Have you ever binge watched so much that you take on the speech patterns of the TV show characters?

I’ve noticed recently that I start to imitate the characters - eg an American show I don’t necessarily do an American accent but more their manner of speaking, or if the characters are very sweary I swear more for a few days.

Is this weird??!

I once used the phrase "breaking my balls" when we'd watched a lot of Sopranos.

KavLarr me and DPs when trying to wind each other up thing is his heavy accent and ending ever EVERY sentence in BITCH

As a teenager, I was obsessed with Thunderbirds, and found myself speaking in the same way the characters did. Although I didn't say "F. A. B.", I said phrases such as "for Pete's sake". Blush

Yes, DH and I talk like we work in the 99 all the time... only at home, I hope!

YgritteSnow · 10/04/2020 10:55

I've binge watched so much that when I went to bed I fell asleep and slipped straight into the world of the series. Also can happen if I watch a scary movie just before bed 😱

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 10/04/2020 11:19

After a good binge of Orange is the new black and American version of the Bridge I was really proficient in Spanish swearwords.

MummyGoingItAlone · 10/04/2020 11:21

Does Peppa Pig count? Oink!

MysteriousSheep · 10/04/2020 11:27

I became very camp after binge watching about 7 seasons of rupaul’s drag race a few years ago. It was weird!

SimonJT · 10/04/2020 11:28

No, but I use subtitles, so it would be very weird if I did.

CheesyHousePlant · 10/04/2020 11:31

This is half of the language I use. I am sure it has come from TV shows I watched or even shows people close to me watched and repeated and I picked it up from them.

morecoffeerequired · 10/04/2020 11:32

In times of annoyance I do occasionally find myself channelling my inner Blackadder Grin

HelenaJustina · 10/04/2020 11:35

DH and I did when we binged on the West Wing. Our sentences became shorter and more staccato, not mani obvious Americanisms though.

HelenaJustina · 10/04/2020 11:35

*many

redbigbananafeet · 10/04/2020 11:51

kavvLar right BITCH? You know, BITCH!

ilovebagpuss · 10/04/2020 11:55

I’ve just discovered and watched a load of Peaky Blinders and am feeling a bit dangerous Grin just waiting to pull my gun out of my gorgeous 20’s handbag and shout “don’t mess with the fackin Peaky Blinders”

ivebeeneaten · 10/04/2020 12:42

There was a while when I binge watched Buffy they I half expected vampires to appear when I was walking home from work in the dark. It was ok though I was pretty confident I could dust them.

QuimReaper · 10/04/2020 12:53

I came on to say The Wire too Grin On a holiday last summer we were talking about how we were running low on booze, and I said "when we next stop for lunch we'll just find a supermarket on Google Maps and a couple of us will go for a re-up."

My husband said "RE-UP?" in really scornful tones. "What is a RE-UP? That's NOT A WORD."

He was the only one who hadn't ever seen The Wire. There was a long, embarrassed silence whilst we all just stared awkwardly at each and tried to pretend it hadn't happened.

It did though.

(He's seen The Wire now.)

Elieza · 10/04/2020 13:06

I’ve been on here too much and talked to a friend and nearly called her OP. What a fanny! Does that count?? Grin

HeyDuggeewhatchadoin · 10/04/2020 13:08

Sopranos Blush

Bezalelle · 10/04/2020 13:13

DH and I have basically morphed into Martin and Jackie Goodman from Friday Night Dinner.

ComeOnGordon · 10/04/2020 13:14

One couldn’t help oneself from speaking like the queen after watching the crown

Userengage · 10/04/2020 13:19

Scandal - I was firing off instructions and consequences constantly. DH would tell me to stop Olivia Poping the children.

FaFoutis · 10/04/2020 13:21

I do it in my head, currently Lafayette in True Blood, I say it a normal way (I hope) but in my head it's him.
