Very pleasing things that have happened today? .

I have just fitted a new kitchen bin into the bin cupboard. The previous one has been fucked on it's last legs for about 4 years. Slightly wonky, draggy to pull out, the lid would fall in...just rubbish really (>

So it finally really broke a few days ago. Ordered a new on (sorry to the "You can only order a left kidney and food brigade" )and it arrived today. A total doddle to fit.

And it opens. Smoothly. No wriggling/yanking/rearranging of lid to get it open and closed. It is truly bringing me pleasure.

I nearly thought about attaching a video to show how pleasing it was. But then I realised that was bloody dull and bit mad a bit odd, as not having experienced the hell of the old bin, you would not necessarily appreciate the smoothness of the new bin.

What things have pleased you today? However small or dull they may seem - what has made you happy?

Really loving this positive thread!

Cleared masses of ivy from back of garden and put up trellis that has been waiting around for a couple of years
DH with whom am on very bad terms -in process of splitting-fixed my bike and agreed to pay for DS's phone (that he had be refusing to, out of spite towards me) and we had a civilised conversation
Sat in the sun reading a book
Set up online banking
Used FaceTime )for the first time ever) with a friend

My baby is 2 weeks old and slept 4 hour chunks last night in her cot. I'm hoping this bodes well for her being a better sleeper than her sister was!

drspouse · 05/04/2020 07:15

Oh congratulations on the new baby!

Monkerina · 05/04/2020 07:34

Loving the positive stories! Yesterday 4yo DS and I noticed that our pepper plants (from seeds we planted last autumn in a fit of boredom) have got flower buds on them! They might actually produce! This is a minor miracle as my fingers are in no way green, they kill all but the hardiest plants, and he adores peppers. He eats at least half a raw one every day and I was worrying about how to keep supply up with minimal shopping trips so hopefully this will help!

I did a great big dog walk just towards dusk, and met almost no one. I got to admire all the lovely houses in some of the old parts of my town and finished off on a quite part with no lampposts just as dusk and darkness began, and had tiny bats flying around me!

ChoporNot · 05/04/2020 08:46

Oh these are all wonderful. And you can feel the pleasure we are getting. I think it can be something we forget to do - grab these pleasures from small but oh, so important things.

I've just popped something in my bin.
I can here the bees
I can see and feel the sun through the kitchen window.
Watching the shrubs bob gently from birds hopping around in them.

Let's hope for a similarly pleasure-filled day today.

Oh and @BikeRunSki what film was it please? We are always struggling to find films that suit all of us (DC are 13yo and 11yo).

@ChopoeNot

It was Moana. The original Italian Job worked for everyone too though.

BikeRunSki · 05/04/2020 09:54

Sorry, previous message was for @ChoporNot

This thread has made me smile. I’m 8 days into self isolation, 4 family members sick (one to the point of being advised to ring an ambulance last night), me and dd are the only ones without symptoms in our house. School work, walks, shopping all not possible at the moment. I’m stupidly excited reading this and thinking of all the things I can look forward to when everyone recovers, none of which would’ve been exciting Before!

I found mine & my daughter's passports & birth certificates! Last seen October 2018! They were on top of the fridge freezer under piles of crap. What a pity we can't go anywhere for the foreseeable.

Goawayquickly · 05/04/2020 15:06

All my white towels dried in no time today and while I was collecting them to bring in there was a bee buzzing around that I, er had a chat with 😁
There’s paprika chicken in the oven and a cold beer to look forward to in the garden shortly.

I’m sleeping like a log at the moment which is very unusual for me.

Sharing a chat and a glass of prosecco in my garden wit my next door neighbour through our garden fence

WickedlyPetite · 05/04/2020 16:47

My leg of lamb has cooked to perfection, and I'm enjoying a nice glass of red and watching the birds going crazy at the bird feeders I've put out, whilst waiting for the roasties to cook.

dementedma · 05/04/2020 18:33

On my walk I saw Goldfinches and "helped" a frog across the road.

WriteHon · 05/04/2020 19:40

Yesterday I found white violets in the wood.

Today I was tying up some clematis, and a blackbird in the hedge close by started singing, but very quietly, as though just to himself. I had to creep away in the end and leave him to his crooning.

iVampire · 05/04/2020 19:47

I did a Zoom exercise class with a group who cannot currently meet in RL

I hacked back the hopelessly overgrown bit of the garden and got the wonky rose arch back to upright (I never pruned properly there last year, and oh my gosh it was rampant)

DS made dinner and it was lovely

dellacucina · 05/04/2020 19:54

I planned to stop by an off license for some milk, but the big Turkish grocery was bizarrely empty of people so I was able to do a bigger shop. I managed to buy EGGS!!!

Milomonster · 05/04/2020 19:59

After having a long cry on Friday, decided I needed to get my shit together for the sake of my beautiful boy. We went for a lovely cycle together in Hyde Park. It’s the first time I’ve cycled in London. He stopped at one point and said, “Mama, I’m having a lovely day with you today.” I know the next few weeks will be tough for us all but I think it will be a great chance for bonding. We will watch Race Across the World on BBC together as we love traveling together. I highly recommend it.

NotEvenTheKing · 05/04/2020 20:02

I made two bloody glorious loaves of bread today. That has perked me right up.

ScouseQueen · 05/04/2020 20:10

In the effort to use up freezer food, got a joint of pork out that had been totally forgotten for ages, and had delicious roast pork last night and delicious pork stir fry tonight. Pleased with our success in being thrifty.

psychomath · 05/04/2020 20:24

The sun came out too late here to shine into my back yard, so I opened my front door and sat in the patch of sun inside the hall. A couple of passing strangers looked in and smiled when they saw me. I'm on day 6 of self-isolation (with a slight cough) and I live alone, so it was really nice to have a tiny bit of human interaction Smile

Bluewavescrashing · 05/04/2020 21:18

I've had a nostalgic session with amazon music unlimited. Boyzone ballads and other 90s cheesiness. Really lifted my mood 😊

Fespital · 05/04/2020 23:30

I taught my elderly MIL to use her storage heaters efficiently today. OK so the weather doesn't exactly demand it but it's good practice for when it does!
