I realise I can't go for a while so in the meantime what do other MNetters think of this city? Is it pleasant to the eye, relatively clean, many galleries, museums? Thanks for any info.

Booths started in Lancashire, Blackpool as a tea emporium then Lytham. Lovely shop.

rainbowww · 02/04/2020 12:32

Carlisle?!!! Noooo.

rainbowww · 02/04/2020 12:33

Shockers · 02/04/2020 12:37

Ahh! Thank you!

FlockofGulls · 02/04/2020 12:43

Waitrose is the Booths of the South

YES! Grin Grin Grin

TedsFederationRep · 02/04/2020 12:43

Thank you for that lovely photo, Rainbowww. I am feeling quite homesick now.

I've got a watercolour of Morecambe Bay and one of the interior of the Abbey to remind me...

FlockofGulls · 02/04/2020 12:46

Had no idea Booths were in Lancashire as well as Yorkshire

Whaaaaaaaa?

Booths is Lancashire, through and through. Bloody White Rose Yorkshiremen.

FlockofGulls · 02/04/2020 12:49

And yes, I agree - Booths far better than Waitrose in all sorts of ways including Seabrooks crisps (so much nicer than southern brands) and that lovely glycerine soap that smells of eau de cologne (can't remember the makers). Every time I'm in Keswick, I stock up. I think it's made in Bra'fud.

And they also carry the original Cartmel sticky toffee pudding. Oh goodness, I miss the north-west.

RandomMess · 02/04/2020 12:52

Dark chocolate Tunnocks Teacakes - you cannot but them down South only manky milk ones 😳

Blakes77 · 02/04/2020 12:56

Sorry Flock. It's just that when I think of Lancashire it's hard to picture it as having nice things Wink

TedsFederationRep · 02/04/2020 12:58

What???? Lancashire is the centre of the universe! Fact.

ProfessorHasturLaVista · 02/04/2020 13:10

We don’t like to talk about our Nice Things in case every bugger decides to come up here to try them Wink

TedsFederationRep · 02/04/2020 13:12

Even so, if they carry on like that, we'll take Todmorden back. They can keep the dog statue though Grin

DH likes Waitrose; our nearest Booths has a rather small car park and we're definitely leaving it for NHS staff at the moment (it's the one right opposite Preston Royal). (But we're managing nicely at the moment on local suppliers meat, veg and cheese boxes.)

Re nice things - if anyone is missing their Atkinson's fix, they do mail order. DH ordered a lot of beans some weeks ago.

Yes- Lancashire is dark and wet folks, and we only eat rabbits and pastry based dishes.

Stay away!! Wink

FlockofGulls · 02/04/2020 13:36

It's just that when I think of Lancashire it's hard to picture it as having nice things

Them's fightin' words!

FlockofGulls · 02/04/2020 13:37

Lancashire is dark and wet folks, and we only eat rabbits and pastry based dishes

Indeed! Stay away. I agree. Terrible place, Lancashire, it's just dark satanic mills

rainbowww · 02/04/2020 13:38

Haha. Don't worry Yorkshire - as you can see I'm already here and ready to fight for the white rose.

Flock seabrooks are Yorkshire crisps 💪🏽

It's blowing a hoolie up here today, another good reason not to venture out.

ErrolTheDragon · 02/04/2020 13:39

What???? Lancashire is the centre of the universe! Fact.

I don't know if the universe has a centre, but we definitely have the official centroid of the U.K. (Morecambe bay) , GB ( Dunsop Bridge) and the island of GB excluding the little' uns (near Whalley)

ErrolTheDragon · 02/04/2020 13:40

Fiddlers Lancashire crisps are vastly nicer than Seabrooks

Shockers · 02/04/2020 13:41

Yes, Dunsop Bridge is Middle Earth!

ErrolTheDragon · 02/04/2020 13:42

Not that I've got owt against Yorkshire - I'm a mongrel as DF was from near Wakefield and DM was from Blackburn.

ErrolTheDragon · 02/04/2020 13:43

Yes, Dunsop Bridge is Middle Earth!

Though some might say that's nearer Hurst Green.

I am loving this thread - even the Yorkshirewomen on it!

And please ssssh, keep quiet about my preference for Seabrooks.
