DD new bf is ignorant

Notdamama · 11/03/2020 17:21

lighthearted
So, our DD 13, has a BF 14. I’ve just welcomed him into our home, asked if he was well - YEAH, then asked if he’d had a good day - YEAH! I feel utterly deflated. Run up to DP who works from home. He said BF was perfectly pleasant and polite to him. CF!!!!

Perhaps he’s shy - he’s a 14 year old child.

KatherineJaneway · 11/03/2020 17:23

What else did you expect? He replied to both your questions politely, he might have felt a bit intimidated but warmed up by the time he met your dp

ItchySeveredFoot · 11/03/2020 17:24

He's probably shy and a bit awkward. I often struggled with friends parents.

ch3rrycola · 11/03/2020 17:26

Poor kid leave him alone

WorraLiberty · 11/03/2020 17:28

Christ, he's an embarrassed kid.

Leave him be.

RubbishSwimmer · 11/03/2020 17:29

You say lighthearted, but this is really harsh.

How are you equating a positive response to your questions as ignorant??

And who is being a CF?

AudacityOfHope · 11/03/2020 17:30

You're an ancient middle aged lady to him, who asks him the same questions his own mum asks every day!

quicknamechange80 · 11/03/2020 17:31

Oh op, my dds boyfriend took nearly two years to even be able to have a conversation with me. He was so shy and embarrassed.
Now he talks more than my toddler when he's staying 😂
Give the boy a chance.

mencken · 11/03/2020 17:31

anyone else thinking 'Yes Mrs Paterson' 'No Mrs Paterson'.

You've got Kevin the teenagers friend there!

Voxx · 11/03/2020 17:32

That’s not what ignorant means. Confused

JuanSheetIsPlenty · 11/03/2020 17:33

I feel utterly deflated.

Confused have you never met a teenager before?

You asked two closed ended questions. What did you expect?

AmputatedSoul · 11/03/2020 17:34

That's harsh OP.

I wonder how much chit chat your DD gives his parents.
It's daunting at that age give the lad a break!

Wavescrashingonthebeach · 11/03/2020 17:34

He probably just said 'yeah' and 'yeah' to them too- they probably did see that as friendly 😂

itsallthedramaMickiloveit · 11/03/2020 17:35

Bloody hell he's 14!!
He answered you.

Why are you so hung up on him? They probably won't be together long. You won't be spending the next 20 Christmas' with him.

Irial · 11/03/2020 17:38

Ignorant? That's really harsh

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 11/03/2020 17:40

Wow just wow. You do realise it’s a 14 yr old boy not a 30yr old she’s about to marry?!

iklboo · 11/03/2020 17:42

Poor lad. I hope DS isn't the subject of a MN post one day. He's quite shy until he gets to know someone.

Jaxhog · 11/03/2020 17:42

That's more than I get from my 14year old nephew! And I've known him all his life.

AmICrazyorWhat2 · 11/03/2020 17:43

DD's BF (15) was like this the first time we met him, hardly spoke at all. I think he was terrified! I just chatted away and after coming over a couple of times, he opened up. Now he talks a lot. Grin

Lampan · 11/03/2020 17:46

Agree with @Voxx
I don’t know how you have worked out that he’s ignorant if you haven’t even had a conversation with him

Hoppinggreen · 11/03/2020 17:50

I had known DDs last boyfriend since he was 6 (they were 14 when they became a thing) and I struggled to get much communication from him, it’s not personal
She has a few Male friends now (they are all 15) but the boyfriend has bitten the dust - some are happy to chat but others just grunt at me
He’s not ignorant though, but you sounds like you might be OP

GiveHerHellFromUs · 11/03/2020 17:55

Your post isn't lighthearted and the kid isn't ignorant HTH.

NoMorePoliticsPlease · 11/03/2020 17:57

@Voxx

In the midlands ignorant means ill mannered or rude

NoMorePoliticsPlease · 11/03/2020 17:58

@Lampan
ditto above

GiveHerHellFromUs · 11/03/2020 17:59

@NoMorePoliticsPlease In the midlands ignorant means the same as it means everywhere else in the country
