If you could have the free run of any building in the world right now, where would you go?

All alone, no school parties, no guided tours, no overly officious guides, you can nosy behind the scenes and in the private areas.
For me, it would be one of the major art galleries of the world, the Louvre or the MMOMA, maybe a museum like the smithsonian.

Natural history museum, my favourite place on Earth

Or the ruins of Pompeii if that counts as a building? I could wander round there for days

MrsTerryPratchett · 12/04/2020 19:41

Machu picchu.

LochJessMonster · 12/04/2020 19:42

If you can go in previously private parts- the Pyramids of Giza

DramaAlpaca · 12/04/2020 19:44

The Cairo museum, or any of those places already mentioned above.

Ohmymg · 12/04/2020 19:45

The Tower of London! Great question

Still1nLove · 12/04/2020 19:46

The saatchi gallery, had tickets but now cancelled ☹️ (Or the museum in Cairo)

TheThingWithFeathers · 12/04/2020 19:46

I would love to wander the empty streets of New York. In terms of buildings, I'd pick the Met too, or the Guggenheim. Or maybe New York Public Library.

sweetkitty · 12/04/2020 19:46

After seeing it today St Peters Basilica in Rome. Bet there’s loads of hidden treasures in it

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 12/04/2020 19:46

The London Aquarium

The Shark Tank

sadpapercourtesan · 12/04/2020 19:47

Tower of London, as long as the chapel of St Peter ad Vincula is included

otherwise, Hampton Court :)

middleager · 12/04/2020 19:48

Quite simple. No exotic location.
The Tower of London.
Every time we've tried to go there are massive queues and it's so expensive.

middleager · 12/04/2020 19:49

Sad Great minds.

emptyplinth · 12/04/2020 19:52

El Prado or the British Museum

Starksforthewin · 12/04/2020 19:54

The Guggenheim in Bilbao for me.

Architectural masterpiece before you even start on the art inside.

bettybattenburg · 12/04/2020 19:55

My favourite house back home. It's empty right now and I'd love to be there with my immediate family.

MagentaRocks · 12/04/2020 19:56

Buckingham palace

UnaOfStormhold · 12/04/2020 19:57

The Alhambra - I'd love to have the time to appreciate the endless details of the walls while enjoying a refreshing mint lemonade and hearing only the sound of flowing water.

secretsciurusvulgaris · 12/04/2020 19:57

British Museum - rammed everyone time you go there, even on members’ evenings.

HarrySnotter · 12/04/2020 19:58

Hogwarts. 😊

KatyaZamolodchikova · 12/04/2020 19:58

Bodleian Library.

I’d love touch, smell and read the books. All the books.

MinesAPintOfTea · 12/04/2020 19:59

Bristol Library. It's a long time since I lived there and I always felt at home in the library. And there's lots of interesting non-public areas too

Astoatora54 · 12/04/2020 20:01

Versailles. We went last summer and it was packed. Shuffling around in a huge crowd was not fun.

cptartapp · 12/04/2020 20:05

St Peters Basillica, Rome. We went in October but the queues were horrendous so missed out on going inside.
Today particularly would be special.

Tumbleweed101 · 12/04/2020 20:07

Natural History Museum in London. Would absolutely love to go behind the scenes there as well as the general galleries without anyone else there. Would probably be creepy though!

YinMnBlue · 12/04/2020 20:15

I would go and live in Holmewood, the modernist NT house in Surrey, and sit for hours in the massive window watching the treetops blossom into their full bloom and foliage.
