I spent £8,000 on windows for an extension and threw away nearly all of the keys with the packaging the day they arrived.

Can anyone beat my stupidity?

My quickest was a new pair of sunglasses, about £100. Went to pull the tag off and snapped the arm off instead. I was sitting in my car outside the shop I’d bought them in five minutes earlier. I don’t have a good track record with sunglasses, so I don’t but expensive ones anymore. The cheaper they are the longer they last usually.
I also drove my new car into a wall and had to pay £400 to have it resprayed a week after I bought it.

CigarsofthePharoahs · 07/04/2020 11:23

Had a very expensive lampshade as a wedding present. A lot candle was too near and left a burn mark on it. The shade also warped a bit.
Managed to crack a rather nice clay pot I'd bought for making lovely stews the very first time I used it.

Not me but my sister. She took her brand new, 3 miles on the clock, car to our Mum's house to show off her new purchase (£15k) and promptly drove it right into the corner of the house. Wrote off her car AND structurally damaged the house at the same time. That one gets brought up every now and again...

ParisInTheSpringtime · 07/04/2020 11:35

Bought an expensive designer dress for NYE. It was beautifully beaded with sequins all over. Fell on my arse and all the sequins came off of a large area.

rslsys · 07/04/2020 11:40

Bought a new Caravan £28k. Towed it 7 miles home. Reversed it round in the yard, didn't allow for the fact that it was longer than the old one and ripped the awning rail off on a low wall!

Hoggleludo · 07/04/2020 11:40

@RunningAwaywiththeCircus

That was the only post that made me go

Ouch!

VivaLeBeaver · 07/04/2020 11:41

I drove a 12k car into a flood 2 weeks after buying it and flooded it out completely. Total breakdown in the middle of the deep water. Not covered by the insurance.

Thankfully not a write off but a slightly expensive garage bill. Car smelt like a swamp for ages as the water came inside.

Hoggleludo · 07/04/2020 11:42

@RunningAwaywiththeCircus that was to the smeg fire post

But vomiting into your Bayswater. Classic!
I just brought a Bayswater. Oh my god. If I got a pen mark. I'd die. Or vomited into it!

Freshstart40 · 07/04/2020 11:45

Broke my DH mnew flat screen tv he saved ages for (with no accidently cover) by dusting the shelf it sits on with the hoover... knocked the screen and instantly a black line appeared down the middle of the screen, which gets larger by the day.

fuckinghellthisshit · 07/04/2020 11:47

I saved up and used all my bday and Xmas money to buy expensive moisturiser. Dropped in first use and splat, rescued some :(

Biffsboys · 07/04/2020 11:47

New Prada sunglasses , went into the sea with them on and a huge wave stole them from my head 😞

LemonScentedStickyBat · 07/04/2020 11:50

Chip in granite worktop within days. 10 years on, the rest is till perfect.

vampirethriller · 07/04/2020 11:51

As a teen I had a part time job in a little gallery. I was asked to put some glass bowls on display. I dropped the first one I touched. £700.

Salene · 07/04/2020 11:53

Bought a £1000 mountain bike 15 years ago , stuck it on back of my car to go a ride in woods arrived at the woods to find it ha gone

It had fallen off , found it in a battered state 10 miles back along the round

DontBiteTheBoobThatFeedsYou · 07/04/2020 11:54

Granite worktops sound crap.

Cuts and chips?!

justanotherneighinparadise · 07/04/2020 11:56

Broke up a fight in a local village. In my haste to exit my car it fell onto the road. Hours later I realised it was missing and something made me twig it might be laying in the road near where my car had been parked.

Well it was certainly was nearby, laying about 50ft up the road where I watched it being run over by copious cars and buses. I managed to grab it and it was completely mangled. I paid for it to have the screen repaired and it did work afterwards to a certain extent. The torch wouldn’t work, nor the camera and it overheated very quickly. I used it for about 6 months though before we purchased the one I’m on currently 😜

justanotherneighinparadise · 07/04/2020 11:58

Oh and my one year old abashed up the living room TV with a pair of maracas 😬. £250 down the drain in less than a minute.

Daffodil55 · 07/04/2020 11:59

@sofato5miles

Did you really buy a lampshade for £3k or was that a typo?

This thread is cheering me up on another monotonous day. So funny but in a black humour type of way.

I could probably fill a page with my own stupid disasters but while I have never (yet!) damaged or broken a mobile phone I do remember around 10 years ago a male friend rang me and he said he was in the pub. We chatted for a couple of minutes then I heard a strange noise. No more chat and it was several days before he contacted me again. Yes he had dropped his phone in his pint of lager.

BasilDiffuser · 07/04/2020 12:23

This is making me feel better. I wrecked our very new very expensive dining table last night with nail polish remover. Thankfully DH is a key worker (Not frontline) so it out all day as I am not his favourite person at the moment.

CheddarGorgeous · 07/04/2020 12:29

What is it about driving cars into houses? I badly scraped an Audi A4 along the pebbledash of my parents bungalow. I had borrowed it from my very nice friend who was so chilled about it.

OP posts:
CheddarGorgeous · 07/04/2020 12:30

@BasilDiffuser is it salvagable?

Roseinbloom20 · 07/04/2020 12:32

On a hen night I stupidly took my brand new bottle of Burberry Her perfume (Christmas gift from my parents) with me in my bag to "freshen up" every so often. First toilet trip of the night I take it out to have a spray and of course it slips out of my hand and onto the tile floor and smashes 😭 I swear it happened in slow motion like an outer body experience where I was just watching it fall. I picked up the glass and tried to put on as much of the perfume as I could before throwing the broken bottle in the bin 😥 literally threw £60+ in the bin that night.

TerrorWig · 07/04/2020 12:33

Have managed to mangle (and lose) many a kindle. Have always replaced though as I use mine daily.

The worst I can remember I’ve shared before. We’d bought a marble fireplace surround, were having it fitted the following day. DH managed to smash it, having a tantrum about something ridiculous.

We honestly almost split up over it. He was suitably embarrassed by his behaviour and hasn’t done anything similar since - but we also still haven’t had the fireplace fitted by

TerrorWig · 07/04/2020 12:33

...by no one. Should have been a full stop!
