Lancaster..what's it like?

I realise I can't go for a while so in the meantime what do other MNetters think of this city? Is it pleasant to the eye, relatively clean, many galleries, museums? Thanks for any info.

We had to remortgage and looked at what our money would get locally. 3 bed in central Lancaster = 19 bed ex B&B in Morecambe.

Lancaster is a nice place. Excellent pubs! Booths is the bomb! Their barbecue meat packs are great in the summer.
There is a Waitrose at the Capitol Centre in Walton-le-Dale but nobody thinks that is better than Booths.
I am not biased on this issue as I am not Lancs or Yorks, but a scouser who is Cumbria-based.

I've not been to Lancaster for many years but recall it being pleasant, if a little quiet. Quiet enough for the weekly local paper to lead with the headline "Cherry Trees in Bloom Again" which took up most of the front page. Further down, a small item about a chip pan fire, safely extinguished, no casualties.

This was obviously in the days when reporters still had to him out and dig up local stories instead of combing social media from their desks.

Biased but love Lancaster. And Morecambe will have its day again.

My memory is obviously awful as I did read the article all I remembered was that some man climbed the steps and did it 😂

Loved Lancaster; went to uni there. Beautiful countryside, nice little cafes and old pubs. It is indeed quiet but has a sense of history and is friendly. My friends back home (SE) thought I was odd wanting to go there for uni but I certainly never regretted it.

Of course they're in Booths. When I can't get there. Things to add to the post lockdown list, dark tunnocks!
