I spent £8,000 on windows for an extension and threw away nearly all of the keys with the packaging the day they arrived.

Can anyone beat my stupidity?

Splashed out on expensive, heavy duty, beautiful landing and stair carpet. The fitter took photos as he was so impressed with how good it looked.

Within a week the cat had ripped a huge hole in it.

We are now living with tatty old sofas as I refuse to buy anything new that could be used as a scratching post.

Brand new iPad. Chipped a corner with my engagement ring putting it down on the table out of the box. Watched the crack spread like Scrat placing an acorn on the ice.

Won a jeroboam of Krug rosé at a charity auction. Slipped out of my hands in the foyer of the park lane Hilton. Hit the marble and exploded like a bomb going off. Staff literally dived for their lives. Blush

Our first brand new car , 1994 ..first journey was on holiday , as we returned home 2 weeks later I happily swung it into a new telegraph pole that had been put up in our absence .....totally wrecked the front and side , my husband has never let me forget !!

Daisymaybe60 · 11/04/2020 17:35

My beautiful buttery soft suede skirt. Which I ruined because I chose to believe the one random internet nutter who said that of course it was perfectly safe to wash suede in a machine and she did it all the time.

I was given a lovely Waterford Crystal decanter when I left one job and DH was showing it off to the family while I made Christmas dinner the next week. I heard an almighty crash as he took out the heavy stopper and dropped it right on top of the decanter.

Got new Hugo Boss prescription sunglasses day before going on holiday to Florida. 3rd day of holiday go through a waterfall in lay river and glasses knocked off. 2 minutes later the sound the alarm to get out as lightening expected. Got back in water an hour later but glasses long gone by then. I could have cried in fact I did 😭

Autumnchill · 11/04/2020 18:05

Got an Ellesse watch in the 90s from Freeman's catalogue. Not had it 24hrs and I dropped it on the swimming pool changing room floor and smashed the glass. Spent 20 weeks paying it off and couldn't use it 😩

Picked up a new car. 5 days later daughter opened the electric garage door while walking out of the house and it opened onto the new car and scratched a lot of paintwork and put a dint in the door.

MrsStott · 11/04/2020 18:22

My brand new eternity ring, took it off, very sleep deprived put it on wrong finger follow day and it wouldn’t come off, had to have it sawn off!

Murinae · 11/04/2020 18:23

And we haven’t been able to have it resprayed yet due to the virus

Theonewiththecat · 11/04/2020 18:31

When I got my iPhone 3gs (so ages ago) I had it for 17 days and dropped it face down onto a rock.
DP put a new screen on it.
Weeks later the volume button fell off, it was sent back for repair.
Got it back and then a few weeks later dd had to stay in hospital with pneumonia, her beeper was going off, so I leaned over to silence it and kneeled on my phone and broke the screen again 😳.

cptartapp · 11/04/2020 18:33

The specialist that fit our large expensive limestone fireplace had not long left, when DH whilst re-fitting the skirting board, swung the hammer and took a chunk out of one of the surrounding legs.

squishedgrapes · 11/04/2020 19:19

Got a new MacBook, celebrated opening it and setting it up. Spilled champagne all over keyboard

Katinski · 11/04/2020 19:35

Bought a brand new car straight from the showroom when we moved to the UK. Crashed it into the garage the first time I used it, trying to put it away.
Back to the garage for repairs.
Picked it up and did exactly the same thing again that evening.Grin
Too embarrassed to take it to the same garage for repairs.

Katinski · 11/04/2020 19:40

Quite something,tho,to reverse into a showcar, tho.lala I'm clearly still a novice!

tittysprinkles · 11/04/2020 19:43

Just moved into our newly renovated house with a brand new engineered wood floor which we'd just taken the plastic film off. A week after we moved in a John Lewis blind fitter came to fit a blind upstairs. As he was on his way down, the handle snapped off his Stanley plastic work box, which tumbled down the stairs, the lid broke off and about a thousand screws tumbled out all over the wooden floor leaving deep scratches by the front door.

Poor guy was mortified, I was more alarmed that the box could have landed on my toddler!

catwithflowers · 11/04/2020 19:48

A very beautiful Christian Dior baby outfit someone gave me for my daughter who is now 22. I hardly knew the lady who bought it for me and of course the baby vomited over it and the orange stain never came out. It must have cost a bloody fortune. All the rest of my daughter’s clothes came from Mothercare, Boots or similar 😬. I’ll never forget opening the box the outfit came in, so lovely and beautifully packaged!!!!!

Ozzfest · 11/04/2020 19:49

A brand new, just out of the wrapping, Toshiba laptop, about 16 years ago when they were ‘new’ and expensive!!
My son was talking his step-dad through how to use Skype.. and his step-dad picked up his big glass of Coke to take a mouthful...
My son appeared on the screen in front of him... and Step-dad jumped out of his skin - and dropped the Coke all over the laptop!!
The screen went blank ... never to return...
About £950 if I remember correctly

FlaskMaster · 11/04/2020 19:58

Hmm, I might be about to win this thread. I got a boob lift and a tummy tuck, and then I fell pregnant again. :/

GloGirl · 11/04/2020 20:14

New phone, replacing my old phone which i dropped too many times.

Put in washing machine. Actually saw it spinning around as I went to stop the machine when i realised my mistake!

I was so exhausted with little babies, I cried for a week thinking I couldn't afford to replace it again and how on earth I would cope without a smart phone Sad (did eventually replace)

FizzyPink · 11/04/2020 20:18

A few weeks ago I lit a candle underneath the TV which promptly melted it. The next day went and bought a new one and thought “oh the candle will be fine now, it’s much shorter” Lit it again under the brand new TV......another burn Blush
DP was not impressed!

thirdwheel · 11/04/2020 20:51

Not me, but my brother was trying to sell his car for months and he was probably asking too much. First viewer in ages, my dad offered to pull it off the drive, was refused and the potential buyer scraped it on the low wall edging the drive. He got out and my Dad asked "so you're buying it then?" My Mum was so glad to get rid of it at last!

KenDodd · 11/04/2020 20:56

I went to vist family on my birthday, picked up lots of presents, drove home and ran over all all my birthday presents.

lolaflores · 11/04/2020 20:58
