Post some general boring, everyday, normal shit going on on your life/home. Amusing stories welcome to.

Only rule = no mention of CV, there is a whole topic for that.

I'll start. I used a different washing powder. Pro - it smells nice and must be same one as someone I'm friendly with as reminds me of them! Con - it's made my nose all allergenic. Back to the supermarket own brand one for me.

I've been up since 6 and all I can think about is going back to bed. We had a nice day yesterday so I washed the bedding and got it hung outside so it smells so nice right now, I might just go cocoon myself once the DC head to school.

springydaff · 20/03/2020 08:03

Woke up early, cleaned the kitchen - I can hear the dishwasher chuntering away downstairs. I'm back in bed, my sleeve is wet from washing up the pots. The sun just came out and the birds are chirruping and I'm feeling a bit calmer.

Nuttyaboutnutella · 20/03/2020 10:02

Kids woke early (5am and 6am!!)
Had cuddles in bed with the eldest until 7. I put ironing away and another load of washing on.
DP put the bread maker on.
Gave the kids breakfast then got everyone washed and dressed. I then had breakfast and cleared up.
Played referee between the kids (3 and 9m) over various things 😂
Taken them for a drive to get to sleep as eldest no longer naps in bed.
Have half hour in the garden shortly, school run, then free play while I sort bits out.
Frozen pizza for us and fish fingers for them for tea then bath, bed, relax!

I have my elder DS (14) here doing some work from school with his pet bird, been washing the floor with some linen scented floor wash, doing some laundry and having a coffee, it is quite nice having him here for company and his school stuff is online so he can get on with that independently.

Looks like a nice sunny day out, going to pick up my younger one later his last day of school Shock

LefttoherownDevizes · 20/03/2020 11:40

The baguettes DS11 and I made yesterday were delicious, so am going on a walk later with him to see if we can find any flour to make some more. Friend said our local market is open and has loads of fruit and veg (including porcini mushrooms from Poland) so looking forward to visiting once our 14 days are up.

Heading to the woods for a walk with the well ones after lunch and to drop food bank supplies off outside the Vicar's house now that Church is shut.

I can't believe I have to think about what to do for lunch again, seems like we only ate breakfast 5 minutes ago. Maybe some baking this afternoon, DS14 makes a mean creme egg brownie

userxx · 20/03/2020 13:08

@springydaff I love cleaning the kitchen early in the morning. Set's me up for the day, i did nothice this morning that the window cleaner has done a shocking job!!

PenguinsOnParade · 20/03/2020 14:32

I went back to bed and enjoyed the peace and the nice crisp sheets. Thankfully even when my kids are off school they're great at looking after themselves so it won't be my last lie in at least. I better have one on Sunday too as I don't know if I'll get anything else now.

And I promise this will be my only comment on food today. Just mixed up my own chipotle mayo. I was searching the cupboard for my sriracha, I love cooking food from all round the world so my condiments have a full cupboard to themselves (on top of my spice rack and spice drawer), jars and bottles full of almost anything you can think of. Except sriracha, I must have left it at my parents' house the last time I was cooking there. Sad But I did find a jar of chipotle paste I'd forgotten about so mixed up some into mayo with an extra drop of Tabasco and a pinch of Cajun seasoning to just add that extra little something and it's good. Just ate lashings of it in a ham, cheese and lettuce wrap. Grin Need to use up the lettuce so might go back for another soon.

Our grandchild to be’s pram arrived today and his mum and dad, who live with us, will be putting the mural up in the nursery.

They’re inspirational, looking to the future with joy.

Wilding · 20/03/2020 21:52

Feeling impressed with myself today - managed to go for a 4k run, clean the house, do some work and also had a midwife appt and listened to the baby's heart which was nice.

DH made aubergine parmigiana for dinner and then we watched Montalbano. I might suggest having Italian evening every week after this...

VerbenaGirl · 20/03/2020 21:58

My DD tried to dye her (ginger) hair blue and it’s gone brown (with a slight blue sheen if she stands in the light).

springydaff · 20/03/2020 22:15

I'm thinking of knocking through into the back room myself.

