To have to run so I can eat Sunday roast?

Jellywormy · 15/03/2020 17:40

No doubt posters will link this to other threads and be mean, but posting as really upset.

We are going to family for Sunday roast tonight and my husband has just had a go at me and said it’s unhealthy and worrying that I have to go for a run to allow myself to eat Sunday roast.

Am I being unreasonable? I would just feel so anxious if I ate a big meal and pudding without having offset it somehow.

Feeling vulnerable so please be kind Flowers

Restaurant, especially Wetherspoons, food isn't really comparable to home cooked. Everything in restaurants is super high calorie because it's all cooked in butter and has sugar added to make it tastier. Food cooked at home will have nowhere near that amount of calories.

Jellywormy · 15/03/2020 22:29

Thank you everyone for replying- just wanted to let you know I had the roast and pudding! Small portions of both but I did it!

Appreciate the support and head wobble on here- have to say some posters telling me I was never going to burn the roast off/ run was pointless was mean and nearly made me skip dinner :-(

If randoms on the internet posting their opinions is enough to nearly make you skip a meal, you need to stay far away from it OP.

You clearly have issues and you're mixing with others on here who have issues.

Surely you can see the problem with that?

motherheroic · 15/03/2020 23:00

@Jellywormy Well done!

“ Appreciate the support and head wobble on here- have to say some posters telling me I was never going to burn the roast off/ run was pointless was mean and nearly made me skip dinner :-(”

If the original post wasn’t enough for me to think you have a pretty major issue with food then I’m afraid this line was.

I’m afraid it It’s not normal to think like that OP. But the good thing is that becoming conscious of the issue is the first step towards being able to do something about it.

So you can work from here x

Sherlockia · 15/03/2020 23:20

Glad you had the roast, if possible please talk to someone in real life like a therapist or ed charity, you only have to skim this thread to see how skewed many peoples attitude to food is and it can make things worse to read them, best of luck.

I do understand wanting to maintain a balance as I am currently in the middle of losing a decent amount of weight and would want to keep on track.

However, your husband is not uncaring here by pointing out that if the thought of eating is making you anxious, that is where the problem lies. It doesn't sound as though he is trying to stop you exercising.

Can you get some support with your anxiety? It is good that you are exercising regularly. Not so good is that the thought of a reasonable amount of exercise not being enough to burn off a normal Sunday meal made you so anxious you considered skipping your dinner.

Real balance is living healthily but not being ruled by an imaginary balance sheet of calories in and out. A healthy ongoing level of exercise and a decent diet is enough to absorb the occasional bigger meal, takeaway or whatever.

Double3xposure · 16/03/2020 01:16

No one told you that exercising was pointless. But most people exercise because it’s fun and good for your health. It’s not normal to think of it as a penance for eating a perfectly normal meal. Your husband is right about this.

Please seek help for your issues around food.

ifyoulikepinacolada · 16/03/2020 06:30

OP i’m sorry but I this level of anxiety around food isn’t normal. You can’t diagnose an ED online but all your posts are screamingly indicative of one - you shouldn’t be feeling this anxious about food! Please seek help; B-eat are an amazing resource if you don’t feel able to go to the doctor just yet.

Notredamn · 16/03/2020 09:28

Beijing what a nasty thing to say to someone with an eating disorder to try and make them more anxious. Hideous post.

Please pay no attention to this OP, not everything in restaurants, even Wetherspoons, is cooked in butter with sugar added. That poster was lying.

BeijingBikini · 16/03/2020 10:38

But it's the truth, just because you don't like it doesn't mean I'm lying or horrible. Watch any show about restaurants - they add loads of butter/salt/sugar to make it tasty. That's why Spoons food has >1000 calories for something that would be about 400 if made at home. I'm not being nasty, just factual.

motherheroic · 16/03/2020 12:07

@BeijingBikini How about you stop bringing up calories (a major trigger for someone with a eating disorder) in a thread where someone clearly has an eating disorder. Are you really this dense?

Notredamn · 16/03/2020 12:08

Bollocks.

Notredamn · 16/03/2020 12:08

That was to Beijing.

whiplashy · 16/03/2020 12:47

oh come on OP, you knew what the replies would be when you posted here, you made your little hints about disordered eating and previous posts (which I didn’t search) and respond all wide eyed and hurt when people don’t indulge you. If you truly are concerned about the calories you’re eating you would know very well that a run wouldn’t offset a big meal. I hope you get a handle on this

MinkowskisButterfly · 16/03/2020 12:50

@whiplashy that was such an unnecessary comment, especially to someone who obviously is having disordered thoughts about food. Ffs, think before you type please.

RuffleCrow · 16/03/2020 12:54

I get what you're saying. As we get into middle age the metabolism slows down and every calorie seems to count. However you do seem on the extreme scale

Frankiethree · 16/03/2020 13:11

I managed to lose weight last year and still had a roast every weekend. Nothing unhealthy about the meat and vegetables, just limit the amount of roast potatoes and don’t have the gravy. Don’t need to pile your plate up.

BunnytheBee · 16/03/2020 16:54

don’t have the gravy

What?!
