I spent £8,000 on windows for an extension and threw away nearly all of the keys with the packaging the day they arrived.

Can anyone beat my stupidity?

My car died and my mum very generously said she wanted to upgrade her car so she would give me her car as a gift.

It was only 3 years old and by far the newest and nicest car I have ever owned.
I drove it home and reversed into a telegraph pole when I was parking it - caused £350 worth of damage.

ivfbabymomma1 · 07/04/2020 17:28

I have also done the phone in the pocket in the washing machine thing

& my DH although not his fault has his car totalled 10 mins after buying it outright

My DH washed a jacket id worn once and ruined it, I have also done the same with one of his posh shirts

2020canfuckrightoff · 07/04/2020 17:29

Not me but an old (wealthy) boss. Bought a brand new Porsche - her sister opened the passenger door onto oncoming traffic the day she bought it and it was ripped straight off!

Tonyaster · 07/04/2020 17:29

Spent 12k on a horse that tore a tendon first time out cross country and was then unable to be ridden for 2 years, then just as it was getting better it got kicked in the knee by another horse, shattered it's bone and had to be put down. I spent another 4k on it in vets fees.

As a teen I managed to chuck a cup of tea down the side of DM's very newly and beigely re-upholstered sofa. Even worse, I hid it with a casual cushion so it really had time to sink in. Got in so much trouble...

Dowser · 07/04/2020 18:01

Love this thread
Not just me then
Two brand new cars , three years apart, both a month old reversed into something.
Three month old new phone dropped down loo on 60 th birthday. It would’ve been ok but didn’t know what to do and fried it with charge cable. We got it back but couldn’t charge it with cable . DHhad to buy me a separate battery charger so for 3 years I carried two spare battery with me as I wasn’t going to buy a new phone

I’m sure there’s more

Bdayupset · 07/04/2020 18:11

This isn't the same thing, but our dog ate my raybans Sad

Watto1 · 07/04/2020 18:46

We had just had a new bathroom suite fitted. I was putting all my toiletries, lotions and potions back in the bathroom, including a big glass jar of posh moisturiser. Yes, I dropped it. The jar of moisturiser was absolutely fine, but my lovely new toilet had a massive hole in the lid of the cistern.

Greyeye · 07/04/2020 19:23

Accidentally flushed my wedding ring down the loo...

PennyArrowBar · 07/04/2020 19:59

First couch we bought, £2.5k, had it delivered, took the plastic packaging off and DH almost immediately threw a full cup of coffee all over it.

Second couch, another £2.5k. I got (light grey) leather thinking "wipe clean, no coffee incidents, genius". It arrived. The next night, DH decided to order a curry, spilled Tikka mafuckingsala all over it. Tumeric stains. It does not come off leather.

I make him sit on the floor now.

A couple of years ago my parents got me a new tv for my birthday... when I tried to set it up it nearly fell over so I instinctively raised my knee to stop it and cracked the screen 😳 I'm ashamed to say that I told my dad that it was cracked when I took it out the box and the shop replaced it...

radioband · 07/04/2020 20:57

I bought a new smart TV, never had one before. A week later I chucked one of the babies toys into the toybox next to it, completely missed and hit the TV. I was gutted!

makingmiracles · 07/04/2020 21:18

A few years back now but ds1 was a terror, just paid over £500 to have new underlay and carpet in living room when he decided to climb up onto my chest of drawers, so he could reach the iron which was on top of my tall wardrobe, way out of reach of children, or so I thought. He then proceeded to take into living room, plug in and make pretty patterns on the new carpet. I cried, it was in the centre of the room too. We still have the carpet but a huge rug covers the main damage and a sofa covers the rest!

Also ds1 managed to scratch the hell out of a huge brand new tv we’d paid something like £800 for, he had a tantrum and picked up a toy and dragged it across the screen, wed ordered the wall brackets but they hadn’t arrived at that point so it was on a sideboard before we planned to wall mount it.

Kids wanted to help wash car I’d not long had, £4000, didn’t realise until it was too late they’d got fed up of sharing a sponge and one had sneaked off and found scour pads, lots of lovely scoured patches all over the paint work on one sideSad.

JustaScratch · 07/04/2020 21:24

I bought my husband a £150 cashmere jumper (this is a lot for us. It was his main Christmas present) which I accidentally put on a hot wash the first time I washed it.

Gypsyrosa · 07/04/2020 21:30

Two I can remember...

First one, moved into new bourse, lovely new kitchen, morning of starting new job with £250 brand new suit, for some reason that I just cannot fathom, I came downstairs, put the jacket of the unworn suit (inside a suit carrier) on top of the hob which in my moment of insanity had obviously decided was a fine temporary spot for it Hmm... Cue husband yelling that he'd only just used the hob to boil an egg.... Perfectly round, 6" diameter hole through suit carrier and suit! What a dickhead!

Second, lovely brand new VW campervan..was happily outside pottering around weeding drive etc to turn and see 3 year old Dd merrily 'drawing' all over lovely new van with a very sharp stone 😭😭😭 ...result couple of hundred pounds worth of damage in minutes!!

user1494055864 · 07/04/2020 21:35

DH laid a brand new light grey real wood floor in our hallway, dd2 at the time had a pair of 'high heel' glittery party shoes that were all the rage amongst 7 year olds at the time, she clip clopped around the brand new hallway in them, we didn't realise she was walking on the heels of them until it was too late, and she had put hundreds of tiny moon shaped grooves into our brand new floor the day it was laid.

OhhhPeee · 07/04/2020 21:39

We bought a new build home off plan, and paid a few grand extra for a beautiful Porcelanosa floor in the kitchen. Within minutes of getting the keys, I somehow managed to drop DH’s cordless drill onto the floor and chipped a tile. It was right in the centre of the floor as well, I was devastated.

mrsfury · 07/04/2020 21:59

Dad let me use his car when I was 20, Came back to the house, pulled on the drive, couldn't find the foot brake thing and the drive was slightly slanted - yep crashed his 3 month old brand new Porsche into the garage door.

Treated myself to a Louis Vuitton bag, off round to a girls night at a friends house, bottle of wine in bag. Arrived at her house and put the bag on the island in her kitchen with a bit too much force and wine bottle smashed.. marvelous

justsotiredtired · 07/04/2020 22:01

An expensive Joseph cashmere top... in a hot wash 😭

Gypsyrosa · 07/04/2020 22:08

@Tonyaster ..that's so sad Sad

Windyatthebeach · 09/04/2020 10:29

Not that expensive but very short lived lino....
Lasted 2 days..
I laughed when dh showed me his proudly fitted flooring.
Thought he knew ddog better!!

Tonyaster · 09/04/2020 13:25

Gypsyrosa I know. He was a lovely boy as well. Feel a bit mean making it all about the money but it was the best part of 18k literally for nothing other than the pleasure of his company for 2 years.

DustyMaiden · 09/04/2020 15:46

@Watto1
I did exactly the same but it hit Porcelain floor tiles and made a hole in one. I bought some paste you mix from Amazon and colour matched it. I’m proud of my handy work as DH still doesn’t know a year later.

unicorntails · 09/04/2020 19:25

Had my brand new Mercedes for 3 weeks before I promptly reversed it into a wall trying to park a little too quickly Blush.
Definitely looked like that idiot
