I spent £8,000 on windows for an extension and threw away nearly all of the keys with the packaging the day they arrived.

Can anyone beat my stupidity?

As a teenager we moved house and I was so happy that I had my own bedroom for the first time (previously shared with my sister). A couple of days in I decided to iron something on the floor with just a sheet underneath, burnt an iron shaped hole in the brand new carpet.

Can you get new keys?

Seventyone72seventy3 · 07/04/2020 10:19

My husband picked up our brand new diesel car (some years ago!) and promptly filled it up with petrol and drove it home.

worldweary45 · 07/04/2020 10:20

I picked up a new car, stoped at the shops on the way home and reversed into a post in the car park

FreckledLeopard · 07/04/2020 10:21

Brand new iPhone - stuck it in my back pocket (which I NEVER normally do), went to the loo, pulled down trousers, phone fell out and screen smashed.

sofato5miles · 07/04/2020 10:26

Brought an expensive lampshade (£3000) that was shipped from the US, and in my excitement damaged it as i pulled it out of the box, that i hadn't opened properly

letsjog · 07/04/2020 10:28

Not owned many super expensive things but a few I can think of.

New phone bought outright - 2 months later left it within reach of 1yr old who promptly threw it down the toilet. It was in there for a good 10mins before I started looking for it.

DP was very kind and repurchased the same model for me a few weeks later. A week later I smashed the screen when I dropped it 😐
Got it fixed at a good price. 5 months later smashed again. I needed a replacement ASAP and couldn't wait the 3 weeks it took to get a new screen ordered so I bought a unknown brand one on Amazon to tie me over. Original phone screen still not fixed as I haven't gotten around to it and now it's lockdown.

Amazon replacement phone has a cracked screen 3 months in.

I am a mess.

DH bought a £100 jumper, I put it in the wash and it came out toddler sized, he'd had it about 3 days.

I had my first iPhone (about 8 years ago) and a poorly baby. Baby was sick on my dressing gown and I promptly put it in the wash, with my phone, on its first day in the pocket.

CognativeDissonance · 07/04/2020 10:35

Just moved into a new house and had a TV delivered on the 1st of February. Knocked it off the TV table and cracked the shit out of the screen on the 1st of April. Right in the middle of lockdown. Ffs.

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 07/04/2020 10:38

I bought a brand new car, fully kitted out to my spec.

Within 6 days I had badly scraped it on a tight corner, needing a full respray of the entire passenger rear wing. I actually cried when it happened.

SwerfandTurf · 07/04/2020 10:38

Dropped a new iPhone in the bath.

CheddarGorgeous · 07/04/2020 10:45

@SnowsInWater Shock that is so something I would do.

All the windows have the same keys so we can lock them all with the couple we have left.

@CognativeDissonance oh no!

@BuzzShitbagBobbly yes, I would have cried too. That's why I hate buying a new (i.e. new to me). I know I'll scratch/scrape/dent it straight away.

New phones are fatally attracted to loos, baths and washing machines it seems.

Scratched my new Granite worktop with a Stanley Knife trying to open a parcel.
I can still remember the horror of lifting the parcel up and seeing the worktop.
We hadn't even moved in at this point.

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 07/04/2020 10:50

That's why I hate buying a new

It was the first and last time I will ever buy a brand new, factory miles only car - my life was exactly the right combination of cheap living and good salary at the time.

(It was amazing though - every single item was exactly as I had specced it, and the feeling of knowing it was mine from the very start. I loved that car....)

I have also dropped my phone down the loo, but I revived it with a severe drying from a Dyson Airblade - the key is driving water out immediately/actively. The rice trick isn't as good as forceful air for that!

Windyatthebeach · 07/04/2020 10:51

Spent £500 on a pair of Prada glasses about 15 years ago.
Same day ds threw a dvd at his sibling and chipped my new specs..
Sob sob sob....

DontBiteTheBoobThatFeedsYou · 07/04/2020 10:54

I am a mess.

No, you just needed decent covers and screen protectors on the phones.

Many years ago I went out for a picnic with my boyfriend. The yoghurt split all over my mobile.

nicky7654 · 07/04/2020 11:08

Day 1 of brand new paid outright iPhone (gift from Husband) My drink leaked in my bag where phone was and totally killed it! Coke is not good for phones lol. I cried and was scared to tell my Husband but he was fine thank goodness.

Noworrieshere · 07/04/2020 11:09

I bought a beautiful expensive leather handbag recently. The first properly lovely handbag I have ever owned. Put a permanent marker pen in it without the lid on on it left a big stain right through to the outside of the lovely light tan coloured leather. Had only owned it 3 days.

When I was nineteen, I bought a brand new car with some inheritance and upon picking it up from the dealership, drove it down the side of another new car in their extremely tight car park. Not exactly my finest moment!