How hard can it be?

It's dark in the back room (NE facing) and I long for the sunshine to pour through.

I'd also get a lot more done. I hunker down in the sunny, warm front room. But an age ago, in a fung shui silliness purge, I made the front room entirely about chilling.

I'm doing too much chilling in the sunshine.

springydaff · 20/03/2020 22:17

I'm also thinking of knocking down the kitchen wall so it's all one open space.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 20/03/2020 22:36

For heaven's sake check none of these walls is loadbearing first! A friend of mine did something like that, and a whole lot of upstairs tried to join him in his living-room. He had to get an emergency builder to fit a steel joist for him, in a hurry.

Mind you, his routine was a bit weird sometimes, so occasional crises were what we expected to hear about from him.

Eckhart · 20/03/2020 22:48

I walked past a pub earlier whilst out with the dog. I had a chat with a bloke who I actually crossed over to talk to - because he had a small, plumed chicken sitting on his shoulder. He also had a woman draped over him, but I could only really see her back. I was talking to him about the chicken - apparently it's completely tame and follows him everywhere - when she suddenly called out 'Game's over, so fuck off!!', as if we were in competition for the bloke. I told him I'd leave him to it as it seemed he had a lot on his plate, and he nodded. As I walked away, he said gently 'I don't know this woman.'

I hope he and his chicken are ok.

As if things weren't surreal enough at the moment.

springydaff · 21/03/2020 00:45

I hadn't thought of that questions! Wink

Zaphodsotherhead · 21/03/2020 08:35

I am sitting up in bed looking out onto the green opposite my house. The willow tree there is just coming into leaf and its spidery fingers are twitching about in the wind and catching the sun.

The dog is asleep at my feet and we'll go for a run soon. I'm really fed up with running in the wind, wish it would hurry up and die down so I can get out in just a T shirt (trousers too, obviously, nobody needs to watch my buttocks fleeing away down the lanes).

CruCru · 21/03/2020 09:34

I saw a red squirrel in the garden today (we’re in the IoW). I hope it comes back so I can take a picture.

springydaff · 21/03/2020 10:35

Completely disorientated about what day it is - very surprised and delighted to hear Saturday morning live on R4 when I was expecting women's hour.

I've never much liked Sir Bob but I warmed to him a bit this morning.

Wauden · 21/03/2020 11:04

I might make naan bread, which should be easy.

I will cook as a stress release.

spiderlight · 21/03/2020 17:46

We've actually, weirdly, had a lovely day. Our dog, who pulled a muscle in his back and has been wonky and miserable for a week, has suddenly gone all sprightly again and loved his walk (in a lovely isolated field in the middle of nowhere), and then when we came home, DS decided it was a perfect day for kite-flying so we've been out on the playing field behind the house and had loads of fun. He let go of the kite at one point and it went over the roofs of the houses, but fortunately the string caught on someone's roof and it crash-landed in the street so we were able to dash out to the front and retrieve it.

springydaff · 21/03/2020 17:54

I saw a young woman today with 6 children, ranging from baby to about 12. They were quite a team.

I asked her, "are they all yours?". She proudly said yes. Hats off to her.

Katinski · 21/03/2020 18:05

In Morrisons this morning. Boy, about 4, bright ginger hair, walking by his mum, suddenly breaks away and chases after a man, also with ginger hair."Daddy!"and pulls his jumper. Man turns round.Boy looks at him, sadly, "you're not my daddy, are you!"
Confused
ahhhh...

SomethingOnce · 21/03/2020 18:52

Have you got a good go-to recipe? Really fancy a fresh naan...

Wilding · 21/03/2020 19:05

Finally mowed the lawn this afternoon, garden looks heaps better! I'm currently trying to fight the urge to make chocolate cornflake cakes, really fancy some...

SomethingOnce · 21/03/2020 19:11

Cornflake cakes! Now you’re talking!

What I wouldn’t give for a box of cornflakes...
