Bob Dylan. My dad is obsessed, saw him lots in the early days. He, and I will be gutted when he dies.

Paul Wellor, same reason but for my partner

MeatLoaf. Love him, his music. I’ll be so sad when he dies..

I'm not saying it won't be better just that it will be different. I'm 65, that's a long time only knowing one queen. I do agree it makes a difference how old you are, though, in my 20s I would have given it little thought. Age probably also makes a difference to how you feel about, for example, David Bowie as it relates to a time in one's youth and feelings about mortality.

StinkyWizleteets · 22/02/2020 15:50

The queen. Not because I care or like her but I cannot be arsed with the wailing and gnashing of teeth and endless weeks of tv about her bloody life... and please no Elton John songs for her

SalmonOfKnowledge · 22/02/2020 17:46

i felt like that when the Queen Mother died. SHe was a very self-important woman. (I think)
I know The Crown portrayed her sympathetically but before that, little facts that came out about her painted a picture of a ruthless controlling woman.
The was so much POMP and ceremony for her funeral and it went on for days, and I remember feeling shocked when I discovered that she had planned her own funeral!

The Queen herself wouldn't want so much fuss.

AlexandraPeppernose · 22/02/2020 18:13

Dick van Duke and Julie Andrews.

eggandonion · 22/02/2020 19:31

Isn't there a protocol for state funerals, I don't know how much input the family has.

CaptainMyCaptain · 22/02/2020 19:48

I think you are right eggsandonions I doubt if the Queen has much say in it.

OutOntheTilez · 22/02/2020 20:11

I think I'd have to add Tom Hanks and Brad Pitt. They've both been in so many movies and have been around for so long; I kind of grew up with them.

PointlessAddict · 22/02/2020 20:18

But I don’t think there will be any wider consequences of the Queen dying, @CaptainMyCaptain. This is a stable monarchy and the next sovereign, who’s probably better known in any ways than his mother, will take over. Heads of state are replaced all the time. Elizabeth has reigned a long time, I often marvel about how she’s been the only head of state me, my kids, and my parents have ever really known but she’s an outlier, other countries have heads of state change more frequently without any “wider consequences”.

As for David Attenborough as many posters have mentioned what would be the wider consequences there, aside from no Blue Planet 3? 🤷🏼‍♀️

shivermetimbers77 · 22/02/2020 20:18

Julie Andrews

PinkSqidgyPig · 22/02/2020 20:31

Jarvis Cocker.

In recent years a couple of famous people of my age have died. I found this really unnerving. Not just because of my own mortality, but because it could be one of my long standing friends. I'm 55

PinkSqidgyPig · 22/02/2020 20:39

I think Stephen Fry too. I met him once, he was so lovely.
Even before that I adored him.

tiqtok · 22/02/2020 22:05

pretty sure David Attenborough will have the majority vote (and i agree completely!), not fussed about the Queen or any of her lot.
Brian Blessed is my other, I had a chance to meet him at a book signing and couldnt go which i regret massively,.

lostinleaves · 22/02/2020 22:33

What @PinkSqidgyPig said - Stephen Fry is lovely, very much so.

and anybody who says otherwise is wrong

MrsClatterbuck · 23/02/2020 11:42

The Queen

MarieIVanArkleStinks · 23/02/2020 12:23

Agree: Stephen Fry's an interesting character: highly intelligent but fragile. His first film 'Bright Young Things' was a brilliant adaptation of Evelyn Waugh's 'Vile Bodies': I think he's actually incredibly talented. He has his critics, but I find him likeable.

As a republican I can't share the sentiment about the Windsors at all. It's also undeniable that the current Head of State is quite a remote character and few people know anything about her. It seems to be the sense of 'history' and continuity people say they will miss as opposed to the woman herself. I find that interesting.

Quite an unsung hero as far as British actors are concerned is Diana Rigg. She's underrated and quite brilliant, and when seen interviewed is such a warm, ebullient character.

Still in mourning for Rik (seems odd to be affected by the death of someone I didn't know. Few have affected me like his). I was also quite sad about Nicholas Parsons who I loved on 'Just a Minute': felt like the end of an era. Ditto Geoffrey Hayes from Rainbow :(

MrFumble · 23/02/2020 12:25

Attenborough

LolaDarkdestroyer · 23/02/2020 16:57

Trevor Macdonald

lostinleaves · 23/02/2020 16:59

I spent a day with Stephen Fry earlier this year, and yes, lovely and intelligent too.

Teacup34 · 23/02/2020 17:11

David Jason, me and DH love only fools it will be hard to watch when he's gone!

TinkerbellsNemesis · 23/02/2020 20:25

NC'd

Odd way round to put it – I'd rather say “Which famous people do you wish would live for ever?”

Connie Francis. I'm the wrong generation to be a fan of hers really, but she's a heroine of mine. Partly because I too am crazy about singing, and partly because she's a survivor.

MisterT373 · 24/02/2020 16:38

William Shatner.

winewolfhowls · 24/02/2020 21:39

Oh yes, definitely Brian Blessed.

I thought shatner was a bad un?

NecklessMumster · 24/02/2020 21:43

I don't think we should get upset when people we don't know die but I am secretly worrying about Alan Bennett dying

Taddda · 25/02/2020 08:22

It knocks me a bit when the younger famous faces die- also the 'unexpected' It does make you question your own mortality, in a 'it really can happen to anyone at anytime for any reason'.

(Also just turned 40, having a massive life re-evaluation atm....also keep reading a copy of 'Desiderata' that's hanging in my kitchen like a 'to do list'!!)

Taddda · 25/02/2020 08:29

Also have to stop using the word 'also' Wink...
