Very pleasing things that have happened today? .

I have just fitted a new kitchen bin into the bin cupboard. The previous one has been fucked on it's last legs for about 4 years. Slightly wonky, draggy to pull out, the lid would fall in...just rubbish really (>

So it finally really broke a few days ago. Ordered a new on (sorry to the "You can only order a left kidney and food brigade" )and it arrived today. A total doddle to fit.

And it opens. Smoothly. No wriggling/yanking/rearranging of lid to get it open and closed. It is truly bringing me pleasure.

I nearly thought about attaching a video to show how pleasing it was. But then I realised that was bloody dull and bit mad a bit odd, as not having experienced the hell of the old bin, you would not necessarily appreciate the smoothness of the new bin.

What things have pleased you today? However small or dull they may seem - what has made you happy?

I planted some seeds ready to grow veg. After fleeing an arsehole soon to be ex husband last year and having a horrendous few months, the sun and promise a green shoots has given me a lift..

I managed to spend some time in my garden doing weeding in the sunshine and it made me really appreciate having some outside space. I realise I'm very lucky in that regard.

Later on my eldest DD21 decided to make a cake and wanted me to help. She's not normally here much and has spent most of the last 10 days stuck in her room watching Netflix so it was nice to spend some quality time with her. Oh and the cake was delicious!

I met my doctor in the supermarket. This means she's no longer self-isolating!

I feel better today after feeling ill for almost 5 weeks (may have been CV, maybe not). So nice to feel approaching human again! Did some knitting and had a very weak gin and tonic to celebrate! Printed out tye Saturday Times Jumbo cryptic crossword to do later. I get your bin joy, OP!

Was able to help some rough sleepers in our town who had been given emergency accommodation. The accommodation was empty Hmm but as we had been clearing out our garage we had some garden chairs we no longer need so I was able to pass them on ...and it gave me a genuine excuse to leave the house .

Also did a four and half mile walk, plus on line work out so actually feeling quite fit now.

Tidied the loft (took two days), threw away loads of old greetings cards, sorted through all the Christmas decorations and minimised them. I have the loft of dreams! Smile

First day in my garden after 3 weeks of what I suspect was Covid19. So lovely to be outside. And DH helped with weeding the veg patch ( very rare) and I found a forgotten bag of putting compost.

I ate veg couscous at work today, given to receptionists and porters from a restaurant I think. Something to do with Grenfall. On of the social workers must have mentioned us I believe.

Anyway, it was gorgeous. I have a bowl of it for tomorrow too. Nice and spicy!

Had a totally normal conversation with my dad on the phone about a totally normal diy problem. No mention of illness or death rates or anything, just a totally normal conversation about how to fix stuff. It lasted less than 10 minutes but it was lovely.

I've cleaned the powder drawer of the washing machine, and put some detol machine cleaner through the machine. It was embarrassingly filthy 🤢

haverhill · 04/04/2020 18:50

Went for a lovely walk in the brief period of sun we had and saw a flock of fieldfares (I think), a bluetit and a coaltit.
Also, the eyelash dye I used last night has really worked well Grin!

I won £10 on the virtual grand national, safe in the knowledge no horses were harmed.

The sun shone and my cat had a lovely day basking in the sun.

I used my new handbag for the first time for a thrilling trip to Tesco for essentials (which included a 375g bag of mini eggs and a bottle of wine, which I'm about to get stuck into).

I gained massive good mother points by working out how to set the timer on the (very elderly, has been in the garage for 10 years) breadmaker so ds woke up to freshly baked bread this morning.

Got a new personal best over a mile running, and took 22 seconds per km off the same workout on the training plan I'm following compared to 2 weeks ago.

Cannot attach a bin video. Instead another pleasurable thing...the margarita I made myself. I have now got the recipe not only perfected by also memorised. it took an evening of several, if not too many attempt to perfect the recipe. I still shudder at the pain of the morning after

A lovely walk along the river, loads of people smiled and said hello

Kirschcherry · 04/04/2020 19:50

I sat in the sun for an hour this evening and drank vintage cava while I read my book. Also, DH finished building the fruit cage, holding out hopes for lots of lovely strawberries and raspberries come summer.

Duchessofblandings · 04/04/2020 19:51

We have blossom on our pear tree 😃

Noflora · 04/04/2020 19:56

I saw parent geese with 8 goslings in the lovely sunshine.

TheoriginalLEM · 04/04/2020 20:01

DP took down a metal tool shed and underneath was a mouse nest. I was horrified so we put the base back.

Within minutes the little inhabitant scampered back, sat there washing his face and went back to bed.

My heart

Cherrysoup · 04/04/2020 20:15

@haverhill can I ask which one you used? I was going to get mine done professionally before lockdown.

I saw a pair of jays out the front and there are baby fish 🐟 in the pond! There are also late daffs in bud.

bettertimesarecomingnow · 04/04/2020 20:22

I got to the bottom of my ironing basket

I collected a fab fruit and veg box and got seed potatoes and lettuce seeds from the garden centre collection service.

Kids have been so good these past 2 weeks and I'm so proud of them

BlueGheko · 04/04/2020 20:24

Have just made up my bed, sheets smelling of fresh air - had a good wind here today. Repotted my blooming seedlings into bigger pots and took the oven to pieces and cleaned it. But better than all that I GOT A CLICK AND COLLECT SLOT FINALLY.

peaceanddove · 04/04/2020 20:26

I ordered a couple of the coverless duvets from M&S for our teenagers and I'm irrationally excited about them. God knows how they do it but our teens cannot keep their covers on their duvets for more than two days, or the duvet ends up balled into one corner of the cover.
