DS has red raw nappy rash

My poor 10mo DS has a red raw bottom. Sudocrem isn't even covering it because the skin is so raw.

What can I do to help him? It looks so awfully sore. This morning I changed him and let some air get to his bottom as well as putting a bit of talcum powder on.

Feel so sorry for him Sad

Yellow metanium always works here. Put on a thin layer at every change until it heals. If you get a build up of it, cleaning it off with olive oil before bathtime works well. Just be aware that it stains!

Pineappletree33 · 23/02/2020 08:48

Metanium works the best for us. Use a thin layer though.

Ukholidaysaregreat · 23/02/2020 08:49

Bepanthen is good. Metanium is good. Try leaving the nappy off for a bit.

After wiping, pat him dry with cotton wool, tissues or the new clean nappy before you put any cream on. This made a big difference with my DS.

puds11 · 23/02/2020 08:51

Leave the nappy off

twelveminutespast · 23/02/2020 08:51

Is Sudocrem no good for this? It's all I've got and I genuinely don't have any money for anything new until I get paid on Tuesdsy Sad arghhh

My DD had what I thought was horrible nappy rash but it turned out to be thrush and needed cream from the doctor. Might be worth a check if it's not clearing up.

Doyoumind · 23/02/2020 08:52

Sudocrem is useless. I agree metanium and bepanthen are both much better. I prefer bepanthen as it's gentler.

MartyrGuacamole · 23/02/2020 08:53

If it's really red raw you might need a gp visit. My dd got thrush and it presented as red raw rash. She needed an anti fungal cream to clear it up.

YouJustDoYou · 23/02/2020 08:53

Metanium was our life saver.

MartyrGuacamole · 23/02/2020 08:54

X post with Doyoumind!

Queenofheartsnomore · 23/02/2020 08:55

Discover doesn't cover it well. Metanium is fantastic and you only need a small amount as it spreads really well.

lingo · 23/02/2020 08:55

If you've nothing other than Sudocrem just let him spend as much time nappy-free today as possible.

Wynston · 23/02/2020 08:56

Used sudocrem all the time for mine.
Id try and leave them nappy free for as long as possible then cream them up.
Like previous poster my little one had thrush once so needed some other cream.
Pharmacist may be able to advise you?.

Queenofheartsnomore · 23/02/2020 08:56

Ha auto correct sudocrem

ChewChewIsMySpiritAnimal · 23/02/2020 08:57

Leave the nappy off as much as possible, don't use any bubble bath if you give him a bath. You might find by later with plenty of time nappy free it might look a lot better by later on.

Hercwasonaroll · 23/02/2020 08:59

Yellow metanium

Don't put talc on it.

As much nappy free time as possible. Lie him on a towel.

Use a flannel and water instead of baby wipes.

AnneShirleysNewDress · 23/02/2020 09:01

Take him to a pharmacy. They can prescribe something for him.

Lekky12 · 23/02/2020 09:02

I used sudocrem twice, both times on my 1st. Got a tiny taster pot as part of a baby pack and I've just thrown it out! Metanium is the way forward. It gets used on my 2nd who is now 3 when he gets a sore spot on his scrotum! It's such good stuff.

hazeyjane · 23/02/2020 09:03

Wash with warm water
Pat dry
Air
Use Conotrane (can get on prescription or over the counter)

SellFridges · 23/02/2020 09:04

Mine had bad nappy rash a few times and it always turned out to be thrush. GP prescribed an anti fungal and could see the difference within hours.

TossACoinToYourWitcher · 23/02/2020 09:06

Metanium is only about £3. However you maybe able to get it for free from your pharmacy if it's covered by the Minor Ailments Scheme. You would need to ask them.

But leaving the nappy off will make a massive difference. Just put loads of towels on the floor in one room and let him have a few hours without it.

Mumof1andacat · 23/02/2020 09:06

If hes that red he might need a mild steroid cream. See if u can get a ooh gp appointment or go to the walk in center. We used drapolene cream. Didnt get on with metanium.

Colinthedog · 23/02/2020 09:07

Definitely yellow metanium, it’s magic! If you can find a pharmacy that’s open today they might prescribe it for free under the minor ailments service. You’ll need to take DS with you.
