Have you ever binge watched so much that you take on the speech patterns of the TV show characters?

I’ve noticed recently that I start to imitate the characters - eg an American show I don’t necessarily do an American accent but more their manner of speaking, or if the characters are very sweary I swear more for a few days.

Is this weird??!

Blush

Oh no not me I never referred to my friends home as her crib

Hazelnutlatteplease · 09/04/2020 22:39

DD does this. I think its quite common especially for anyone with ASD type tendancies. (Not saying you do but just a curious thing ive noticed)

KavvLar · 09/04/2020 22:41

I did have a little phase of calling everyone 'bitch' after binge watching Breaking Bad. Jesse Pinkman says it A LOT.

Since lockdown I’ve got a mini obsession with Catherine Tate’s Nan and Derek. I think it’s because I need a form of escapism, but with a slight hard edge (to match the tension the.Corona situation is inducing)..
Anyway, it’s meant that I’m talking away to myself in a Cockney accent and considering everything to be a f’ing liberty.

Marmite27 · 09/04/2020 22:42

My daughter has. She’s been watching Sheriff Callie from Disney Junior on Disney plus.

She now has a Disney sanitised Texas twang to her rather broad Yorkshire accent Grin

AMomHasNoName · 09/04/2020 22:44

Haha yes. On another note. I once binge watched pretty little liars . (A few years ago ago now )
I got so involved in it ,I heard the police sirens in my neighbourhood one night and thought for a split second they were coming for me because of something I (the characters ) had done. I cut down abit then Grin

I do have ASC and I can do it. It’s a form of echolalia.

Barbadosgirl · 09/04/2020 22:45

My seriously posh friend's seriously posh husband binge watched the Wire and I remember her saying "I don't understand what he is talking about anymore. We were walking down the road and he said "Look, it's the po po." What on earth are the po po?" I still LOL at the memory of her saying "po po" in this bewildered tone.

TerrorWig · 09/04/2020 22:45

Yes.

I am Don Draper.

Stroller15 · 09/04/2020 22:48

I've been speaking with a Joe Exotic/Oklahoma accent for weeks now. I thought it was only my internal voice but my DH picked up on my y'all's today.

Pleasebeafleabite · 09/04/2020 22:50

I spent my teenage years perfecting my scouse by watching brookside. I still slip into it today.

Always good to learn a language.

Queenoftheashes · 09/04/2020 22:51

Yes both with the crown and scream queens

GinAndTonicNeeded · 09/04/2020 22:55

@Barbadosgirl I came on to post The Wire... 10 years ago we binged watched the lot and our language became VERY colourful!

Typhoonmarie · 09/04/2020 22:58

Dh and I did a lot of ‘bitch’ etc during breaking bad

When dd watched too much Sam and cat she picked up on Ariana grande’s awful breathy voice. It drove me insane!

QuayboardWarrior · 09/04/2020 23:06

I'm now a milder version of Dean Winchester. Gravelly voice, common sayings and drinking habit included.

Husband and kids are being referred to as "Damnit, Cass!" And "Sammy!"

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 09/04/2020 23:08

I came on to say the Wire. At least it’s good to know I’m not alone Grin

Thethiniceofanewday · 09/04/2020 23:10

Blush I still say things from Blackadder without realising. “The long winter days must simply fly by”

Thethiniceofanewday · 09/04/2020 23:11

(Possibly nights)

DeborahAnnabelToo · 09/04/2020 23:11

Me and DH are doing manly viking grunts at each other and ululating the theme tune to The Last Kingdom when we want to watch an episode.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 09/04/2020 23:12

When I binged Downton a few years back my internal monologue because very Upstairs.

Same when I binged The Crown.

MrsTerryPratchett · 09/04/2020 23:13

Everyone watch Schitts Creek. I challenge you not to say "ew David" at people.

sweetkitty · 09/04/2020 23:13

Currently rewatching Gavin and Stacey with the DDs so I’m now Welsh.

Cocolapew · 09/04/2020 23:14

In my head I use a Gloria from Modern Family voice.

DianaT1969 · 09/04/2020 23:17

Breaking Bad for me. I had more attitude and swagger than any drug dealer in the UK. I also have to be careful if I binge watch action with karate because I feel I can take on anyone in a fight 😂

Getitdonesharpish · 09/04/2020 23:17

Didn’t all kids in the 80s have an upward inflection as a result of neighbours/home and away?
