. My two looked very alike when they were toddlers but are now quite different. It’s fascinating.

The personality thing is interesting too. My partner and son are both so laid back. It’s infuriating at times although they wonder what me and my daughter stress about so much. 🤣

DD is my double.

DS reminds me of my bro when he was little. Tousled.

They both have the same bone structure as DH

Both blind and blue-eyed

worldweary45 · 12/04/2020 23:07

DD1 facially looks like me but has a completely different build -she has MIL's body shape when you look at old photos

DD2 doesn't look like anyone and you certainly wouldn't pick them out as sisters in a crowd

She's got my hair, her dad's nose, her eyes are like her dad's sister and build is my sister -mouth she's like her cousin on her dad's side

She's a lovely mix of genetics

sunshineandshowers21 · 12/04/2020 23:10

my eldest son is the image of his dad. my youngest son looks a lot like my dad and my dad’s side of the family. my daughter looks pretty much identical to me as a baby, as does my niece. both my boys have my eyes though.

Luzina · 12/04/2020 23:10

1 of my children looks enough like my Dad that people often comment on it. He's not my bio child though, as my ex gave birth to him - we used anonymous sperm donor

Gotakeahike · 12/04/2020 23:11

In terms of face shape and general features my eldest looks like me, my youngest more like dh’s family but personality is a definite mix. Both share distinctive recessive eye and hair color shared by neither me nor dh and the youngest has curly hair, which we don’t really have any idea who that came from. We get lots of comments on the stark overt differences between us and them, but it’s funny that they both got the recessive coloring.

LittleCandle · 12/04/2020 23:13

Both of mine look so like me that when they both got a former teacher of mine at high school, he called them by my name, much to their fury. That isn't unique, as other people I know have recognised my kids because they look so like me. Sometimes, DD1 has a bit of a look of my half brother about her, but I think that is more because they have a very similar selfish personality. Thank goodness I don't have to see XH in them!

AgentCooper · 12/04/2020 23:15

Nobody (me included) thought DS looked anything like me for ages. Family resemblance is really strong in DH’s family and he has had DH’s dark colouring since he was born. But as he’s got older (now 2.5) it’s so clear that his expressions, the way he talks and lots of his personality are all me. Weirdly, he really, really looks like my sister!

Lllot5 · 12/04/2020 23:23

I find this so interesting. Different people can see different Resemblances too. Everyone says my daughter is like me. Two boys look alike but not like either of us parents. My middle son is so like my dad, not only in looks but personality too. They’ve even share the same sense of humour. My dad died when my ds was 7.
I agree it only shows up in photos too sometimes.

rottiemum88 · 12/04/2020 23:27

DS is the absolute image of DH. Funnily enough the one person in the entire universe who can't see it at all is DH. He still believes it's absolute fluke that every person we've ever seen since DS was born has said "wow, he's your double" and says that everyone says that about either mum or dad just to make you feel better Hmm

He does have my blue eyes, although his are a beautiful striking blue rather than the wishy washy grey/blue mine are Grin

mochojoes · 12/04/2020 23:28

A lot of people forgot that family members often have very similar mannerisms so even if someone doesn't necessarily look like a parent the way they tilt their head or laugh reminds you of them.

sniffysnifferson · 12/04/2020 23:29

1 if my children is the spitting image of my sister! And we look nothing alike!

Longdistance · 12/04/2020 23:32

My dd2 looks like me. Dd1 looks like dh. They are polar opposites in looks. Dd2 has olive skin, green eyes and brown hair. Dd1 is pale, blonde, with blue eyes. I’ve been asked if I’m their childminder before 😂

MrsDoylesTeaBags · 12/04/2020 23:38

DS has my husband's beautiful blue eyes and dimples but my bone structure. DHs cousin died at a similar age to DS and sometimes he looks so like him it stops me in my tracks, but then he has the same shy cheeky smile as my cousin.

Its strange the looks and traits they inherited.

Deadringer · 12/04/2020 23:43

Mine all look like my dh and his family, especially when they were little. My eldest has my husband's features, but she does has a look of me in her expressions sometimes.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 12/04/2020 23:46

I would say mine are a mix of us both. My girls look alike and look a lot like my sister, who is very good looking. My niece could easily be mistaken for another sister.

DD1(24) has exactly my body shape: boyish and leggy. I always know what will suit her. DD2 is more like DH’s mum; the same height but with shorter legs and a longer body. She has hips and everything. I am really rubbish at making suggestions for her when we are shopping.

My two boys have exactly DH’s shape, tall and slim with wide shoulders, and move the same way. If I catch one out of the corner of my eye I always think it is DH.

None of out four have our colouring though: I am a redhead, DH was a white blonde child. Our gang range from mousy to Snow White type colouring. And we both have blue eyes; DH’s are amazingly blue. Our kids all have green eyes. Not sure where that comes from.

Nanalisa60 · 12/04/2020 23:50

Both my boys looked like my brother!! Not really like there dad!!

TwoZeroTwoZero · 12/04/2020 23:56

Eldest looks like dh. Youngest looks like dh's niece. Neither look like me at all.

BestZebbie · 13/04/2020 00:00

Our DS looks very much like his uncle, to the point where it is a good job said uncle lives in a different country!

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 13/04/2020 00:07

DD has my colouring and lots of people say she looks like me, but I see DH’s chin and I think she’s going to be taller than me, more like his mum. She also looks a lot like my half sister. She’s also a lot more physically cautious than I was as a child.

DS on the other hand has DH’s colouring and his family think he looks like DH as a child, but I think his (lack of) height/skinniness/general agility and nippiness are much more like me. And funnily enough in photos I often see DS’ resemblance to my grandad, and to my youngest half sister. Funnily enough I don’t see my twin in either of them very often.

EmmiJay · 13/04/2020 00:13

My DD has my dimples, and my shape and thats it😭 I baked her and barely get any credit lol.

Yallreadyforthis · 13/04/2020 00:15

Mine look like my husband, Hugh Jackman

😂😂😂

Notonmyshift · 13/04/2020 00:18

Eldest me
Youngest dp but the youngest also has the same personality as dp.

I don't look like either of my parents but look the spitting image of my grandma
