Hello fellow plane spotters!

So I thought Trump had stopped flights to and from Europe but there still seem to be quite a few?

Second point.... anyone know why BA Airbus 319 GEUPD flew Heathrow to Bournemouth yesterday?

That's great parking, they must have a lot of female pilots Grin

Oh my goodness - how did I not know about this app? It's so fascinating watching all the planes; I'm a little obsessed😆

Elieza · 28/03/2020 13:20

There’s a plane at Glasgow int airport just now which is red! All the planes are usually yellow. What’s that all about? It’s just sitting at the airport, no call sign, BA flight. But red??

playthestation · 28/03/2020 14:10

Red plane has 'squawked' the code 7700 which is basically an emergency. Sometimes medical, sometimes low fuel, which doesn't actually mean low fuel as such but it gives priority landing over other traffic.

It was almost certainly an error as that particular aircraft is in the BA maintenance hanger right now.

pippishortsocks · 28/03/2020 14:11

Red ones are ones declaring an emergency (7700 code) I believe. I suspect it's a mistake - or hope it is.

playthestation · 28/03/2020 14:12

I should add there are a thousand other reasons planes will 7700. Often there are tech problems in the air where it isn't used too, so it's not an accurate guide.

pippishortsocks · 28/03/2020 14:15

There's a Moscow-LA flight over Greenland now, it just shows how far north they go to get the best route. I've had a flight once which went way north and was so clear, we could see loads of icebergs.

Silvercatowner · 28/03/2020 14:43

Lovely flight-radar-obsessed people, do you have subscriptions to this? I'm thinking of doing the annual, just to get rid of the adverts.

pippishortsocks · 28/03/2020 14:44

I've got a silver subscription.

Witchofzog · 28/03/2020 14:52

I saw the Red Arrows on Flight Radar recently. I love Flight Radar Smile

Thanks, I had no idea that’s why the plane was red. Anyone recall what frequency they use to communicate? I’ve got an old cb radio somewhere and may get it out and have a listen to them as they go overhead, if that’s not illegal and if there are any planes flying overhead!!

playthestation · 28/03/2020 16:27

You can usually bring up the frequencies by googling.

SpoonfulofDragon · 28/03/2020 16:33

Lincs and Notts Air Ambulance just above Peterborough at the moment.

SpoonfulofDragon · 28/03/2020 16:34

Also a KLM from Schipol to Atlanta - I thought all flights were banned from Europe to the US?

SpoonfulofDragon · 28/03/2020 16:39

Norwich Air Ambulance is also out now, just taken off from Norwich.

playthestation · 28/03/2020 16:40

Flights are not banned. People are allowed to travel home. Belly cargo is still carried.

newnortherner1 · 28/03/2020 17:44

Pity there have not been repatriation flights quicker given the number of BA planes and Virgin ones that are available.

playthestation · 28/03/2020 17:51

Repat flights from where?

pippishortsocks · 28/03/2020 17:56

There have been repatriation flights from popular tourist destinations, admittedly you might struggle if, like me, you holiday in obscure destinations but the average places have been catered for I believe.

OnlyJudyCanJudgeMe · 28/03/2020 18:04

That’s so cool @Witchofzog !!

SpoonfulofDragon · 28/03/2020 18:23

@Witchofzog The Red Arrows are based at Scampton - so if you look there at around the same time this week you will most likely see them again - that's one of their training flight routes - they go out to the coast to practice display training.

Witchofzog · 28/03/2020 18:31

@onlyjudycanjudgeme isn't it? They flew over my house - I didn't see them sadly but looked on Flight Radar as they were loud!

OnlyJudyCanJudgeMe · 28/03/2020 19:13

I’ve been lucky enough to see them display a few times.
