5 years since Terry Pratchett died.

The ripples still carry on so he's not forgotten yet. Today I shall wear lilac.

I met Terry Pratchett at a book signing some years ago. he was lovely, and tiny.

Sad

I still haven’t read (and possibly never will) the last witches books. I can’t bear to lose Granny Weatherwax too.

ErrolTheDragon · 12/03/2020 09:14

RIP Terry.

“ “No one is finally dead until the ripples they cause in the world die away, until the clock wound up winds down, until the wine she made has finished its ferment, until the crop they planted is harvested.”, until the books they wrote are no longer read...

It’s been 5 years???? Wow. Still keep re-reading everything. I just love his humour.

A man is not dead until his name is no longer spoken

RIP Sir Terry
I went to one of the first Discworld conventions and spent an evening drinking in a barn with him. Amazing, funny, intelligent and a true gentleman.
They held an auction to raise money for the Orangutan Foundation and one of the lots was to be named in an upcoming book. The winner was John Lawn.
BTW I was a total fan girl all weekend Grin

Long live Sir Terry!Wine

7Penguins - I thought I was the only one. I just re-read the Tiffany series but stopped short ... again.

GNU STP. Perfectly balanced talent, rage and compassion. And such a lot of it!

DisgraceToTheYChromosome · 12/03/2020 09:37

It was also the day I was to say goodbye to a man I loved dearly, so after drying my tears I rewrote his eulogy to include some Discworld.

Despite my late DB being a huge fan, I've never read Terry Pratchett book!!Shock
Please tell me where to start, I feel on the brink of entering a wonderous world.....

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 12/03/2020 11:50

The Colour of Magic is the first book. Start there.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 12/03/2020 11:51

Or Soul Music. It's later, but accessible and the characters more developed.

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 12/03/2020 11:52

We have a signed copy somewhere. DH went to a talk TP gave.

PhilODox · 12/03/2020 11:53

Wasn't it Sir Terry that joked "If you can find an unsigned copy it's worth a fortune"? Grin

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 12/03/2020 11:55

Soul Music is probably my least favourite. Guards, Guards! is another later but excellent book. Or Weird Sisters, which introduces the witches.

Spudlet · 12/03/2020 11:57

5 years! Blimey. It’s flown. Sad

Very excellent. DragonGrin

BarkandCheese · 12/03/2020 12:05

Five years, still sad. Didn’t there used to be a lilac emoji on here for TP or am I imagining it? [lilac] did that work?

BarkandCheese · 12/03/2020 12:05

Clearly not.

RIP Sir Terry. We saw him in a bookshop in NZ once, but (typical Kiwis), didn't like to disturb him.

Every time I read a book of his now (and I often do), I tear up a little at the end, thinking we'll never again argue whose turn it is to give, and whose to receive, the latest Terry Pratchett for Christmas.

My relationship was begun to the words of Sir Terry as DH used to read them aloud to me.

Wearing the lilac.
