I have no grandparents left, my last died when I was 27. Yet I know someone who is almost 30 and has all of her grandparents still living. Can't help but feel a little jealous.

TheDogsMother · 09/03/2020 15:52

I was 50 so very lucky to have had her in my life for so long.

StuckBetweenDarknessAndLight · 09/03/2020 15:53

6 months.
I feel I have missed out a lot by never knowing my grandparents.

Theworldisfullofgs · 09/03/2020 15:56

Minus 6.

The first one when I was minus 25.

They were all a reasonable age at death for the time.

(I'm 49 btw)

Stripeyfrog · 09/03/2020 15:56

I'm jealous of anyone who reaches adulthood with their grandparents, my paternal gps died before I was born, and my maternal gps died when I was a toddler so i have no recollection of any of them. My parents died when I was 33 and 41.

vegansprinkle · 09/03/2020 15:58
  1. He was 70. He was the oldest of my grandparents as well, the other three died between 47-65.

Thankfully my parents are faring better (I'm 41)

Sunshinelollipops1 · 09/03/2020 15:59
  1. Both parents lost one parent very young (in their early 20s). Lost the other 2 in year I was 10. One was 80, but other was only 62
amusedbush · 09/03/2020 16:24

I’m 29. My paternal grandad died 1998, aged 64. My maternal grandad died two years ago, he was 88.

I still have both grannies. Paternal one is 82 and has dementia. My maternal granny is 86 and the light of my life, I’m dreading her dying Sad

Lottiebugz22 · 09/03/2020 16:25

28 only in September. I'm so happy she met my daughter.

Gruffalosandbuffalos · 09/03/2020 16:26

My MIL’s grandma is still alive and so she is 58 and still has a living grandparent.

goose1964 · 09/03/2020 17:25

I was 47, and she lived long enough to see her first two greatgreatgrandsons

BuntyCollocks · 09/03/2020 17:29

My last living grandparent is still alive. I’m nearly 37

Itstheprinciple · 09/03/2020 17:31

My DD was born with 5 living great grandparents and her last one died when she was 11.

Dinosauratemydaffodils · 09/03/2020 17:34
  1. She died on friday.

I was 17 when I lost my last Great Grandparent. The women on both sides of my family tend to make old bones (virtually all made at least 90). My grandmothers made it to 95 and 98 respectively. Both were still living at home alone at the time of their deaths.

Oliversmumsarmy · 09/03/2020 17:34

Nearly 60 and still have a gm.

I know both my parents are still alive (NC for some time)

Gm is past 100.

Female members of her family all live to past 100

itisaverywindyday · 09/03/2020 17:49

I am 42 and very very lucky to have 3 grandparents who are well and living. When my DS was born 12 years ago he had the pleasure of meeting my great grandad, his great great grandad!

Poetryinaction · 09/03/2020 18:01

One died before I was born.
One died when I was 7.
One died when I was 21.
One still living. She is 97.

JellyNo15 · 09/03/2020 18:19

31 when my paternal DGM died. 16 when both my DGF's died and 8 when my maternal DGM died.

iamclaireandfleabag · 09/03/2020 18:22

Two died before I was born and one when I was 6. have very fond memories of my grandmother who taught me a lot. Her wartime stories on managing on rations and eking meals out of nothing have stood me well in hard times. I also inherited her tendency for glamour/looking your best no matter what. Oh and I can tie a mean headscarf over victory rolls!

BillywigSting · 09/03/2020 18:26

I'm 29, 30 this year and have one left, but very likely not for long as she is most definitely on borrowed time. I don't expect her to live another ten years.

I lost one when I was five, one when I was 13 and one last year. It was equally shit each time, though the last one probably had the edge as I had to leave ds and dp behind, and only had my df with me, and that grandparent was his last remaining parent, and the funeral was at short notice in a different country.

When the last one goes the shit is well and truly going to hit the fan.

  1. One died a long time before I was born (DM was only 16 herself), the rest within a few years of each other.

However, my great-grandmother kept going until I was 24/25, at the ripe old age of 104!!

UncleHerbie · 09/03/2020 18:34

My friend is 53 and her 98 yo Gran died in January. There's a wonderful pic taken last year of my friend, her daughter and granddaughter, her mum and gran

My last Gran died when I was 39, my dad was 71, his sister 73

SweetNorthernRose · 09/03/2020 18:41

I'm 40 and both my grandmas are still alive. One in her 90s and bed ridden, and one is 84 and fit as a fiddle (was married and had children young). My grandads passed away when I was 16 and 19.

SmokeAndBone · 09/03/2020 18:43

I was 52 when I lost my Nan - her Mum (my Great Nan) didn't die till I was 13.
My other Nan died when I was 34, my Grandad when I was at Uni so in my early 20s.

I know I'm so, so lucky. Only regret is that my own grand-children won't have that long with me as I had children late.

DementedO1 · 09/03/2020 18:43

I was 7, I thought this was pretty normal until, as an adult, my friends were losing grandparents and it dawned on me that mine all died much too young. The last one to die was also the only one alive in my lifetime.
