Have you ever binge watched so much that you take on the speech patterns of the TV show characters?

I’ve noticed recently that I start to imitate the characters - eg an American show I don’t necessarily do an American accent but more their manner of speaking, or if the characters are very sweary I swear more for a few days.

Is this weird??!

Could you BE any more adorable?
How YOU doing?
🤣

Sunnydaysarecoming · 09/04/2020 23:20

Yes! I do this when I binge watch peep show, the speech patterns and I’ve said the quotes jokingly so much that I now use it in everyday conversation. “Chance would be a fine thing.”

Yes! In particular, Friends and Gavin & Stacey

Yep. I’m currently sounding like Kerry and Kurtan Mucklowe. Driving DH mad leaving long awkward pauses at the end of each statement Grin

Quarantino · 09/04/2020 23:35

I don't think it's from binge-watching, but I do become Mark Corrigan at times...

Forgetaboutme · 09/04/2020 23:37

Hello you cool cats and kittens! No I wouldn't say binge watching has got me talking like any characters. But I know who would say crap like that...Carole Baskin!

ShrimpSymphony · 09/04/2020 23:40

Saying Oh to get someone’s attention and starting almost all phonecalls to DH, DD and Dsis with You Slaaag. Probably some other Gavin and Stacey isms in there somewhere too

babyinthacorner · 09/04/2020 23:45

DeborahAnnabelToo YES! My husband and I say ‘tis good whenever we sit down and start to eat, Uhtred-style.

Today I noticed my husband do a Marty Byrde-style nod at me. And whilst watching BB I used to wonder what Walt & Jesse were up to during the day sometimes, like they were real life friends. Bitch.

Lessstressedhemum · 10/04/2020 00:06

Apparently I become even more Scottish when I watch Outlander. And I do a mean rhotic r.

FaithInfinity · 10/04/2020 00:08

Yes this imitation is called social echolalia. I got very Welsh when I studied there. My inner monologue goes into Stacey when I watch Gavin and Stacey. I also slip into Trixie if I’m watching Call the midwife!

OhhhPeee · 10/04/2020 00:12

When I’ve been watching Veep every other word - and sometimes every other syllable - is fuck.

TeeniefaeTroon · 10/04/2020 00:15

No, but after watching 15 seasons of Grey's anatomy I feel I'm qualified to perform many surgical procedures 😁

RightOnTheEdge · 10/04/2020 00:27

When I've been watching Vera I always want to keep doing that funny little hmmm she always does.
It's amazing she can put so many meanings into hmm depending on the tone.

My Dad has gone mad because him and my dm had never noticed until I pointed it out and now they can't not hear it Grin

Giggorata · 10/04/2020 00:28

As a Lexx fan,, I often channel Kai, by looking away, tilting my head and saying “I do not know”
Or become Mrs Doyle “g'wan, g'wan”
I binge watched back to back Ennemi Public, Le Foret and Black Spot, so now my expletive of choice is”putain”
There are loads more......

Cupcakey · 10/04/2020 00:54

Poldark...... I'm now Cornish! Even talking in my head in Cornish accents about what's tasks I'm doing next... changing ds nappy.....
I be changinnnnnn yerrrrr narrrpeeee
I be hangin meeee warrrshing out
Then I just pipe up with Poldaarrrrkkk every now and again Grin

The long winter evenings must just fly by.

wheetos · 10/04/2020 01:00

Yes!!!! I started Gavin and Stacey a week ago and just finished and I cant stop saying 'Barry' in a Welsh accent.

Postspecific · 10/04/2020 01:01

Did a fair bit of to-camera following Fleabag.

DamsonDress · 10/04/2020 01:08

Yep. I thought I became rather sassy when I binged on Orange is the New Black. My family on the other hand thought I was more rude and borderline offensive. Oh, I miss it.

elp30 · 10/04/2020 01:17

My daughter has started calling me, "Mammy" like Erin in "Derry Girls". We are Texan 🤦🏻‍♀️

DS is very prone. Last week he was King Julian, this week he's Dumbledore.

DH, who's been cooking to detox after wfh is John from Masterchef.

RomeoLikedCapuletGirls · 10/04/2020 03:19

I must do bcs if my friends don’t understand what I’m saying they will look at each other and say “probably another Friends quote”.

Unshriven · 10/04/2020 03:32

I went through a Scandi noir phase, and actually said 'tak' when leaving a shop.

And I said 'fuck' with an accent more often than was necessary, thankfully not in a shop.

It also left me with a horror of underpasses, bridges, and parks after dark. Grin
